The Nobel Foundation has awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize to Al Gore and the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In an online announcement posted this morning, the committee praised the former vice president and the members of the panel for "their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change."

Former 2008 Republican presidential candidate Tommy Thompson is expected to endorse Rudy Giuliani for the Republican nomination today. The official announcement is planned for later this afternoon.

Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a stern warning today to U.S. officials regarding American plans to build an antimissile defense system in eastern Europe. If the United States ignores Russian objections, Putin said, it will risk losing "the opportunity for fixing some particular arrangements" between the two countries.
