More Fuel for Thought

"Big Oil's State of Denial" [June 9] is typical of the information put forth by environmentalists.

Oil shale will very likely never be economically feasible, and tar sands may never be recoverable. Oil companies spend billions every year to keep up with the growing demand for petroleum and products derived from it. If Democrats allowed drilling in some of the places now off limits, the price of oil would drop.

I will be at the head of the line to purchase one of the first all-electric autos for two reasons: robber barons and Standard Oil. I will be at the head of the line to purchase roof-mounted solar cells. And I will not worry any more about Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson than he worries about me.

Yes, we have an energy crisis, but it isn't oil that's the issue. Unlike chlorofluorocarbons, which have little benefit and are destructive to the atmosphere, carbon dioxide, a trace element of the atmosphere, is a required gas for life. Simply put, there are things that depend on it; us included. What I'd like to see is an editorial on the lack of our political system to come up with an energy policy that benefits all Americans: upgrading nuclear plants, building new refineries, exploiting wind technology, drilling, and finally, developing clean energy rather than a scare policy.

2008 presidential campaign

I am a devout catholic and resent the vile comments made by John Hagee of the baptist religion, spreading hate and blasphemy against my church. John Mc,ain endorses this minister of hate and lies against our beliefs. I have always voted republican in the past with my family. No Longer. Obama now has our support during the presidential elections. .
