Jim Brown is (Mostly) Wrong on Tiger Woods' Social Activism

YOU ASK-----why?
But, truthfully, I confess I was disappointed when Tiger took the safe way out during last year's presidential election. If there was anyone who should have endorsed Obama—
HAS IT OCCURRED TO ANYONE WHO IS FLUMMOXED BECAUSE EL TIGRE DIDN'T ENDORSE "THE ONE", THE MARXIST CANDIDATE, THAT POSSIBLY, JUST POSSIBLY, WOODS DOES NOT RELISH THE ENORMOUS, INCREDIBLE TAX HIKE HE, PERSONALLY, WILL BE HIT WITH WHEN OBAMA'S TAX REFORMS KICK IN?
YOU IDIOT LIBERALS WHO MAKE A FRACTION OF WHAT TIGER MAKES THINK HE IS JUST RARIN' TO GET HIS TAX BRACKET EVEN HIGHER THAN IT ALREADY IS?
MAYBE HE ACTUALLY DISAGREES WITH OBAMA ON SOME SERIOUS POLICY MATTERS AND DOESN'T GIVE A RAT'S A$$ THAT THEY SHARE SOME RIDICULOUSLY SMALL PERCENTAGE OF A GENE POOL.
Jim Brown is Mostly Wrong about Tiger....
Tiger decided to play golf professionally, worked very hard at his craft, had goals in mind, kept his nose clean, had good manners, etc., and for this he is supposed to be a social activist. It is not good enough that as soon as he was able (1996) he with encouragement from his dad decided to give back to society through the lens of education. He had a short-term and a long-term plan which he indicates he wants to do right and efficiently. Now everyone wants a piece of him and believe they know his thoughts, his like and dislikes. That he should not have a thought of his own. Get off your couches and surpass what Tiger is doing - then point the finger.
Taking sides
Gee, I thought we were supposed to support those whom we thought would govern best, not who matched a certain skin color. Look at the grief heaped upon (Republican) General Powell
when he finally endorsed Obama....
What a crock!
Jim Brown has long been one of the biggest bigots, not only in sports, but in America, and a chilling reminder that racists don't have to be white. His, and your, logic doesn't add up. If it is somehow the duty of all Black Americans to support a black candidate, wouldn't the same logic hold true for white Americans? Under this line of thinking white America should be lashing out at those "traitors" who dared to not vote for their "own" candidate. Let's forget the fact that he is half Thai, and Republicans tend to do well with Asian-Americans. We should also forget that Obama is half-white, and therefore one could argue the choice was between two white candidates. What a truly assinine argument, and yet another attempt by the previous generations to pass down their own bigotry on to new generations. I truly believe that on the front of race, we are progressively moving away from a culture defined by race, even though those born before 1970 continue to try to bring us down to their level.
In the end who knows, maybe having a mother who was Thai, and father who was a veteran, Tiger was better equipped to see the ills of socialism and "peace, love, dope" diplomacy than Jim Brown. Or maybe Tiger was just as upset as the rest of us at the piss-poor choices given to voters. Of course all of this assumes Tiger isn't the racist Mr. Brown is, and looks at more than someone's skin color before endorsing them, which to the previous generation would be assuming a lot, but not so much to a newer generation.
his connections and his silence
this is tough...i have much respect for tiger, brown and wilbom.....but,as even casual fans know...there are few democrats on the pga tour.[it's probably just as conservative as nascar]...and nike....even michael jorden knew not to mess with them....
the fact that president obama did so poorly among white voters without college degrees makes a lie of the idea that we are anywhere near "post-racial." some parts of the country are, but, sadly, not most of them....
Post racial
Not so fast, as long as the GOBS (good old boys)exist we are not in a post racial society. Yes in the US if you are of color and you win in any sport they accept you (not tennis where it took years for the Williams sisters to get the respect they deserve) So making the suggestion that we just let Tiger play gold is just what you want. What if he was like Oprah and took a stand???
Do as you want Tiger
Why are we to assume that because of the color of his skin that Tiger woods is a democrat. Should we also assume that all wealthy white men are republicans. Hell, He may think both sides are screwed up and choose not to vote. The great thing about this country is it his right to vote, not vote, endorse or not endorse. To be honest I don't think a scumbag wife beater like Jim brown needs to be giving any athlete advice, especially Tiger Woods.
FARRELL, ARE YOU NUTS?
Woods should have endorsed Obama merely because one is black (mostly) and the other a mulatto? What sort of liberal, progressive "half thought" is that?
Maybe Woods didn't like Obama's politics or lack of experience... Or maybe Obama's massive ego turned him off.
Obama is president only because of his skin color. A white man with his inexperience and dirty Chicago connections wouldn't have even made it to the primaries. This is the pinnacle of reverse racism.
We have to let Tiger be Tiger
But we hope he is not against Obama for fear of having his taxes raised. After all, his excess money is as well off helping to fund Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, public schools and maybe universal health care---than it is in any other charity he funds voluntarily. Government may be a little clumsy, but it also does plenty of important charity too, and I suspect Tiger understands that.
We also want to "hope" Tiger is for the type of leadership spoken by Obama/Biden more than that exhibited last fall by the McCain/Palin campaign. If indeed Tiger's opportunities come through the Country Club crowd and he has to be silent for that reason, we have no reason to be hassling him. We just have to understand and let him do what he does---play golf and inspire people.
