Don't Buy the Republican Oil and Gas Scare Tactics

Truth
I know that I've heard that phrase before i.e., scare tactics. Oh yes, now I remember a popular use of the phrase of scare tactics. It was really popular when Congress denounced Bush almost EVERY TIME after President Bush and others (like McCain) warned yet again of Fannie and Freddie troubles coming in the future. Why is it that Democrats always seem to say that its scare tactics when they don't want to discuss what is being talked about?
I’m no big fan of President Bush but Democrats seem even WORSE than President Bush (is that why the Democrats in Congress have a lower approval rating than President Bush does?). And this time President Bush and John McCain did it right and the Democrat controlled Congress did it wrong. Democrats have cost America TRILLIONS of $$$ thus far with this, and may end up costing everyone their entire future before it’s over.
So why doesn’t any Democrat want to investigate firms like Fannie and Freddie further in detail (and why does Franks REFUSE – not just won’t do it but REFUSES – to investigate these firms instead of the “show” that we see now)? Is that because of the large corporate donations from places like Fannie and Freddie to Democrats? I am sure that if that amount of $$$ went to Republicans, there would already have been a grand jury convened by Congress and there would already be a grand jury convened. And yes, the donation amounts are public record FACT where I’ve seen Democrats investigating Republicans based on much less, like simply upon rumors.
Pickens' Corruption
If you know T Boone Pickens then you know that in the past he's been one of the most corrupt businessmen ever to walk the face of the earth. Why do you think he doesn't want more drilling? Because he's already got oil fields in west Texas and he's making a KILLING. The guy's a fraud. All his claims that alternative energy is the way to are based soley on his own profits because he knows alternative energy can never compete in a big way and the best way to keep oil prices high is to limit the supply. What a scam.
The ten year time frame
Oh my goodness. You and the green deadheads , say the drilling will have no effect for ten yrs. Ok. I'll take a page from Glenn Beck and reply that the electric plugin cars and cellulostic ethonal will not have any effect in a ten year time frame. So following Your and the greenheads logic.....those options are not worth doing either. Your as shallow as Obama and his crew. Oh, but you are a part of his crew.
T.Boone Pickens solution
You are correct in your article that the problem lays at the feet of both parties. However, the republicans did send a drilling bill to President Clinton and he vetoed it. Everyone shares the blame in this problem...presidents, congress, and the people. The news media was so interested in "sensational" and politcially correct stories that no reporter was really covering the energy problem and letting the people know what was happening. Politicians were too busy getting re-elected and fighting anyone not of their party, that they led us like sheep to the shearing. Blaming only Bush and McCain is just plain stupid and insulting to those that know how we got into this mess. Look out - your partisonship is showing...again!!

oil and grain
We buy the oil from "foreign" countries and turn in into grains to "feed the world" Don't most businesses reley heavily on outside suppliers for the resources they use to produce products? How we going to go broke if we are making a profit? Answer: Margins getting slimmer every year. Gross inefficiencies in the overall system. But one mans gross inefficiency is another man's windfall profit. Someone gets rich, someone get by, and somebody starves in a refuge camp...
Maybe we should let the corps take it all over. Put Walmart in charge of Global Food Distribution and t-shirts and flip flops. Google can be the new central intelligence agency.
Oil rights
I keep hearing and reading that the oil companies have leases
on land and in the oceans where they haven't drilled. Is it perhaps because they want to drill where its less expensive and easier to get to?
A question Folks
I have read all these comments and think maybe some of the opinions expressed are very good. However I am left with a feeling that most think American Companies own ALL the major oil companies in the world, NOT true . So who owns what ? Out of the top 5 "oil companies" how many are American companies ?
Do you really think Chavez is going to sell to Americans first ?
Are the Saudi sheiks going to sell to Americans first ? Is Mexico selling to the united states first? Is BP selling to Americans first?
I don't think so. I blame the voting public for some of the problem , we are the people who put these politicians in office whether they be Republicans or Democrats. Both parties are culpable.
