DC United anyone? This isn't lacrosse or anything. That team won championships and averages around 18,000 fans a game. Just because soccer only started getting popular after you got out of college Farrell doesn't mean that you can write it off yet again.
You must be blind
You don't know what you are talking about. If you actually watch the tape, you will see there is an opponent closing on Laich. If I were that opposing player, I would have no trouble at all getting my stick on any pass to Laich, keeping the game alive. I guess you just said this to create controversy. you are so unaware of the character of OV that you should not even try to write about the CAPS.
The clash of the ownership groups
The Skins problem is multi-ownership. Let's face it, there are two owners of the Redskins. Sure there's Dan Snider who pays the bills and collects the tickets. He hired Jim Zorn to coach and despite the fact that he hangs out with total reprobates like W, he seems to have a good football head on his shoulders.
But then there is the other ownership group. The silent interferers and creators of disorder. Who are these sources of mysterious, negative energy? I believe that they are the management group of Easterns Motors.
When you look at who is responsible for offensive production on the Redskins and who is appearing in the Easterns Motors ads, there is a very close correspondence. When you have the leading offensive producer apparently recruiting for commercial appearances and then reffering to the coach in a satirical way, i.e. the "genius" comment, one has to start thinking about who is really running the show here.
I would also like to point out how offensive I beleive Mr. Portis's comments regarding his participation in getting Mr. Sellers to the Pro-Bowl were. Particularly, how much he would make Mr. Sellers spend on his party habits. Not that I think Mr. Sellers can't afford it, but in today's economy, football is a luxury item and frankly, Mr. Portis made it sound like Mr. Sellers owed him a 10k trip for getting him in the game. I'm unemployed and I'm lucky to be able to afford a six pack of decent beer to watch him on TV let alone go to a game.
Once Mr. Snider recognizes the problems of his team management issues and establishes through contracts limitations on advertising as well as the general disruptive nature of certain players, the redskins will then be able to create a cohesive offensive strategy. Right now, the term "Redskins Football" only means hand the ball from one management group to the other and hope they produce. Once we have a real management plan that all the players follow, without disruption, we will have a winning team.
Don't Overlook United
You have forgotten D.C. United of the MLS. They have have won 4 MLS Cup Championships (1996,1997,1999,2004) and a couple international competitions as well.

Ovi to Laich
If you're going to lead with the "greedy" story, then it would be fair to mention the empty-netter he passed up to feed a teammate earlier in the season (I believe it was Backstrom). Ovechkin and every player needs to take the high-percentage shot, and forcing gives to teammates (even to round out a hat trick) should not be expected at this level. I'm sure Brooks, who is having a great run, would agree.

Hockey is a fast moving game
Up by two with a minute left does NOT make another goal gravy. This is hockey, not football. Teams can and do score twice within a minute.
