Morning Buzz: Jan. 14, 2008

As he continues his tour of the Middle East, President Bush stopped in Saudi Arabia today to discuss Iran, Mideast peace, and democracy. Today was the first time the president had visited the kingdom, an ally of the United States, and he took the opportunity to announce to Congress plans to sell $20 billion in weapons to the Saudis. The announcement was timed to coincide with Bush's arrival in Saudi Arabia.

An explosion shook Kabul, Afghanistan, this morning when a blast went off in or outside the Serena Hotel, a luxury hotel frequented by foreigners.

Now that the presidential candidates and their campaigns have left New Hampshire for other primary states, the state is finding itself bombarded with something else—snow. In southern New Hampshire and areas west and north of Boston, 14 inches of snow are possible. Hundreds of public and private schools have been closed in expectation of the heavy snowstorm throughout New England. This comes after December was the snowiest month on record in some parts of the region.
