Horse Slaughter

Horses are being starved and abandoned by families with no money in record numbers. There are no options for these horses. It costs over $500.00 to have them put down and disposed of, so they are left to starve. Perhaps one of your loved ones will hit one that someone has let out of their pastures due to high feed, no value for resale, (down now by over 200%) and no available slaughter. These are not furry little kitties we are talking about.

The horses in the auction noted here, without that auction, will be left to simply starve to death in a back lot by their owners, who probably can barely feed themselves. Which is the better death-a shot, or slow, painful starvation?

If slaughter is eliminated and horses are indeed to be viewed as pets, not livestock, than the American taxpayer had better be ready to belly up to horse pounds like those available to cats and dogs, for all the very high costs involced with such an operation.

I am a 30+ year horse owner and currently have 20 head here, most of which are rescues. I can take no more. In our state it has gotten so bad, that if you take your horse our for a trail ride by trailering in, you need to chain your trailer shut, lest you find someone else's abandoned horses in your trailer when you return. I hope that you others who are so anti-slaugher also have actual experience in the horse industry.

End horse slaughter

hi, im molly and i live in mustang ok. I may only be 11 but i agree horse slaughter should not be allowed at all, any where.

I think people are over breeding and its getting pretty bad.

I'm sick of how people slaughter horses in canada and mexico its just WRONG and Un humaine I'm going to try and stop horse slaughter everywhere. So Obama if you are reading this horses mean a lot to me and im sick of horse slaughter so please try to stop horse slaughter every where please.

real problem is overbreeding

--not fast enough, etc, they're excess, and they fall into a zone where the economy limits personal ownership

US Horse Meat is Illegal for Human Consumption

1) There is no "lack" of slaughter. 134,000 American horses were slaughtered for human consuption in Canada and Mexico in 2008 -- JUST AS MANY as were slaughtered when the three foreign-owned horse slaughterhouses were operating in the US in 2006. People blaming horse neglect and abandonment on "lack" of horse slaughter need to get their facts straight.

2) Horses are not raised or medicated as food animals. About 70% of currently legal horse medications are ILLEGAL (e.g. carcinogenic) to be used in food animals or have never been tested in humans because they were never meant to be ingested. According to our own food laws and the EU food laws, slaughtering horses for food is absolutely ILLEGAL. Check the USDA Red Books. The violations are clear.

3) Congress banned tax payer dollars or industry-paid dollars being used for USDA inspectors for horse meat for human consumption. This was passed in 2007 and is in effect today. This means that if any state were to build a horse slaughterhouse, the meat could not be shipped outside of that state.

Stop the Torturous Murder of Horses

WOW you MO people really do hate horses. You got your bill passed, why so hateful to horses? And please quit calling it harvesting to soften the sound of the torturous murder of horses. Slaughter is slaughter so call it that. Americans do not eat horse nor do our pets but thanks to Rep.Sue Wallis the hungry of the world will. OH please! The slaughter of horses, even when the slaughter houses were running, was not humane, just look at the 900 page FOIA Report from the USDA at this site, http://www.kaufmanzoning.net/. Vets and inspectors never even reported babies being born on the kill floor, so you can't tell me it was well regulated. Horses would be made to stand in line and watch as the horse in front of them was struck, blow after blow with a bolt gun. Try putting your hand over a horses head and see how many let you do that. The AVMA says that the bolt gun in the hands of an experienced killer must be laid flat on the skull of a horse in order for it work the way it was designed for cattle. Slaughter is not humane euthanasia. Call your US Representatives and tell them you vote YES for HR 503 and HR 305. And tell your Senators to vote YES on S 727.

End Horse Slaughter

Who are earth would eat a sick horse? What kind of meat would a sick and old horse be able to give, no less taste like?

Get real, the sad part is the vast number of horses going to slaughter are foals and yearlings that have been fatten for food in Europe and Japan. The number one horse for meat are quarter horses due to its meat content which is at least 30% to 40% less than what a cow gives. Think of the number of horses that would need to be bred and killed to meet the same amount of meat that a cow gives.

No horse meat is not the better red meat, it is the cruel and inhumane way to end a horses life. We are talking about apples and oranges when it come to meat and feeding people.

Only a handful of states and pro-slaughter people are demanding that horse slaughter be started up again within the American borders. They are out of step with the nation in the attitude and will of the people.

Please support HR 503 and S 727.

Ho to end horse slaughter

Attention true horse lovers while we are fighting to end horse slaughter by the passage of H R 503, cattle producers want the following bills passed so they can continue to pollute our air with greenhouse gas from their cattle and then be exempt from paying the greenhouse gas emission tax that all other business will have to pay. We need to get everyone involved to vote against these bills. they want a free pass to pollute and kill our horses I say no to both and it is high time to fight back lets see how much horse slaughter is worth to them.

Contact your congressmen and senators let them know to vote for the quick passage of H R 503 and against H R 1438 and S 527. Remember it only takes one sympathetic senator to block their bills just as Conrad Burns blocked our bill last year. The pro slaughter associations need to know that as long as they oppose a horse slaughter ban we will oppose any bill they want passed. Let’s see how much money we can cost them; what will they be willing to pay to continue horse slaughter. The cattle associations are also against S 22 so urge your senators to cosponsor this bill as well.

end it

horse slaughter is not importent to our livestaock. ending a horses life for meat is not right. if people breed just to slaughter then people should just stop breeding. there should be a track law. this law in my oppinion should be that you hust tack your horse home after a race. you can not leave them on the track.

Unwanted Horses on the rise

Ok folks, the way I see it farm animals are humanely slaughtered. But now it's illegal for horses to be slaughtered for consumption. That sets them apart from other farm animals and now puts the horse in the pet category. Dogs and cats are pets. People take unwanted pets to the Humane Society. Seems to me unwanted horses need to be taken to the Humane Society, too. The Humane Society helped in establishing the unwanted horse problem by lobbying certain causes, let them be part of the solution. Wow! If only the HSUS would have bought barns and pastures instead of all those lobbiests, there might have been possible resolutions to helping with the unwanted horse problems that are developing as we speak!
