Pervez Musharraf was sworn in today as Pakistan's president but gave no indication when emergency rule would end in the country. Musharraf gave up his position as commander of the military yesterday, which was a long-delayed promise he had made to the people. He will hold the position of civilian president for the next five years.

Striking Broadway stagehands and theater producers came to a tentative agreement last night meaning one thing—the shows will go on. Performances will resume today after being on hiatus for 19 days because of the strike.

A new study is raising concerns over CT scans. These "super X-rays" are said to raise the risk of cancer so much that in a few decades 2 percent of all cancers in the United States might be caused by them.  While more research needs to be done, some medical professionals believe that curbing the use of these scans in children, who are more susceptible to radiation, would be a good start to decreasing this risk.
