The McCain-Palin Rift

October 28, 2008 03:27 PM ET | Bonnie Erbe | Permanent Link | Print

The election's a week away, and the McCain campaign is burying itself before the electorate has a chance to do so. Could McCain's bid turn out to be the worst-run campaign in American presidential history?

It's certainly gunning for the honor. Read on, dear reader, George Stephanopoulos's take:

Palin is going to be the most vivid chapter of the McCain campaign's post-mortem.

McCain argued Monday that he "couldn't be more proud" of his running mate.

However, there is a significant rift inside the McCain campaign.

Those loyal to McCain believe they have been unfairly blamed for over-handling Palin. They say they did the best they could with what they got.... The Palin camp is fighting back, arguing that if the McCain campaign had just let Sarah Palin be Sarah Palin, she would have done just fine on her own.

ABC News goes on to report that staffers in the McCain campaign are already sending out résumés. What's the matter with these people? Can't they wait a week? Their actions show they have no faith that being members of the GOP elite gives them a financial shield against the Bush recession.
