David Letterman Owes Palin and All Thinking Americans an Apology

Bitter Man
Letterman used to be entertaining many years ago. He's now a neo political pundit that only caters to a select group that wants to hear republican bashing instead of real comedy. Its time a real comedian takes over the reigns late nite. His one sided point of view is not funny and it shows. The younger crowd that he's lost, wants to have a laugh, not a political diatribe by a has been talk show host thats out of touch. Is it any wonder that he lost the Tonight Show to Leno years ago? Nobody wants to listen to his crap.
Gorby -- Palin's still a jerk, and Bristols lesson
Gorby: "Billy, Do you have kids?"
No.
"I'm just asking, because if someone said something like that about one of my daughters, I would have punched his lights out"
Let me direct your attention to the fact that you're not a nationally-recognized politician. Do you think that might make the tiniest bit of difference whether the public says things about your kids (especially those of legal age, which is what Dave thought he was doing) that might offend you, but which you'd have to put up with?
"You're letting your blind hatred for Palin interfere with your cognitive skills."
It's not blind, and I don't hate her. My opinion's based on evidence. I felt positively toward her until she ripped out that cheap "pedophile" insinuation and then tried to back away from the consequences -- yet without denying it -- when confronted about it. She's revealed herself to be mean, sneaky, AND a coward. If Letterman didn't have better things to do he could have her defending herself in court for insinuating he's a pedophile...you must be aware that any tiny whiff of that, even unsubstantiated, can destroy a career, and Palin just pulled it right out of the slimebucket and threw it when she got mad. Nor has she retracted it or clarified that OF COURSE she didn't mean that -- she just lets it sit out there, doing its damage, while trying to pretend she's not responsible.
"So, if you think she was a bitch for responding the way she did, I'd ask you to reflect upon how you'd have responded if it was your daughter/sister/mother/wife."
If my d/s/w were a campaigning politician, or in one's immediate family, I'd shrug it off just like Palin should have.
I wonder how many people reading this are aware that "Bristol" is Cockney rhyming slang for "boob", as in "nice pair of Bristols there" ("Bristol City = "titty")? Sometimes thing just work out perfectly, don't they?
Bonnie and Billy
Bonnie,
I'm worried about you. In one column you fear that D.Cheney wishes for America to be attacked and then in another you write a completely sane piece about the Letterman/Palin scuff up.
Billy,
Do you have kids? I'm just asking, because if someone said something like that about one of my daughters, I would have punched his lights out because it was certainly not, "...a little over the line...". I'll give Letterman the benefit of the doubt that he didn't know that first night that it was Willow at the game, not Bristol (who didn't even go to NY), but by the second night it was common knowledge and still he thought it more appropriate to throw another sleazy remark about trying to keep Eliot Spitzer off of Palin's daughter (Bristol?). So, then once the outrage begins and sponsors start getting antsy, Letterman makes an explanation, but no apology (were either 'sorry' or 'apologize' uttered that first night...no.). One sponsor confirms that they pull their sponsorship, and then the next night Letterman actually apologizes. Now, Letterman's attitude towards women not withstanding, I think he *actual* apology was sufficient and acceptable, but he certainly NEVER held the high ground regardless of what Palin said or did. You're letting your blind hatred for Palin interfere with your cognitive skills. So, if you think she was a bitch for responding the way she did, I'd ask you to reflect upon how you'd have responded if it was your daughter/sister/mother/wife.
Letterman
He needs more than a new writer-he needs a new job.
IMUS AND LETTERMAN
I think everyone is forgetting that Don Imus lost his TV show after making a crude remark about a women's basketball team. And he also apologized. If you feel Letterman should be booted out on his gap-toothed butt, start boycotting his sponsors. I'll guarantee results on that.Precedent has been set.Letterman has to go.
Up with Letterman, down with Palin
Well, Bonnie, you got your apology (assuming you're a thinking American). Happy?
True, Letterman went a little over the line in his joke. However, he was a gentleman and addressed it TWICE on the show -- once to clarify what he meant and once to apologize for it anyway, and did both quite sincerely. On the other hand, Palin showed herself to be a b**ch and a coward, who, first, deliberately took the cheap shot of insinuating Dave is a pedophile ( http://tinyurl.com/ks48e8 ), and then tried to dodge and deny the consequences when she was called on it. Until she apologizes for this crack and her subsequent weasling, Dave has the moral high ground, hands down.

Bravo Bonnie Erbe!
I could not agree more. This kind of bad taste deserves calling out.
Pale-in is a total JOKE to begin with
Who would even give this sorry excuse of a governor any creditability in the first place is beyond me! It’s bad enough she runs he own family like a WASH state commune where her own daughters are getting knocked up out of wedlock, but then to go on stage as America’s MOM of choice? Are you INSANE or what? Why not just have another WOODSTOCK FEST inside the White House and invite all of America’s Hippies and Druggies as well. Makes about as much sense doesn’t it? That’s the kind of family values I want sitting in the White House? I DON’T THINK SO! She is so far detached from American values that a MOOSE would be a better choice as a ROLE MODEL. Bad enough that she ran on the McLame ticket to start with (actually turned out to be a blessing for Obama though!), but to still have to hear her name again or see her in any limelight just makes my stomach turn all over again, which btw her running was a JOKE right from the start to begin with. How anyone could feel sorry for her worthless values is beyond me, and then to demand that David Letterman has to apologize to the likes of her? - I doubly DON’T THINK SO! I don’t think Letterman went far enough if you ask me! But - like everything else wrong with the dysfunctional GOP party I’m sure we’ll see Newt the Fruit Gingrich and Rush Lameburger running on the same ticket next Prez election run. Wanna bet any money on it? Oh ya - and Sarah Pale-in for Sec of State….the laughs just keep coming don’t they?
Letterman Only Professes to Tell Jokes, But Palin is the Bigger Joke
Raw humor is the bread and butter of late night shows and if you don't like, don't watch.
Letterman doesn't need to apologize to anyone.
Palin on the other hand has been using her children as props for her own publicity and has only proved herself as the epitome of a terrible parent. When she started bringing onstage her pregnant unwed teenage daughter, she injected her kids into the public discussion of our hardball political arena. As a parent I'm disgusted by Palin seems to take pride in being a bad parent, thinking she is role model mother - WRONG. Sister Sarah almost seems like promotion of of sex, booze and drugs among teens that she apparently let her kids do. By comparison, Letterman is a mature adult.
As Palin continues to wage her political career in the scandal tabloids, it confirms that she wasn't qualified as a candidate in the last election, and never worthy of being a heart beat away from the presidency.
America deserves an apology from Sen McCain for putting her on his ticket, which I am sure he is privately doing every day.
Letterman
Don't worry the first time Letterman shows up at the race track there will be a confrontation with someone. Letterman has lost it, most comedians have lost it. You have to bash someone to be funny. I don't think so. If you want to make fun of yourself that's fine. If you want to make fun about a particular race it seems to be OK as long as the race your making fun of is white. There are very few good comedians anymore. If you have to attack someone to be funny find another line of work! Letterman's remarks were totally out of line and CBS should do something about it. I think it is as bad or maybe worse than Nappy Headed Hoes! Just goes to show the double standard here in American, money vs no money.Letterman makes it for CBS so what are they going to do, NOTHING.People are getting fed up there are storm clouds on the horizon!
