horse slaughter

Chickens, cows, pigs were made to be slaughtered for us to eat. Horses were bred to do so much more. If it werent for horses the world would be nowhere. Horses carried us everywhere pulled wagons etc. They deserve to stay alive and not be slaughter for the chinks to eat.

Slaughter

Your just trying to make us pay more taxes to save a horse, Its ok to slaughter cows and chickens for you to eat but what gives you the right to force other people to live the way you want to live? If someone liked cat meat...just because I dont doesnt give me the right to say they cant...right? The only people that need to be controled are these animal activists! Quit trying to control and force everyone to be like you....get a real life, hopefully out of america! People like you have made america not a free country anymore, our freedom has been removed a long time ago, so quit saying america is a free country....thats only good for these illegal immagrants!

Slaughter and Concern

What is the underlying issue of the article and the comments which follow? While there will be disagreement about this, I think the fundamental concern should be the prevention of pain, regardless of which animal in involved. Perhaps humans have a greater understanding of pain than other mammals, and suffer more as a result, but we can only speculate on this. Also, it's natural for us to feel more compassion with certain animals than others when pain is involved, but this is only because we consider certain animals as pets, or as friends, in the case of horses. It stands to reason that if we can feel compassionate toward the pain of pets and horses, then we should be able to go a step farther and feel some empathy with the pain we cause to other animals.

I appreciate this article and the comments made. Even if there is disagreement, this is so much better than simply ignoring the issue.

Response to comment by Ryan, Texas

Hi Ryan, I want to thank you for reading the above article and responding. You asked; "do these people think before they speak or type?"

Many of us have been actively involved in exhaustive efforts to save horses from slaughter for what seems a lifetime...myself, for 7-8yrs. Others much longer. It's not a matter of what is more important-this is not about abortion vs. horse slaughter. Many activists have dual roles Ryan..many work equally hard for different causes. Your comment indicates passion for change; to protect those unable to speak for themselves..not unlike us.

Kindest Regards, S. Murphy, Prescott Arizona

Save the horses

Absolutely amazing the rationalization of some minds. The horses are being slaughtered so we must save them immediately. Yet, millions of unborn babies are slaughtered every year, but that's okay??? Do these people actually think before they speak or type?

Caring owners?

Ummm, so what about cows and pigs and chickens? Should we egulate and prevent the breeders from producing more of them than there are caring owners?

I'm not saying that animals should be mistreated, but this article is going a bit beyond that scope.

Lets take some action!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok i agree with most of you i love horses as much as the next person and i want to save them. Horses have been around for billions of years but if we don't start taking a stand they won't be around for future generations to enjoy as much as we have.

Its true that people are dropping them off and just leaving but wouldn't you have a horse that is alive and well for the natural beauty instead of them suffering in a slaughter house?

I know that just me a 14 year old couldn't do much in helping save the unwanted horses but if people take more of a stand in helping stop horse slaughter we WILL STOP THEM ONCE AND FOR ALL. And for anyone who reads this i am getting on here everyday to see if people really believe what i believe.

LETS GETERDONE

barbaric methods of horse sluaghter

A short time ago I stumbled upon a utube posting from 2007 that I just could not believe. I thought this must be a mistake and that all was now sorted Im not naive, I know that at times in life stuff happens that most of us would like to think doesnt happen, but it does. If you own horses you know that. But there is a differance between a humane death and the Barbaric destruction that these poor animals have to endure. Ive seen the footage of the animals in Mexico being stabbed in the withersubsequently leaving them suffocating and hung by a leg, still conscious, then slit whilst still alive. Thier treatment in transit and whilst awaiting their fate in the killing pens equally abhorent. These animals do have feelings including fear and pain. How do these slaughters sleep at night. Morever how can America be part of this savage trade. Ghandi said you can tell how far a country has come by the way it treats its animals. I was always in awe of America. America is the country that everybody else wants to be. No matter what else they might say. I know there are countless numbers of good American people who are working hard to make sure the right thing is done. These animals only have you to stand up for them. Thank god they have. Its not so much the slaughter, I know there are hard times for many poor families in America. The hardest pill to swallow is the thought that even in these bad times they dont even deserve one bullet. Please to all the like minded people in the States There are people all around the world who are with you. Good luck

RE: Peta=pish/pash

There is no horse meat in pet food. Just thought you should know.

Horse Slaughter

Horses are being starved and abandoned by families with no money in record numbers. There are no options for these horses. It costs over $500.00 to have them put down and disposed of, so they are left to starve. Perhaps one of your loved ones will hit one that someone has let out of their pastures due to high feed, no value for resale, (down now by over 200%) and no available slaughter. These are not furry little kitties we are talking about.

The horses in the auction noted here, without that auction, will be left to simply starve to death in a back lot by their owners, who probably can barely feed themselves. Which is the better death-a shot, or slow, painful starvation?

If slaughter is eliminated and horses are indeed to be viewed as pets, not livestock, than the American taxpayer had better be ready to belly up to horse pounds like those available to cats and dogs, for all the very high costs involced with such an operation.

I am a 30+ year horse owner and currently have 20 head here, most of which are rescues. I can take no more. In our state it has gotten so bad, that if you take your horse our for a trail ride by trailering in, you need to chain your trailer shut, lest you find someone else's abandoned horses in your trailer when you return. I hope that you others who are so anti-slaugher also have actual experience in the horse industry.
