U.S. military leaders say they may request suspending the drawdown of U.S. troops from Iraq. At a speech in Baghdad yesterday, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said that he and Gen. David Petraeus are concerned that reducing troop levels could undermine recent security gains.

Barack Obama had a remarkable weekend, winning three states on Saturday and the Maine Democratic caucuses on Sunday. Now he and Hillary Clinton are shifting their focus to the mid-Atlantic, where Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia will hold primaries Tuesday. Obama attracted an audience of 18,000 at a campaign stop in Roanoke, Va., on Sunday.

Leaders for the Writers Guild of America have accepted the terms of a three-year contract with TV studios and are asking WGA members to approve the offer during meetings tomorrow. Industry officials say that some strike-delayed shows could begin airing new episodes as early as mid-March if the contract is approved.
