Gallup Poll: More Than Two Thirds of Catholics Approve of Obama

Is it possible that a lot of us in the media—me included—have made way too much of the Notre Dame controversy? Gallup has a new poll out today showing that 67 percent of Roman Catholics approve of Obama's job performance. That's compared to Obama's 63 percent approval rating among all Americans.
Even Catholics who call themselves politically conservative are more likely to approve of Obama than not.

I would like to know where the practicing Catholics are that support Obama's stand on abortion are, clearly they are not following the teachings of the Catholic church, therefore they cannot be called Catholic. I believe that any Christian person, regardless of the particular title their religion holds,cannot in good conscience support the views of the president on this issue. I personally believe that he is systematically undermining the values that this country was founded on.

Large numbers of Catholic bishops, priests, and religious have supported President Obama. That is the best kept secret. The conservative bishops and clergy get all the media headlines while the more moderate and progressive of bishops and clergy keep silent and out of the line of fire.
Criminalizing abortion is the one and only issue for conservative Catholics who strongly support and endorse torture, capital punishment and unjust wars.
More moderate Catholics see highly publicized and angry campaigns by conservative Catholics to criminalize abortion has not only not going to happen--ever--but counterproductive--and seek a common ground with pro-choice politicians like Obama who could make a difference in bringing hope to minority women and others. The hopeless who turn to abortion want a future for a child beyond gangs and prison.
