Police beat Pakistani protesters this morning, including those angered by the ongoing political crisis and supporters of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, as they demonstrated near Pakistan's parliament.
Doctors in India are touting a successful surgery for a girl who was born with four arms and four legs. Two-year-old Lakshmi, who has been revered by some in her village as a reincarnation of a Hindu goddess, was born with a "parasitic" twin attached to her. When the twin stopped developing in the womb, Lakshmi absorbed its limbs and kidneys. In a 24-hour marathon surgery, doctors removed the extra body parts.
For the first time in the Bush administration, Congress came one step closer yesterday to overriding a presidential veto by voting 361 to 54 for a popular water projects bill that the president said was too costly. The Senate is expected to follow suit.
