Robby George Rolls Out New Conservative Group: American Principles Project

As religious conservatives are receiving some cold shoulders from the Republican Party, they're beginning to launch new political organizations of their own. Tonight, coinciding with his debate with Doug Kmiec at the National Press Club—an exchange that began here on God & Country—conservative Catholic legal scholar and activist Robby George will be unveiling one of them: the American Principles Project.
The group's website says it will hold Republicans to account on conservative positions:
The message of the 2006 and 2008 elections is not that the American people want to be governed by the ultraliberal and statist ideology of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid; rather it is that Americans will not tolerate Republicans and "conservatives" who refuse to honor in practice the principles they purport to affirm—Republicans and "conservatives" who expand government, spend our tax dollars wantonly, do nothing about out-of-control judges who undermine democracy, and sit idly by as marriage is redefined and further weakened.
The key difference between this group and others cropping up to chart a course forward for the GOP is that the American Principles Projects counts opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage among its top priorities.
Here's a rundown of the group's leadership. The communications director is the popular conservative Catholic blogger behind American Papist.

It All Boils Down To Corruption
Here is a letter I sent to Senator Ben Nelson today:
Dear Senator Nelson:
Do you know who is writing the bills, i.e., the stimulus bill, the health care bill? Do you care?
How about the millions of dollars gone down the rathole of corrupt "Acorn"? How about the billions tapped to go down the same rathole? Do you really think the videos done by independent people and released by Fox News are a "doctored smear campaign? Do you really think all the voter registration fraud was a few "rogue" employees? Why has any investigation been quashed?
Have you read Cass Sunstein's writings? Should dogs have lawyers and hunting be abolished? Where do you stand on the Second Amendment?
Mark Lloyd -- diversity czar? Where do you stand on the "Fairness Doctrine" or any other attempt to stiffle free speech?
How about Jeffrey Immelt -- GE CEO? He's now a member of the NY Fed Board of Directors.
Denis Hughes -- AFL/CIO? Now in charge of the NY Fed?
What do you know about Jeff Jones? The Weather Underground which he help found with our old pal Bill Ayres? He's working for the Gov. of New York. He's helping people get grants from the stimulus package which his group APOLLO helped write. That's a quote from Sen. Reid.
Did you know who Van Jones really was? Do you know what APOLLO is? How about STORM?
How about Tim Geitner? Do you think non-payment of taxes is a good measure of who should guard the treasury?
Who are the other czars? Do you care?
Do you care about this country? Do you have a backbone? At what point is the corruption enough for you to take a stand -- or, for that matter, even take notice?
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Restating the issue
I believe The Republican Party started veering to the left -in their never ending search for common ground - and leaving conservatives and libertarians behind with their 'limited but active' gov.t the second the 1st Pres.Bush took office. Sorry libertarians, but as long as the Democrat party is 95% pro-abortion, you're stuck with the religious right. Opposing same-sex marriage has NOTHING to do with homophobia, as the left and the MSM are so happy to promote--it's a belief about preserving and promoting the traditional family unit as the most successful way to raise children (as most scientific studies have proven, by the way)
What makes me angry is the ammunition the Republican party has given the media and the Democrat party by 'pretending' to be conservatives in order to get their vote. Reagan conservatives never changed: Pro-life, small federal gov.t, promoting the individual through low taxes, a strong private sector, and equal opportunity for all, strong national defense and strong family values. THOSE values attracted the Reagan Democrats and Independents. Pick and choose republicans - social conservatives (Bush), fiscal conservatives (McCain) have trashed an ideology that won 2 landslide presidential elections (Reagan) and overthrew a Democrat Congress that had been in power for decades. Is it any wonder the Republican party is so splintered right now?
Good riddance
The republican party needs to ditch this faction and concentrate on what should be its core principle less goverment in all aspects of our lives. The Libertarians in the party need to break from the religous right.
