An update to yesterday's post about GOP oil and gas scare tactics: On July 31, Exxon Mobil reported a quarterly profit of over $11.5 billion, a record figure in the nation's history for one quarter. But, sure, let's turn them loose for more drilling to build on that number in an otherwise struggling economy.

Decline of America without energy self sufficiency
Well Brian of WA... You need to think a little further ahead.. If the crisis ends and oil comes down, what will our dependence on foreign oil then be (90%)... This is a WAR for our survival. This is another Pearl Harbor and if we do not respond by becoming ENERGY SELF SUFFICIENT, we will become a 2nd rate nation that sends $800 billion a year to countries that want to destroy us. This our chance and here are the facts. 1) AGGRESSIVE CONSERVATION is first and America is doing this thru buying more efficient vechicles, appliances etc. 2) Since we have vast deposits of energy offshore and Alaska, we should go all out to DRILL for those resources. This will carry us thru the period we need to develop alternative solar, wind, nuclear, nat gas and nuclear etc. New drilling technology can get sone of this energy to our home markets within 24 months, not 10 years. Note, if we had started drilling 10 years ago, all that energy would be here now. 3) Actively develop all other ALTERNATIVE sources. 4) JOBS< JOBS, JOBS..This domestic activity will immediately create AMERICAN JOBS which will help the economy. 5) The more energy efficent we become the more we can invest in CLEAN ENERGY. Without energy and subsequent jobs the environment will suffer more. 6) Make no mistake about it, we are at WAR because if we continue to be energy dependent on our enemies we will crumble within! WE CAN DO THIS IF WE PULL TOGETHER.

Has ANYONE considered the fact that DOMESTIC drilling will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs??? Who do you think would be drilling this oil? American companies, most likely using Americans. Who will be building the new drilling platforms? Making the steel? Building the ships? Americans. NOT someone on the other side of the world. T-Boone does have this one point correct, ANYTHING we do domestically will be good for Americans and the American dollar. Wind, solar, drilling for oil, nuclear, gas, refining, etc all make jobs. Lots of good paying jobs. There is big money in energy. Period.
One more thing. That oil in the ground is NOT the government's oil. That is OUR oil. The American people's oil. If WE WANT TO DRILL FOR IT, WE WILL DRILL FOR IT NO MATTER WHAT NANCY SAYS!!! No government has the right to stand in the way of the will of the people.
