Environmental Justice

This is an example of the right using the environment to put a wedge between two connected movements; environmentalism and social justice. It has been happening for some time and is covertly racist/nationalistic and obscures the far greater source of both inequality and ecological degradation. Garret Hardin's "Lifeboat Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor" and "Tragedy of the Commons" provides ideological and argumentative origins for the argument that Erbe uses. Google these articles, you don't have to change your opinion, but should at least be transparent about it, not pretend like these ideas are your own or ignore the ideological implications of your position.

It is time for them to leave

Lets all convince them to go home. Quit hiring them, do rent to them, contact your government and encourage more laws to make it harder for them to stay.

Costs and Benefits not Equally Distributed

As with most things there are both costs and benefits to massive immigration. Unfortunately they aren't equally shared by all Americans. There was a certain Chicago Sun-Times columnist who used to irk me with his comments about illegals: "We are all children of God ... Just trying to support their families ... Decent people in difficulties.. "

Possibly true. But the columnist in question, while no doubt sincere, didn't have to worry about illegal immigrants using his farmland as a highway to the north. His local hospital wasn't going to shut down for lack of adequate funding. The children in his family weren't going to schools overwhelmed with the difficulties of educating non-English speaking children. He wasn't going to lose his construction job to illegal laborers.

His personal share of the immigration situation was cheap food on his table, lower housing costs and a cozy sense of moral superiority. All gain, no pain from his perspective.

Immigration

We need many millions more in population so we can stop hearing that we have only 5% of the world's population, but use 25% of the world's resources. This statistic neglects that the US produces 20 to 25% of the world's economic activity. It also probably neglects the resources the US produces and the resources the US helped other nations to develop.

Yes to Harold-illegal means unlawful means crime

We get almost no value for taxes spent to catch and punish illegal immigrants. The problem is that most of them come from Ban=Abortion nations like Mexico, the Phillipines, Guam and other places where Catholics are the biggest part of the population and where civil law still enforces that part of the Code of Canon law that says abortion and suicide are crimes. The church says they're "crimes" because they mean one less person who pays ten per cent tithe to clerics. Many illegals come from Islamic nations where clerics like the fact that four wives at a time can produce lots of tithers. People reading my comments know I emphasize the huge cash value of the tithe, but it cannot be ignored. There was excellent news in 2008 when Mexico City LEGALIZED ABORTION. This not a state problem because people move--it's in the area of federal jurisdiction. Local police must be authorized to find and arrest illegals. Bounties are paid to find other crooks--why not illegal immigrants? A friend worked in a distribution center. She said it was easy to spot illegals because most speak little or no English. Raids on big warehouses for forklift operators and stockers can pay off.

Yes to Mitchell, limiting reproduction

Ban-Abortion churches own stock in companies and want to make more profit by keeping labor cheap, by way of COMPULSORY FATHERHOOD. They do this by preaching to Ban-Abortion lawmakers and giving money to get them elected. They want Ban-Abortion judges. Each conception has potential to be a person who pays a lifetime tithe of ten percent. Do not abort potential tithers, is the Pro-Life message. People who have no children or one or two are not likely to be starving and poor. invested churches want lots of consumers, even if they exist because of rape or incest. Yes, give to NARAL and PLANNED PARENTHOOD. Demand tax-funded abortion clinics in every county in easy reach of MEN and women who use them. Too long, pregnancy in a teen has meant "getting the girl in trouble." It means getting the environment in trouble if she's forced to be a mother. To decrease illegal immigration, fine employers $10,000 for each one as soon as the crime is exposed, and double it for every day the illegal stays on the job. Ban-Abortion illegals are sending money as tithes to clerics in their homelands.

Deport all European "Illegals"

Yes, we can't afford the whole global population move in in to this nation, but we must be honest

that immigration is triggered by global economy and social inequality and injustice set up by rich nations apartheid, exploitative, imperialistic and hypocrite policies.

On what rights we can justify to restrict the global poor people to better themselves by selling their labor, goods and services

anywhere in this planet for better rewards just because we hate to compete with them ???

Rich nations are often the biggest offenders of crimes against humanity

in forms of destruction of the environment by over consumption and greed, imperialism and colonialism in the past and present in different forms (eg. through their Multinational Corporations).

If the TRUE NATIVE AMERICANS who came here 8000 years earlier than any WHITE EUROPEANS demanded that all Americans of other than true Natives origins and all of their descendants must be deported to Europe or wherever their ancestors might come, how you guys will react here ?

Talking about PROTECTING ENVIRONMENT, it's a good idea that the author of this article

Ms. Bonnie Erbe should give an excellent examples by giving up driving and start taking public transit, try to downsize her McMansion which consumes so much energy to maintain, cool and heat it.

It's not immigrants who destroy the environment it's greedy Americans who do it.

We consume 25 % of world resources and energy and yet we are only 5 % of global population.

Stop finger pointing and acting holier than thou.

Stop talking about "sanctity of marriage" and "family values" when ones cheat on their spouse and becomes the joke of the day.

Stop taking the rights of same sex couple to marry and make a lifetime vow of mutual love and commitments while ones are in fact no less sinful than others.

I am tired of all hypocrisy on all our political landscapes, immigration, social issues etc.

Duhhh..........

Kudos

Bravo, Bonnie, for daring to stand up and take a position that is sure to draw ire and get you painted with a black brush. But it's taking a big-picture, long-term view of the impacts of an open borders policy.

We cannot possibly accommodate the billion hungry people on the planet who might like to move to the U.S. for economic opportunity. And we do no favors to other nations when we import their most ambitious so we'll have a cheap unskilled (or even skilled) labor force. We do immigrants no favor when we exploit them by paying them too little, separate them from their families, and over the long haul condone a system that delays development of higher quality of life in their home nations.

We do the citizens of the world no favors when we import people with small ecological footprints and turn them into super-consuming Americans. And finally, if we won't begin adopting sustainable population policies at national levels, exactly who is going start taking some responsibility for overpopulation?

Does not ILLEGAl mean not confirming to, or against the law ? People intering this Country without permission are Illeagals.

Each and everyone doing so should be given one year at hard labor for first offence and deported, secound time, life at hard labor.
