An unproven theory
DeConick's theory about the translation of the Gospel of Judas is unproved at best, and at worst is really quite erroneous. It is a theory, just like any other translation of an ancient document. "Daimon" may or may not mean spirit, or demon. The NG translators chose "spirit," and noted, in a footnote, that "demon" could be an alternate translation. She is out to sell her book, and more power to her on that, but calling the National Geographic translation "mistaken" is going too far and seems an extraordinary and mean charge to level at her colleagues. One of the NG translators, Dr. Meyer, has answered DeConick's charges quite thoroughly on his website: (http://www.chapman.edu/images/userImages/mattmill/Page_11765/13th_daimon_FINAL-11408.pdf).
