Morning Buzz: March 3, 2008

This morning the United States launched an airstrike on the Somali town of Dobley to go after a group of terrorist suspects. Three missiles hit the town, destroying a home and seriously injuring eight people. Last year the United States shelled other suspected al Qaeda targets in Somalia.

Both Venezuela and Ecuador ordered troops to their borders with Colombia today, raising the stakes that the countries might go to war after Colombia killed a top rebel leader on Ecuadoran soil. President Hugo Chávez said Venezuela would respond militarily if Colombia violated its border. He also closed Venezuela's embassy in Colombia, which has long complained that rebels have been allowed to take refuge just across the borders in Ecuador and Venezuela. Hillary Clinton sharpened her attacks on Barack Obama as the two candidates campaigned one more day before tomorrow's primaries in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Clinton needs to win Ohio and Texas to boost her bid for the presidency and take the steam out of Obama's momentum. Obama has won the past 11 primaries and caucuses. Recent polls show Clinton with a narrow lead in Ohio and the candidates in a dead heat in Texas, where Clinton once held a formidable lead.
