Suspected al Qaeda terrorists launched another attack on the revered Askariya Shiite shrine in Samarra, destroying two minarets. The original attack in 2006, which brought down the golden dome, unleashed a wave of retaliatory violence.

New York City will begin using more biofuels to heat its buildings in 2008 under a plan by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The scientist who led the effort to clone Dolly the sheep in 1996 is now suggesting that viable stem cells could be created by injecting human DNA into animal cells.
