Hurricanes are caused by mother nature. The failed response was perpetuated from the local level, through the state level way before the federal response was even asked for! Global warming? There IS NO GLOBAL WARMING! Latest report released this week shows arctic sea ice at 1978 levels! There are 5x as many polar bears now than back then too! Like the ozone hole scare, this is just conjured up to allow governments to tax us! That's all Keyoto was about! Taxes! Countries paying carbon taxes! Unless you are China that is! They are the worlds worst polluters by the way!

"The threat of 9/11 ignored"? HUH? What has happened since then that I missed? Have we been attacked? Didn't we liberate Afghanistan from those thugs? Yeh we will be mopping up for a while but the few that are left are NO THREAT! The rise of Iran? What have they done to "rise" beside talk a lot of BS? The UN is doing the same job keeping them from building nukes as they did with Saddam. And speaking of Saddam....

Iraq wasn't hyped, the UN BLEW IT by letting Saddam off the hook with 17 toothless resolutions! Bush did the right thing by not waiting any longer for the UN and ousting him! History will bare that out! Don't forget all the people cheering in the streets after we drove Saddam quite literally, into a hole in the ground! Shredded civil rights? Oh! You mean the international wire tapping? That's a far cry from what the military sensors did in WWII! You have the historical perspective of a flea! Guantánamo and Abu Ghraib? I could care less! Funny how no country wants to take these bastards huh? I know the families of the 3000 people killed on 911 would love a few minutes alone with these guys! I know I would and I never lost a loved one!

Lest you think Obama will be a change, he's already lining up all the old Clinton zombies and those were the people that pissed off the Muslims enough to attack us in the first place! Bush was only in office for less that 8 months when we were attacked FOR THE SECOND TIME! The first time was in 1993 when they tried to blow up the trade center from the basement! Why didn't Clinton get Osama then? He had 3 chances where he was practically handed to him! Or have you forgotten?

During the Civil War, there were plenty of people that blamed Lincoln for the whole mess, just as people today blame bush for the problems of today. This was approved by the house and senate majority and minority leaders as well as Bush and Cheney. They all agreed unanimously not to vote on it in the house and senate. So that is Bushes fault?

"The rise of Iran" What do you want Bush to do? If he goes after a dictator, he gets hammered on by the press. If he uses diplomacy, he still gets hammered on by the press. What do you want?

"Global warming" is the biggest scam of all time. There is no scientific evidence that supports this. Look at where a lot of the weather stations are that record temperature. They are in town around concrete. In the last two years the temp has been going down, not up. More evidence points to a normal cycle. But one can't blame a Republican on that.

The economic disaster was caused in part by Dem policy. Clinton and Carter both encouraged lending to minorities that are not able to pay back the loans. It shouldn't take a econ. major to figure out the problem there.

Obama is surrounded by coruption. He still won't show his birth cirtificate. What is he hiding? Talk about ignoring the constitution. What about the gun laws he wants to pass. More ignoring of the constitution. H. Clinton is not allowed to take the Sec of State job per the constitution, but is anyone in the press saying anything about that? Biden doesn't even know the duties of a vice press. He proved that on a debate.

It is funny how you mentioned Germany in you article. Obama's rise to power greatly resembles Hitler's.

Everything is Bush's Fault? What are the great civil liberties that have been lost during the last 8 years? I keep hearing this BS about our civil liberties are being taken away by those racsally Republicans, but never any specifics. They always point to the PATRIOT act, yet still I don't see anyone stopping you from printing your mindless Democrats can do wrong, Republicans are evil tripe. What, you have to show some photo ID before boarding an airplane? Oh, the humanity!

Has it even occurred to you that provisions in that dreaded PATRIOT act are what has kept Islamic Goons from strapping bombs to themselves and blowing up the local Starbuck's?

