Goodbye and Good Riddance to John Edwards, Adulterer

I always suspected he was sleeze
I could never get pass the idea that he was sleezy. The day he and his wife announced her cancer was back I knew something bigger was wrong. He was not doting on her. It was as if they were announcing a business transaction. His reaction should have been devastation but instead he "reassured" his supporters that he would continue his quest for the white house. It just seemed off. Sort of selfish.
He is a sleezeball - no different from Bill Clinton. He is full of himself. Good riddance!
A Shame...The Poor Lost a Champion
I tend to agree that Edwards dug his own grave, but I will mourn the loss of his much needed message--helping the poor among us. It is unfortunate that the many innocent and worthy targets of the Edwards appeal will lose their visibility and will leave the national consciousness all because their messenger strayed and ruined his own credibility.
What a shame that it all ended this way! He moved me along with millions of others more fortunate with tragic stories of the nation's working poor. Now they have been victimized again because their messenger not only did the misdeed, but lied about it repeatedly and drowned his own worthy message along the way.
Final thought--Why is it that the most effective of messengers are often unworthy of carrying their much needed message?

I would like to see him ousted from politics all together.
He does not reflect the majority of values in this country. This is a time when the world watches our country's actions and we are being judged by others. Edwards does not deserve a spot among those dedicated government servants of the people where values and righteousness have always been important.
Money
He lied, and I want my campaign contribution refunded - where do I go to get it back?
Hannity?
Such a great article, but then Mashek throws in this senseless comment about Sean Hannity, which takes away from the entire article. I guess Mashek feels guilty about slamming a Democrat, so he has to throw in a sniper punch to Hannity and the GOP. Yeah, Hannity can be a blow-hard, but what does that have to do with the price of eggs in China?
Very "high-schoolish".
Article started out as an "A", the way it ended, I'd give it a "B-".
Elizabeth Should Divorce Him NOW
She should sue for divorce now so that she gets half or more of their possesion and ensure her children's future. Then she can die in peace. If she stays married and dies, her philandering husband retains all possession which could end up in another woman's hand should he marry again.
John Edwards Story
We, the public do not have all the facts, just what John and Elizabeth Edwards are telling us along with lawyers. I believe the child is his. I belive Elizabeth is covering and covered for him for two reasons, the family, and her own personal ambitions.
I heard the announcement on CNCB when they announced John Edwards was withdrawing from the race due to the recurring cancer in wife Elizabeth.( then it became clear, he was not)
She knew about the affair at that moment and time, and encouraged him to stay in the race. Books, speaking engagements, adoring fans and all the glory, hype, that goes with the wife of a Democratic hopeful. She cheated as well. I wonder if $400.00 hair cuts and "I Feel Pretty" spoof seems that unreal today.
John Edwards
Wow - the nation is full of disgusting hypocrites. I well remember the comment about Bill Clinton - oh, its just "sex". No one seemed to think his actions were repugnant or damaging to the moral fiber of the country. Now Edwards has strayed and he is treated like a criminal. Edwards might have earned his millions in a dishonest way but come on, America - excoriating the man for doing what Clinton, Roosevelt, Eisenhour, and countless other leaders have done is simply wrong. While the affairs of the leaders before Clinton were kept out of the press, the news media's desire for that big story ala Watergate means anyone and anything is fair game. I am sick of this and sick of the hypocrites. What do you expect when you allow a President to lie and then actually want to vote for the man's wife? Either it is important or it is not important but it is the DEED and not the personality that should be attacked. Shame on Edwards? No, shame on hypocrtites.
Re Elizabeth Edwards
Elizabeth Edwards may have had little to do with her philandering husband's decision to push ahead and enter the Presidential primaries. If he could be so arrogant as to assume his transgressions wouldn't come to light would he have listened to anyone who said it was a bad idea?
Mrs. Edwards is a classy, smart woman and I hope she will be allowed some privacy to deal with her family and health issues.
Congratulations
America, though you always seek for saints to lead you, you easily forget that the prospective leaders are from among you, they are not angels, this is not to cover up their weaknesses but be encourage that atleast your society is decent enough to look at issues like this. In Africa, these are no issues at all. So i want to congratulate Americans for even speaking about such issues. Keep it up.

John W. Mashek covered politics in Washington for four decades with U.S. News & World Report, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the Boston Globe. His primary beats were Congress, the White House, and national politics. He covered every presidential election from 1960 to 1996. He was a panelist in three televised presidential debates in 1984, 1988, and 1992.
