New Religious Left Skirmish: Catholics for Choice Attacks Obama Pick
Reader Comments
Pro-choice Catholic
I am a Catholic.
Morality aside, I believe that the right to a safe abortion is a public health issue. It should be part of a health program.
On a matter related to women's health, people may be unaware that some employee health insurance programs impose a "rider" or extra premium for employees to receive maternity benefits. What kind of health program is that?
There are many "moral" issues in this world that people have to decide upon, individually, with advice and consent, including having an abortion, waging war, imposing taxes, upholding workers' rights, and on and on. We need to focus on what is fair an equitable for both sexes and for all income groups.
Catholics for Choice is a contradiction.
What these people don't realize is that they are no longer Catholics, they just think they are. Anyone who advocates or participates in abortion has excommunicated themselves because it is a heresy to go against the teachings of the Church. So what we are seeing here is a "Lie" nicely packaged and supported by foolish individuals who once were Catholic. This makes other Catholics who don't know the teaching of the Church think it's somehow alright if Catholic's support Pro-Choice but what that is ...is a great help to a very pro-abortion administration and a group of former Catholics leading other Catholics to dissent by ignorance. Unbelievable! I choose to pray, pray and pray all the more.
Truth:
Truth is that the Catholic Catechism states very clearly that abortion is wrong. As a Christian it is wrong to kill.
People can try to twist the Truth but they are simply not speaking the Truth if you say I am for abortion and I am a Catholic or Christian. It's not like being in a buffet line where you can pick which morals you will follow. God gave christians the Light of Truth and you can not just pick and choose what parts you want to follow.
It's simple. Ask yourself if this is love for all humans involved in this situation. If the answer is no then you are not follow Jesus.
Abortion is not Love for the unborn human baby.
enough
These attacks from Catholics for Choice are beyond silly – and proof, once again, that those who take extreme positions on both sides of the abortion debate are far more interested in promoting the “culture wars” than finding common ground so we can work together for social justice and the common good. Fortunately, most people of faith are tired of the wars and find organizations like Catholics for Choice increasingly irrelevant.
catholics for choice attack obama pick
I don't know why the author even bothered to treat this as a newsworthy story. Catholics for Choice is an oxymoron. The views of Jon O'Brien are so out of step with Catholic dogma that they are probably grounds for excommunication. Catholics for Choice is nothing more than a public relations front organization without any real dues paying membership, kind of like the organizations dreamt up by Big Oil to deny global warming, or the "scientific" groups invented by Big Tobacco to let us know all the wonderful health benefits of pack-a-day smoking.
Something doesn't make sense here
This is in response to John Warren's posting.
How can someone be "pro unintrusive government" yet "pro God and Christianity; pro life; pro marriage; pro traditional and Judeo Christian values; pro Bible reading and prayer in our public schools, pro Christians schools and private education."
Sounds pretty intrusive to me.
Vote Romney-Palin 2012 because of their rightwing conservatisim
In 2012 we must vote for Governor Mitt Romney to become our President starting on January 20, 2013 , and we must vote for Governor Sarah Palin to become our Vice President on January 20, 2013 bcause of their superior rightwing conservative philosophy . Their superior rightwing conservative philosophy is shown in that they are pro God and Christianity, pro life, pro marriage; pro guns-second amendment, pro low taxes, pro low government spending; pro small government, pro unintrusive government, pro traditional and Judeo Christian values; pro Bible reading and prayer in our public schools, pro Christians schools and private education , pro private and free enterprise; pro military spending, anti arms agreements with Russia, pro creation; pro nuclear, pro conservative supreme court judges, pro American sovereignty; pro capitalism, anti communist, anti socialist; conservative on immigration, and pro constitution. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are of the inferior liberal and left wing ideology in that they are against every thing that Governors Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin are for and they are for every thing that Governors Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin are against
John Warren
doing something right
Kelley's appointment was also criticized by the far right fringe Catholic News Agency. I think that shows that Obama is doing something right. I've always been a fan of the work that Catholics in Alliance has done and look forward to seeing Kelley succeed in her new role.
Not Catholics
Catholics only by name this group is clearly out of touch with the correct doctrine of the Church on the matter of abortion. Of course they may enter the Temple, anybody can, but they would not be able to receive the Sacrament of Communion (Eucharist) and thus celebrate a valid mass, which is at the core of the Catholic faith. If under the condition of their belief they were to receive Holy Communion, they would: "...eat and drink judgement against themselves." For: "Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be answerable for the body and blood of Jesus." Now ask them if they believe this. And if they don't there you have the proof they are definitely not Catholics in good standard. I am pretty sure they would not be able to even identify the source of the previous quotes.
Happened all the time under Clinton
You seem to have a short memory - Clinton was widely panned by the left for his unwillingness to push harder on environmental policy, healthcare, etc. As far as specific political appointments, I'd say the left has attacked Bob Rubin, Larry Summers, and others.
Still, a good point - what's most interesting is the internecine struggle between abortion reduction proponents and abortion rights defenders. And it really sounds more like sour grapes than anything. Kelley is nothing if not committed to personal freedom, but she's also firmly within the tradition of Catholic social teaching.
