A Future for All

April 30, 2008 02:48 PM ET | Permanent Link | Print

I really enjoyed the interview with Donna Foote, "What is Teach for America Really Like?" [usnews.com], however, I was troubled by the last line of the article.

As a Teach for America alum one of the most important messages I took away from my time in the Corps was that "these children" do have a future. "These children" are no different from any other children, in many ways. However they lack key educational opportunities that more affluent students have. All children can have a bright future and it is our responsibility as a nation to ensure that this comes to fruition through closing the educational achievement gap.
