Fixing Social Security

May 07, 2008 04:17 PM ET | Permanent Link

If "Many Say Social Security is Healthy Enough" [usnews.com] was a joke, today's young people aren't laughing.

As our generation scrambles to pay off student loans and save for that one-quarter of promised Social Security benefits we won't receive, it seems that many are searching for ways to make the program an even worse deal for future retirees. Sure, we could bring Social Security into long-term balance by raising the retirement age yet again, but what about the fact that those who rely most on Social Security also have the shortest life expectancies? We do need to restore fiscal health to Social Security, but we must do so with a sound conscience.

We all readt paid!!!!!

For those from 1946......1955.....alone paid over 3,4 Thrillion $$$$$$! They have paid for those that were getting it then...and for them selfs 3 x over!!! That is not counting what 1955 to 1962 have paid in$$$$$!

So wheres the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$?????!!!!!!!!

Presisent Clenton and congress stold Social Securty $$$ from our account funds; to balance the budget with out our say!!! The American People!!!

They should put it back!!!

Now the Perks that congress gets! They don't take it in the shorts on retirement boo coll bucks!!! Pulse their great health care program that we are not entitled too!!

All this paid at our expense tax free!!! We all ready it all and more....and we want it all back now!!! No talk of cutting back on funds that have all ready been paid in too.

It would be like a bank reneging on the % rat it was to pay on a money account!!!

I woul make congress accountable to this mase, and they can take a major cut in retirement money....Instead of getting 150,000 a year; get the average what anyboby would get...13,000 a year...And the ones getting it now, cut them too!! Put all of money back ion to the Social Securty fund.

See how they would like it!!!!!

Social Security budget

If the funds are not there for the "baby-boomers" then the elected politicians that mis - managed the funds should be held accountable! They have deducted the funds from the 'baby boomers checks for 40-50 years passed out the money to everyone, including illegal immigrants and when it it time for the small checks (based on the investment)to be paid back then it becomes a big problem! Oh, there is to many of you! The large number was not a problem while it was being deducted from the checks! If the funds had not been deducted the "baby boomers" would not need the Social Security checks.

This style of management that has led to a 9.2 trillion dollar government debt and 3.6 million jobs lost since 1997 due to all the manufacturing departing the USA. If the system was set up for the present workers to pay the "baby boomers" SS checks, then undo this mess made by encouraging maunfacturers to exit the country, allow the people to return to work and keep on deducting from those checks so justice can be served!