One of our biggest problems is the attitude of "not in my back yard"
Now if T.Boone wants to come to my house and install solar panels, a few wind turbines and anything that does not depend on the government in any way he is more than welcome to do so, I would if I could afford it.In fact if I were a young person I would make the investment myself.
Democrats are Idiots and Republicans are Liars
Our energy crisis is equally the fault of both the Republicans and the Democrats. Neither of them represent the American public anymore, but rather their own party, lobbyists and self interests! In order to truly fix the energy problem we must take the politics out of it. New people with new ideas ( fill in T. Boone Pickens name here), that is what it will take to move America forward rapidly. The best way to achieve that is when you vote on November 4th, if a candidate has an "R", elephant, or a "D", donkey beside their name, do NOT vote for them! They represent the crisis we currently have and no realistic short or long term solutions. In otherwords, anybody but a Republican or Democrat will provide the necessary forward thinking to get us out of this energy mess and move us forward to reclaiming ourselves as the Great Nation that we once believed we were! How sad that we have to use those words. Congress has lost their vision and focus. Party politics is their major concern. We, the American people, must show them how this country must move forward and we can do that best by showing them the door! On November 4th vote for the survival of our nation, not for partisan politics!
The Pickens Plan
I'm sick and tired of seeing rich people taking advantage of the consumer. If the Pickens Plan is done you will see THE PRICE OF NATURAL GAS SKYROCKET for those consumers who use it to cook and heat their homes!!! It's exactly the same scenario as ethanol and corn. Mr. Pickens is the real beneficiary of this plan. He stands to make BILLIONS while we, the consumer, pay for it with higher prices for natural gas.
"One undeniable beneficiary of the Pickens Plan would be Pickens himself. He has bet $12 billion on a massive new wind farm in rural Texas and his BP Capital hedge fund is heavily invested in the natural gas industry."
-The Guardian, UK
We need to increase the supply of gasoline to try to soften the financial burden of same. The consumer will pay no matter what energy plan is instituted. The drilling for oil will only serve as a bridge thereby buying us time until new energy sources such as solar and hydrogen come on line.
Consumers need to buy solar so as to be ready for the electric and hydrogen cars. While we're waiting we could use this solar to run our electric meters backwards assuming that it's legal to do so. Go to Nanosolar.com and educate yourself.
CONSERVATION DOES NOT WORK FOR THE CONSUMER!!! If it did we'd be coserving like crazy!! All these energy companies have investors through either stocks or bonds. They HAVE to pay interest on bonds or dividends on stocks. When we affect their bottom line ( and we can ) they will go to their respecitive public service commisions and they will have no choice but to allow them to raise prices to pay their investors!!! The only way conservation would work is if we had price controls. Do you want that?
Oil Reserves Are A Savings Account
It seems to me that most liberals who complain about how much oil is put in the the Strategic Reserves don't seem to understand the work "reserves". The point of an oil reserve is to have oil when we "REALLY" need it and basically can't get it through normal channels. This could be due to a man-made or natural disaster. Face it. Almost everything in our current technological world is made of, runs with, or exists because of oil. This is no more evident than in how our military operates. Our military is built on being anywhere, anytime, which takes oil. Any time there is a man-made or natural disaster, we fall back on our standing Military and Rerservists to help us out. Without these Strategic Reserves in the time of crisis, there would be no help.
Please don't confuse an emergency situation where the Strategic Reserves would be used to an economic inconvenience (although a hefty one). The release of gasoline from the Strategic Reserves is a one time patch that only saves pennies per gallon - Thats right, I said "PENNIES" and only for a very short time. Then after that time, our reserves are dwindled and we have nothing to fall back on WHEN the next man-made or natural disaster strikes.
Yes, we'd all like to pay less for oil, gasoline and other oil products, and we can if we move forward with new drilling AND simultaneous development of new technologies and the EVOLUTION of existing technologies such as Wind, Natural Gas and Nuclear.
