Gays & Lesbians have ALREADY won

People's civil rights aren't up for popular vote like the freakin' senior prom folks. They are ALWAYS decided by the courts. Because we as a socitey can NOT be trusted to do what is fair and just. We've never been able to. Just ask any non-White in the US. They will probably agree.

Denying 1 group rights afforded to others is WORNG.

Just because you've all agreed that it's OK in this instance simply because it is against Gays and Lesbians only casts the glaring, un-Godlike light of discrimination and bigotry right into the faces of those who support inequality, yet claim to have God in their hearts. You don't. Not even close. And you know it.

Or, heck - of you just want simple proof - answer me this (assuming you know gay people and therefore have some personal experience with the topic you claim to understand fully). Why would anyone - by choice - willingly subject himself to the hate, intolerance and potential violence of a society unwilling to accept him? That just makes no sense.

The majority may have spoken...

...but my how that majority has decreased! 8 years ago, Prop 22 passed with a 23% majority. This year, Prop 8 only passed with little more than a 4% majority. That's a drastic increase in understanding, acceptance and tolerance in just a few short years.

Fear is a strong motivator, and this year, unfortunately, because of the fallacious campaign run by the "Yes on 8," team, fear prevailed over what had been a trend towards reason supported by education.

This fight continues because the Proposition never received the 2/3 necessary vote before it went to ballot. The "No on 8" protesters are not sore losers - they are trying to correct an unethical wrong fueled by out-of-state special interests. The fight continues because it is illegal to propose anything that would drastically change the underlying principle of our state's Constitution the way Prop 8 did. The fight continues because the ideology of the majority has changed drastically and continues to change as we speak. Civil Rights - equal protection under the law - these are things granted by legislators, not popular thought. As our tainted social history shows, popular thought is not always righteous - or moral.

Its about civil rights and nothing else

I spent time defending this country during Desert Storm, I believed in the statement "all men are created equal" I would have given my life for that single concept. Now I am being told by the very constituency that I risked my life for, "you are not exactly equal", I am ashamed of calling myself an American, this is no longer a country running on the ideals of our birthing fathers, this is a country running on the ideals of certain influential bigots, using the name of God to justify their fear and hate. I have taken my medals off the walls and folded my flag one last time, until I am afforded the same rights as everyone one else, this is no longer the home of the free, but rather the home of the free if your just like me.If justice prevails, then my faith will once again be restored and nothing less will do.

My questions are if prop 8 was illegal then why was it allowed on the ballot in the first place?Why the hell even vote if what you are voting for will be changed anyway by a few justices?If the gays won do you think the Cal supreme court would even listen to the yes supporters if they filed a lawsuit?Not on your life.Might as well have a dictatorship because this sure isnt a democracy.

Sore Losers?

I love these people that are up on their soap boxes saying "quit being sore losers about prop 8" This IS NOT A GAME. These are families being ripped apart, these are people being denied rights that straight people that supported this prop take for granted every day. These are gay lovers being barred from seeing their lovers in the hospital, and being denied insurance and medical rights that straight people, again, take for granted every day. Don't talk like this is a game, these are people's lives you all are playing with, think about that before you cast your vote for such a hateful, bigoted proposition.

how can you say it hasnt been proven that your born gay. i beg to differ. there are COUNTLESS studies that does indeed prove one is biologically born gay. so i take it male dogs humping other male dogs, they chose the male for lust vs instinct? yea, right! chose to be gay? yea, i am gay, i chose to be discriminated against, i chose to be assaulted, i chose to be rediculed etc etc etc. why would ANYONE choose to live a life that is condemend? i no more chose to be gay then you chose to be straight..do you , as a straight person, think for one day you could choose to sleep with someone of the same sex? now your probably thinking ( that is disgusting, hell no i couldnt do that) OK point proven..i just as well couldnt sleep with someone of the oposit sex for same reason. you say "why take it to the courts now, we "gays" should have protested before the vote" HELLO, wtf do you think we have been doing? in may the courts decided we COULD have marriage, it was the right wing bigots that decided to fight it..i dont understand how difficult it is legally, simply put, our founding fathers clearly stat that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL..ok damn it, TREAT us as equals. we are excercising our rights to pursue happiness. if you know you are going to heaven, WHAT does my salvation have to do with you? To choose or not to choose...

So since we can't prove that being gay is genetic means it isn't??? What about what a person says to you or how a person has felt their whole entire life??? Does that not matter at all?? People's experiences are their own and nobody can take that away. What I feel is what I feel and I know, I can attest to the fact that I was born gay. Because it has been the way I felt my whole life. Why would I have chosen such a hard path?? Choosing to be discriminated against, possibly being disowned from my family, being treated as a pervert, I could go on and on. I was too brought up Catholic. However, I am also gay. How much of a struggle do you ignorant people think that was??? I denied who I was until adulthood. Why should I have to do that and why should anyone?? It is just like being black (sorry to break it to you black people), but it is. Being gay is just as much who I am as someone is black, or left-handed or Hispanic, etc...It is not a choice, please try to understand that. I am very accepting of who I am today, however, 15 years ago, if I could've changed who I was willingly, I sure would have. Who wants to be different, everyone wants to be like everyone else. Please people, don't preach about something that you know absolutely nothing about!!

It has and will be used to sue doctors and religious adoption institutions. It has and will be used to throw ministers preaching against it in jail.
