Poll: Most and Least Religious States in the U.S.
By Dan Gilgoff, God & Country
Gallup is out with a fascinating new ranking of the most and least religious states in the nation. The pollster asked 350,000 Americans a simple question: "Is religion an important part of your daily life?"
Here are the ten states where the greatest proportions of people answered "yes" to that question:
85% Mississippi
82% Alabama
80% South Carolina
79% Tennessee
78% Louisiana
78% Arkansas
76% Georgia
76% North Carolina
75% Oklahoma
74% Kentucky
74% Texas
These are the ten states where the smallest proportions of people answered "yes" to that question:
42% Vermont
46% New Hampshire
48% Maine
48% Massachusetts
51% Alaska
52% Washington
53% Oregon
53% Rhode Island
54% Nevada
55% Connecticut
In six of the ten least religious states, majorities still say that religion is an important part of their daily lives. Of ten most religious states, only one went for Barack Obama last November: North Carolina. Of the ten least religious states, just one went for John McCain: Alaska. This is why the Republicans' recent sheepishness on faith and faith-based issues is somewhat perplexing.

Obama's Religious Stance
Of course Obama states that he is religious. What candidate for President can claim otherwise? He would never be elected. Theoretically there is no religious test for public office in this nation (except in Mississippi) but in practice there is. Unlike Chile, for example, where a female agnostic was elected President, a non-believer in mythology in our "secular" is unlikely to be elected to a national office.
This country is not united.
No love here for people who hold "religion" as something important. Christianity has nothing to do with Christ, and if you follow the church you're going to hell. You only need to do a miniscule amount of research to see how horrible, hypocritical, unchrist-like, and downright evil the churches are. Find god for yourself, not through some fallacy-ridden system invented by man.
God bless New England. I can only pray that one day we will not be slaves to the rest of this country filled with ignorant sinners run by the satanic catholic & protestant churches.
Poll
I don't think the numbers are that significant - I would be worried if the Vt, NH, ME and MA were at 10-20%, but they are almost at 50/50.
The top 10 ends at 74% which is only 19% from the CT at 55% - the #10 in the bottom.
I am surprised the top and bottom are so close.
The Pollsters and Politicians will try to make a big thing about this.
And folks like Moon will try to drag down folks who are religious by saying they are uneducated.
I think our new Prez made it quite clear that he IS religious - are you saying something about him? He only graduated from Harvard and married a Princeton grad. Where did you grad from Moon of FL?
SIgned - Religious in Maine
