Homosexuals and Christianity
I am a retired United Methodist Pastor who happens to be genetically homosexual. My journey to acceptance of self has included marriage to an exceptionally gifted and wonderful woman and two daughters who have accepted both my homosxxuality and my partner. I was offered a divorce by my wife but I chose to remain loyal to her and did not have a LTR until after her death from the effects of diabites in 2003
I have struggled with and continue to struggle with the German martyr Dieterich Bonhoeffer's question, "Who am I . ." that which others tell of me or that which I know of myself. In the midst of this struggle I confidently affirm that I am God's. That is an affirmation which is deeply engraved on my heart not by any willfulness on my part but by the Holy Spirit working within me.
Any negative reaction to me by fellow Christians is completely irrelevant because these folk are neither the Holy Spirit nor God. It deeply saddens me that the temporal powers of my denomination as well as those of others have chosen to let their emotional biases, most of long standing, get in the way of the movement of the Holy Spirit. Biblically we have been told that what is required by God is to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God (Micah). Jesus affirmed that the great commandments (he did not use the form of the Ten Commandments) is to Love the Lord our God with all our heart, minds, soul and strength and our neighbors as ourselves(Matthew) This is both our political agenda and faith agenda. To do less than this is to disobey two distinct, straightforward directions from our Judaeo/Christian scriptures.
President Obama's personal views have no meaning to me - only to him. I trust that he will come to understand that homosexuals are persons of great worth and will support a climate which lets us live out our Christian lives in peace and in service to God and others.

Also, does a "daily devotional" replace going to Mass??? What about his wife and children? And who can prove he gets a devotional in the first place – or that it's even Christian? No one has access to his B-Berry.

Our American soldiers are at war while this lying doper prances around like a king. He is a criminal and has committed so many crimes its taking 3 people to keep track of them...he is an illegal alien and doesn't care a whit about Christians. He is a Muslim and has no principals. I guess if I was in a school that made me say bad things about America continuously I would hate me too just for the boring routine of saying the same old thing day in and day out.

I know pro-gay rights Roman Catholics. I know lesbian & gay Roman Catholics, bless their long-suffering, idealistic hearts. But I have never met a lesbian or gay Evangelical protestant. Even Jim Wallis doesn't sound authentic in his views on GLBT rights. Just use your rational noggin Mr. Prez. Give the Pentagon a date for ending DADT. It's how Harry Truman would do it.

I believe everyone understands the process of how human life begins.
What is not taught in biology is how people abort unborn babies. If abortion was not ugly then everyone would know the truth about abortion (suction, dismemberment, spine severing, head crushed, and brain suction).
The complete truth of abortion sounds like a horror movie.
I understand your situation was different and more complex than 93% of the people who abort as a choice.
What is hard to understand is why compassion and a choice is not given to the unborn child for the other 93%.

It's a process that stops division of cells. Sperm enters egg, one cell each. The 2 cells divide to be a zygote. It divides to be 4 cells, called the blastocyst that fastens to the wall of the womb. 2 of the cells are part of he placenta and amniotic sac. At 4 weeks, the embryo has 2 layers of cells. At 8 weeks, it it's the size of one egg of Beluga caviar. If you make the woman wait to 3 months, the abortionist has to deal with one ounce of cells, about 3 inches long. At 4 months, cartilage is turning to bone. Ignorance of the process of mitosis is curable by study. See Washington State Dept. of Health list of genetic diseases, to understand why ending a conception is often a loving and admirable decision. Lawyers tell parents they're eligible for millions of tax dollars if their born child has a reportable genetic illness. Pro-Life churches believe each conception is a potential payer of tithes, if not aborted. The tithe is usually 10% of lifetime income. At a yearly income of $40,000 paid over forty years, the dollar value of a conception is $160,000.

Dismember Abortion is where they take forcepts to dismember the babies parts and pull them out of the mother womb. They rip the legs, arms, and body apart to extract the unborn baby. Then they crush the head of the unborn baby to remove it.
Partial Birth Abortion is where they deliver everything but the head of the baby, They then stick a pair of scissors into the back of the neck of the unborn baby to seperate it's spine. Then they use the vacuum to suck the babies brain out.

LGBT people and basic rights
If you really think that comment is going to reassure LGBT people, you're kidding yourself. As a gay man, I don't need my President to concern himself with whether I feel "victimized" or "hurt". I don't much care what sort of "solicitude" or "regard" or "concern" he feels for me. I just want him to keep his promises. Decisions about whether people should be protected against being fired for their sexual orientation, or barred from service in the military, or whether same-sex couples should have the same rights as straight couples, do not require the President to engage in spiritual soul-searching. They require him only to remember that his responsibilities as President are secular, not religious, and that he can't have it both ways. He will press for LGBT people to achieve the same rights other people take for granted, or else he will not. So far he has made a lot of speeches, but seems to believe that that is all he needs to do. Here's my prediction: you will see either actual movement on legislation to pass ENDA and repeal DADT and DOMA, or you will hear increasingly fierce criticism from the LGBT people who voted for Obama, and found that the President we voted for is not the President we got.

This excuse of Security and disrupting the Congregations, I don't buy, and neither does alot of people. You go to Church for yourself,not for anybody else.
