Please don't be fooled

Hagee has a friend in Bill Donahue from the Catholic League. Both of them use their faith for political purposes... Simple as that. What Bill Donahue is doing to the Catholic Church by operating as a Republican Schill using my faith for his personal and political gain will do more damage to the Catholic Church than anypriest scandal could ever do.

I've been to a CUFI event

I attended CUFI 2007.

And, I've been credited, by a number of mainstream media venues, and in Eric Boehlert's book "Bloggers On The Bus", with having precipitated the McCain / Hagee split in May 2008.

My writing substantiates John Hagee as having promoted most of the classic anti-Semitic tropes known to history, and I've probably written more on John Hagee than anyone on or off the Net.

I've had two comments - which added substantial information on Hagee and CUFIto this discussion - deleted from this post already.

Does US News & World Report have a de-facto censorship policy ?

I'm concerned that this might be the case, though I find it hard to believe Dan Gilgoff himself would endorse these comment deletions.

hitler a catholic, of course he is it is a pagen religion that call the pope the holy father.

My HOLY FATHER IS IN HEAVEN WITH MY SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. Just antoher way satan works to be like the real thing which he can not be

Don't Be Fooled

Dan, you need to do a little more homework about John Hagee and CUFI. If you had you would have learned that the foundational theology for this movement has little to do with holocaust guilt or a compassion for Jewish people. It's about what dispensationalists like Hagee consider to be a fulfillment of biblical prophecy leading to a catastrophic End preparing the way for the Second Coming of Christ. In his public statements Hagee discounts this, but a quick scan of his writings and sermons shows that this is, indeed, what it is about. The Jews in this case are not neighbors to be loved, but pawns to be moved on a cosmic chessboard; or better - actors in a drama with good guys and bad guys, the bad guys being played by Palestinians, Iranians and Arabs. It's a Manichean drama with no subtleties, and no sense of history.

What Hagee wishes most of all is for the End to come quickly. If what it takes is provoking Iran and Israel to a nuclear exchange, so be it. The End is all that matters.

you people are nuts

Self-entitlement in all of human existence based on a book of fairy tales....misinterpreted ones at that....AND REVISED hundreds of times over. The work of Dickens is more pure.

If the Greeks had had the stronger army and propaganda push I suppose we'd all be quoting Homer and referring to the Trojans as a "brother country"

You should consider the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster....at least their heaven has a beer volcano and a stripper factory.

Christians For Jews & Prophecy

I was pleased to read your Many Christians Unite for Israel Event article, and thought it was just wonderful to announce. I have been listening to Pastor John Hagee along with my parents (& especially my father) basically all my life. I grew up in a Southern Baptist home here in Houston, Texas. Now, I'm a young Christian, but not a baby Christian, and there is a difference. A young Christian is someone who is young in their years of life, and a baby Christian is one who is a baby spiritualy in Christianity. So, being raised in a Baptist church environment, and having watched the televangelism programs on television (rather it be John Hagee or Billy Graham) my parents have been Christians & have raised me in and on the word. The country of Israel is seen by most Baptists & other denominations of Christianity; as a sort of brother country to us in America and one of quite importance. We are ourselves, as Christians the adopted children of God (because the Jews are the chosen) and thus the Jewish people as our adopted brothers in faith. Jesus was a Jew, and that is exactly who we see and love, as Christians, as our Lord and Savior & Messiah. Y'shua, as many call him & as we called him in our Baptist Church is what Jewish people call Jesus in Hebrew, so we are all very related in that aspect. Although we believe that Jesus is the one way and only way to get to Heaven, they do not, so we are not addressing that idea at this time, we are supporting the belief that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, and we're doing our duty by keeping Israel Jewish. We'll be doing our part in trying to fufill a biblical prophecy, & as Christians we believe that to be a blessing. One in which Israel plays a major part.

Nazianity

“The anti-Semitism of the new [Christian Social] movement was based on religious ideas instead of racial knowledge.”

"As a human being it is my duty to see to it that humanity will not suffer the same catastrophic collapse as did that old civilization two thousand years ago, a civilization which was driven to its ruin by the Jews. . . I am convinced that I am really a devil and not a Christian if I do not feel compassion and do not wage war, as Christ did two thousand years ago, against those who are steeling and exploiting these poverty-stricken people."

Maybe if the Christian Zionists had a brain

They'd go to JewsAgainstZionism.com and read up on how the Zionists were allied with the Nazis in an effort to herd Jews into Palestine. They then might also read The Thirteenth Tribe and find out that the vast majority of modern Jews are not Hebrew at all but are gentile ex-pagan converts to Judaism circa 700 AD whose roots are in Central Asia - therefore they have absolutely no historical claim to Palestine. They then might get even wiser, get their heads out of their Scofield bibles (Scofield was a con-artist) and re-read what Jesus said about the Pharisees. Then go to the Jewish Encyclopedia and find out what Pharisee means (all of modern Judaism is directly sprung from it.) They might also question why they are doing Un-Christian things like praying for Armageddon and cheering on Zionists (a racist ideology if there ever was one) while they kill Palestinian and Lebanese Christians. These Christian Zionists are not very Christian.

Fixing typo.

A few posts back, I wrote: "Mendel dug through 1548 bound volumes of OSS documents." That should be "148 bound volumes."
