Stupak Says He'll still vote for the Bill Even If It Has Public-Funding for Abortion

At a recent town-hall meeting, Rep. Stupak stated that if he is unsuccessful in getting the public funded abortion option removed from the health care bill, he'll still vote yes to the bill.

Federally Funded Abortion on Demand is on its way

Once Again, House Rejects Amendment Preventing Taxpayer Funding for Abortion

WASHINGTON, D.C. - After adding abortion coverage and funding last night to the Democratic leadership's health care bill, H.R. 3200, the Energy and Commerce Committee today rejected an amendment to prevent government funding for abortion or health plans that provide abortion coverage. Family Research Council President Tony Perkins had this to say regarding this latest Committee action:

"Once again the Democratic Majority has demonstrated it fully intends to fund or subsidize abortion services in their health care plan. Four amendments in two other committees to prevent funding or mandates for abortion have been rejected. Last night, the Committee rejected an amendment to prohibit mandating abortion coverage before explicitly inserting abortion coverage into the legislation. Today, the Democratic majority rejected another amendment by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) and Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) to prevent funds from paying for abortion coverage.

"The House action last night and today do not shift the current policy on funding abortion, they destroy it. With the majority of Americans, we believe that health care legislation should not cover abortion. The actions of the House Committee demonstrate beyond any doubt that it intends for the federal government to fund coverage of abortion on demand.

"Whatever their position on the legality of abortion, we should all agree that abortion should not be funded by the federal government. I applaud pro-life Members, especially those five Democrats led by Rep. Stupak, who voted to keep abortion out of the health care bill."

"We will continue to work with members of both parties to remove abortion from the government health care plan when this legislation moves to the House floor," said Tony Perkins.

Left Wing Baby Killing Zealots

Wendy of OR is so far off base that it shows how ignorant she really is on this issue.

Forcing me to pay for someone to kill a baby is not "Your right". Just because someone got knocked up doesn't give them the right to steal from me.

Even ardent pro-abortion supporters are not in favor of public funding.

Wake up Wendy. Dtop looking for government to support the immorality of you and your friends.

John of Ft. Lauderdale

Abortion as an issue to derail health care.

Abortion is legal in this country. However, relgious zealots of the far-right can try to impose their religious standards, rules and definitions to limit a woman's reproductive rights regardless of HER religious beliefs, financial situation, or personal health. The zealots do not care about women's rights nor about religious freedom...of OTHER people than themselves. They also do not care about the impact of not having health care insurance on millions of Americans including those babies they claim to think about...who may die from lack of health care...an issue which takes a backseat to their dogma. Those of us who already have health insurance have in most every case, the access to payment to our doctors for abortion. It is the poor who have fewer options and greater financial constraints on survival and basic care for their families who are often without health coverage for abortion. These are those for whom these rightwingers would deny choice and if it costs these same strapped Americans health care to make the rightwingers' points, so be it.

Disgusting!

Health Care

We desperantly need a health care plan in this country but not a plan to kill more babies. I pray everyone will contact their senators and congress persons and voice our needs. They do take notice because I always receive a email or letter back. It only takes a couple of minutes to send an email.

Inconsistencies - So what?

"Uh, a woman can be prosecuted if she does drugs or other harmful substances when pregnant."

And as a result pregnant drug addicts do not seek proper medical treatment throughout their pregnancy and during labor because they are afraid of criminal prosecution.

"And the law also says the baby is not really a baby where it allows abortion, but then turn around and charges a person killing a pregnant baby with double homicide."

And the law does not provide death certificates for miscarriages. And a fetus can be discarded as medical waste unlike human corpses. There are a number of inconsistencies in the law with respects to the legal status of fetuses that run counter to your analysis.

tax-funded abortions

So would you the taxpayer rather pay $400 one time only for an abortion, or $700 a month for 21 years in welfare? Be careful what you wish for!