Clearly Barack Obama is the better choice? How so, Bonnie? He has never done anything other than get elected to public office. He has never run a business, he has never managed anything, he has never made a payroll. The only thing he does well is make speeches, as long as there's a telepromter working. We has seen what a flub-a-dub he is without the machine showing him what word to say. Perhaps good speaking skills is all that Democrats need to be qualified in your mind. Ol' Bill Clinton could sure talk a good game, but his governance left a lot to be desired.

I'll tell you what's going to happen when PEBO becomes POTUSBO. He is going to go through with his promise of raising taxes on the "rich" people making more than $250,000 per year and that is going couse my employer to throw up his hands and cease operations. He has over 100 leased contractors and only 7 company trucks. He makes 12% pure profit from the leased contractors with zero risk or tax consequences other than income tax. The 7 company owned trucks will cost more than he'll make with them and they will go to auction. That along with the higher fuel costs on the horizon when the Democrat congress and POTUSBO reinstate the offshore drilling bans will put our whole economy into a tailspin.

I hope we can hang on until the 2010 elections to put the brakes on this guy and then restore proper government in 2012. I also hope we can put more election reforms in place that will make it more difficult for the stupid among us to cast any votes for anyone anywhere. We don't need everyone voting if this is the best that can be elected.

Bush & Co. were warned of 9/11 & Katrina-- and on both occasions Bush went on vacation. Bush took a budget surplus and ran up a $10 trillion deficit and oversaw a $100 trillion destruction of wealth.

The Bush propaganda machine continues to lie. My two favorites are: "No one could of predicted this debacle..." WRONG-- thousands of economists predicted devastation, for example Krugman, who won a Nobel, and Greenspan who spoke about the housing bubble six years ago.

The second great lie: "There hasn't been another terrorist attack since 9/11-- Bush kept us safe." Wasn't the anthrax since 9/11? I’d call that a terrorist attack.

But for you neo-cons & free-marketers, nothing is more important than low taxes. But since 2000, my money lost half it’s value. The euro was 80 cents. Then it was a $1.50. That's nearly double. Gas didn't go to $4, it went to $2 & the dollar went to 50 cents. So if you had $100,000 in the bank, now it buys $50,000 worth. I call that the biggest tax hike in history. (Just think about the inflation food housing (& energy till the crash)

And "Free Markets" do not exist. Markets have an infrastructure we commonly call "rules." Markets can't exist without regulations like contracts, currency & oversight. We learned this in the 1930s.

The purpose of a free market is to promote competition & create wealth. But competition is stifled by monopoly, duopoly and oligopoly. You must regulate (not free) the market to have competition. And clearly our unregulated market has destroyed massive wealth.

But clearly Bush's worst legacy was to place the presidency above the law and congress, destroy oversight/checks-&-balances, and create a culture of division and fear.

I just don't understand why Americans wouldn't you want their leaders accountable? Why don't we want to prosecute criminal politicians & CEOs? Why not?

If Nixon went to jail, we wouldn't have had Iran-Contra. If the Iran-Contras went to jail, we wouldn't have had Bush. And not prosecuting Bush means we will have our next debacle in 15 years.

So to R.L. Schaefer of CA, I say you enabled treason and now only defend Bush because you can't admit you own mistake and responsibility electing Bush. You can't admit you were wrong. And to those who don't learn from mistakes, you will repeat them.

But please, is it necessary to drag the rest of your neighbors down with you?

To everyone else, please let’s unite—let’s get past the “me” culture and get to the “we.” Get involved. Run for office, join the school board. Call your congressman. Get educated. Go on strike. Unite and love your neighbor, even if they are different than you.

Republican's bound to fail by a Democrat congress and you all are falling for the scam. If the opposing conflict between Democrat and Republican views had not been the driving force behind George W. Bush's 'failures' - if everyone had been involved harmoniously in the issues of the day instead of bickering over the rights of various whims of self interest - the deriding of President Bush and his efforts to keep us free and safe could have made our lives these past eight years much easier and much less costly. The incoming President has a job (by the way, it is a job - not a dispensation) to not only fix the problems his own party has caused and blamed the Republicans for, but his job is to bring us together to make good of a country we all have trashed.
