President Bush told Americans last night from the Oval Office that some troops will be coming home by Christmas and even more will be home by July, citing progress in Iraq. But he also said Americans should expect a U.S. presence in Iraq for years to come, probably well into the next presidency.


Sorry, Canada, but another country has beaten your record of having the world's tallest free-standing structure on its soil. The Burj Dubai, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is now the world's tallest free-standing structure, dethroning the CN Tower in Toronto (1,815 feet). The Burj Dubai stands at 1,822 feet and is climbing higher. The final height of the building has remained a secret, but it is to be completed by the end of 2008.

The trial of polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs began yesterday with testimony from the teenage bride pressured by Jeffs at age 14 to marry her 19-year-old cousin. Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is being tried on two felony counts of rape by accomplice for pressuring the underage girl to marry to preserve her salvation.
