Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell is up with a new TV ad responding to attacks over his Christian Broadcasting Network University thesis. The Republican's spot blends traditional values and feminist messages: "I believe in strong families and raising three daughters to be independent, professional women."

An unusual thematic combination? I'd argue not—I see it all the time in religious circles, including conservative Christian ones.
