Without Religion, Sarah Palin Has No Future As Leader!

There is no wise governing without right relationship with God, which is religion. Milions of citizens are suffering because of our leaders' stupidity and contempt for God! President Obama, by declaring God's business of killing the unborn "above his pay grade," shows that he is unable to govern. Mrs. Palin must not go his way! Our Nation needs Divinely-inspired leaders, not Blind-Leading-The-Blind! The poor and suffering citizens of these United States, unite! The terminally ill and the desperately poor are wealthy in their cross! That's why I believe, with John Paul II, that suffering is better than money, when it comes to merit. I even advise the terminally ill and the desperately poor, to drop their suffering into the church basket, instead of coins. When attached to the Cross of Christ, their offering is of far greater value than that of those who give millions! As far as "giving more," I agree with you that those who have should give more. But remember that the greatest thing we can offer is not money, but love. This and not "coin" is what the poor widow really gave! She loved God enough to risk her life for Him! That was done out of love! Every good did should be out of love for God, and every act of faith! That was done out of faith as it should be - a faith motivated by the Cross, a faith in the value of the Cross (we discussed this earlier). This was not the "faith" Luther was talking about. This was the poor widow's faith, the Martyrs' faith, Mary's faith! This was pure "works" - works of love for God without which faith is dead!

Colleen of WA: I went to that Website & found no declaration of S. Palin as a candidate for the U.S. Presidency. All I found is her filings in states during the 2008 campaign as McCain's running mate. McCain, of course, was running for President. Maybe your Internet skills are better than mine. I'm not defending Palin; I'm just trying to clarify what you stated. Maybe you can help me.

Palin & Faith

Amendment 1 of the U.S. Constitution: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...." This means the U.S. government has no basis in involving itself in any religious beliefs, or in passing any laws that are due to demands from any religion. Your religion can preach whatever it wants; it will not be the duty of this nation to make it public policy. No governmental endeavor should be controlled by the beliefs of any religion, even if 100% of the population supports a religious belief as public policy. That just ain't the way this country was founded.

Palin & Co. are wise to take a different tack, but with her vacuity of thought, there's not much else she can go on, esp. as a candidate for President of the United States. She could be a Secretary of Energy, but that's debatable.

McCain, not Palin

McCain had already been bitten last March, when he vied for the endorsement of anti-Catholic Texas Pastor Hagee, and then had to repudiate it.

The McCain campaign, like most of the Bush Administration, was eager to use 25 million pro-family and pro-life voters, but it couldn't **stand** them. So it's not surprising that McCain's campaign (run by a bunch of neocon zealots) shut down the religious angle.

At the GOP convention, McCain's staff had Palin cancel a long-standing meeting with pro-family groups. The only meeting they allowed her to have there was with AIPAC, the America-Israel Political Action Committee.

The rest of the campaign was carried on in the same vein.

When I hear any extreme mode of thinking I get a chill, so you're right. If you caught me in a post about why hemp bags will save the world you may have gotten an equally baffled response toward the opposite end of the spectrum.

That being said, in response to this post, I still just think that the distancing is happening because they're trying to have an image overhaul. Certainly, since we have a 2 party system, we're going to be polarized into 2 camps. But that doesn't mean, I rephrase, that shouldn't mean the Republican/Christians vs. Democrat/Atheists. I personally don't give a hoot what anyone believes, as long as A: No one gets hurt B: No one gets brainwashed...which could actually classify as A: and C: No one is oppressed. Ok, so A,B,and C are all the same, u get the picture.

Unfortunately for Christians and Republicans, and I say this in all fairness because I know and love a lot of you, the people that represent you aren't your brightest stars. Palin's silence could be for the best.

Heather, fascism exists on both sides of the aisle. Close mindedness breeds fascism. Close mindedness breeds donkeys and elephants. Close mindedness breeds those who vote ONLY for donkeys or ONLY for elephants. If Obama could do anything greater for this country, it wouldn't be to hastily sign abortion/euthanasia/stem cell special interest promoted material into law. He should be taking a step back, open up HIS OWN mind and figure out how to heal political divisions spawned by close mindedness - not only on life issues but as well as all those less important issues.

If I have a problem with anything, I have a problem with Palin 'feeling' like she can't be a Christian in a political landscape. This is America, NOT the USSR, or China, or the Middle East where Christians are persecuted and sometimes executed. This country, whether liked or not, was founded on Christian principles. These Christian principles inspired the Declaration and gave meat to the Constitution. Those two documents allow you to freely express your feelings and give you the opportunity to live here. Ironic, isn't it? So Mr. NoName from Florida, we aren't all idiots. You live in a country where some of them were just smart enough to found this place you call home.

Christians themselves are to blame for this intolerant mess the media spews forth and the mindless drones who listen to it all due to Christians having half-hearted convictions, tepid faith, dim hope, self love, or combination and sometimes all of the above. It isn't the Christian Faith that's broken, it's us humans practicing it that's broken. All too often what comes out of our Christian mouths is on the average either 5th grade at best or in contrast, so high above everyone's head that not anyone has a prayer in understanding it.

It's time for us as Christians to retreat, prepare by better faith formation, strengthen our hope that Christ will deliver us, increase our love of neighbor and only then return to the ideological battlefront - this time ACTUALLY wearing the Armor of God instead of claiming we do.
