Despite Sympathy for Barack Obama's Grandmother, He's Still Wrong on Wright
Reader Comments
You all are stupid this is why...
My best friend cheats on her husband, and I do not like this, but she also has done 1000 other good things. Are you all OCD? We are adults and have the ability to filter out the bad things from the good. Isn't that what we do at every election??? Weigh good and bad and decide who has more good? Because NO POLITICIAN is completely perfect. WE R HUMANS and we screw up.
You can be a total LOSER for 40 years and in your last 5 do things most people only dream of for the good of all the people. Stop the HATE, the "Perfectionist" "Nazi" idealism ...cuz there is NO PERFECT PERSON.
Obamas grandmother has nothing to do with the issues she does however have everything to do with the man he has become. She surely didn't mean to die the night before he is elected president. If you think people are going to vote out of sympathy and ignore the issues and principals that this election has raised you are as out of touch as John McCain.I happen to think that Obama is a practical thinker that wants the middle class to finally get a break.I can't worry about what his minister espouses.Who knows what anyones minister believes or says. Most of us don't care. Being a senior citizen I look to the future for my grandchildren and feel strongly that they need to be led in a new and different direction so they can some day obtain the American Dream !
Narrow Mindedness and Right Winged Rigidity are the Real Terrorists
This type of rhectoric is "more of the same" smear tactics and misinterpretation that has marked and continues to mark the McCain Palin ticket and thinking. It is disgusting, based on the timing of Barack Obama's grief over his grandmother's illness and the lack of real understanding of the nuances of his speech at that time. Those who are truly informed and have kept up to date on the issue with the Reverend Wright know that his statements were condemned by Obama. Obviously, this is a desperate move which mars both the reputation of US News and World Report, the reporter, and further damages whatever good is left of the Republican Party. I for one am SICK SICK SICK of these types of attacks, especially when we are a country and world in crisis and in extreme need of a brilliant leader such as Obama. McCain has sold his soul to the devil, and willingly so, just to be elected, and risk the entire country and world with his totally inept choice for the VP candidate. As one who once respected McCain, I can say that he has gone beyond any redeemable point, and the world will celebrate once the election is over and we have Barack Obama at the helm.
Still talking about reverand wright?
What is wrong you people? You maintain that Rev. Wright is an issue, but I just think thats all you have. The notion that you could compare a white candidate in a white centrist church with Barack Obama attending Rev. Wright's church is ludicrous. For starters white people have been on top in this country since Andrew Jackson heartlessly douped and eliminated the last remnants of the Sioux nation. Black culture is born from the pain, degredation and humiliation of 401 years of black oppression in this country, which has just begun to dissapate in the last 60 years or so. To suggest that a white man who belongs to a Euro-centric church dedicated to blind hatred is the same as a black man who belongs to a church which represents the struggle to maintain cultural identity, and is coping with anger over wrong doings still perpetrated by white America, is absolutely ignorant. Its not the same thing and its not comparable. I am curious about something though... so many people seemed so shocked at what rev. Wright was saying, but I listened to the soundbites and I didn't here anything that black people in this country haven't been saying for decades. Do you actually know any black people? I mean actually have real black friends, not just co-workers or aquantances? No? Then how do you feel you are equiped to judge black culture? The great anthropologist Franz Boaz educated an entire generation of anthropologists on the idea that you cannot judge anothers culture through your own cultural context. To do so is ethno-centrism and is without meaning. The real shame here is that Obama had to denounce his reverand to appeal to the ignorant masses of uneducated America.
to Joe of AL
You say that Obama doesn't share those extreme views; he has condemned them and that it's possible for people to have friends with opposing viewpoints. My question is this -- does Obama have any friends who don't agree with the likes of Ayers, Wright,et al? Most of his affiliations have been with radicals. I find that very disturbing!
Rev. Wright and Sen. Obama
Thank you for your article which hold common sense, which the major media and others are not using when it come to Sen. Obama. It really upset me when evidently Sen. Obama thinks we do not have a brain to figure out that he was very close to the Rev Wright and in his book honored him. How could he sit and listed to this man preaching to disown the U.S.? If this disgusted him he should have left immediately, let alone, honor him in his book. Why does Sen. Obama refuse to salute the flag and our national anthem? What hold does he have over the Major Media that they do not press him regarding so many areas, including the complete medical records, college transcripts, his thesis and many other piece of info regarding his Senate calendar and many other document he is not producing. If it were any other candidate they would be on his tail continuously, just as they are for Gov Palin and as they were for Sen Hilary Clinton and Sen. McCain. We need to seek God's help for our country because we certainly need to remember God is our Foundation and hopefully his Graces will flow, so that our country will proper. Thank you.
Ah, that's Just Silly
Puh-leaze. To parse words, as I am wont to do, I couldn't help but notice this lady wrote that Obama's granmama should not be "excused" for her transgression whereas Obama is not to be "forgiven" his. I just happen to find that interesting because the latter act (not forgiving) is much graver than the former (not excusing).
I'll tell you what's unforgivable, is espousing the belief of Jeremiah Wright, not so much attending the church. The important thing is whether or not he believes that stuff, and
given his relatives, colleagues, and moderate viewpoints and temperament, I'd say all evidence points to the contrary.
R.I., You say a White candidate wouldn't have got away with this and you're right! But, let me ask this. Were White people every beat for being White? Did White people every have dogs turn on them? Did White people every drive down a dirt road and see their people hanging in a tree? Did White people have crosses burned in their yards? Those thing weren't fair to us, and there not easy to forget. Though I don't condone or agree with Rev. Wright said, you have to realize he grew up a black man being hated by White society simply because of the color of his skin. Wouldn't you have some hate in your heart to a race that did those things and more to your people? And thought he's a preacher, he's still human. Most odler Blacks hate because of what was done to them, but most older White hate, simply because of color. Though all hate is wrong, which of those seems more justified???
Obama's Grandmother - Permission to Include in Book
If anyone thinks he is religious and not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless James 1:26
Christians are called to love their neighbor as themselves. Remember what the Bible says about treatment of people that you perceive to be enemies. I do not find any love in the article
Rev Wright's sermons were not anti-American, racist, or anti-Semitic - listen to the entire sermons. Wright's G** D*** was in a sermon against the Iraq war, against the Bush administration, not the American people http://tinyurl.com/4x52to
“War does not make for peace. War only makes for escalating violence and a mindset to pay the enemy back by any means necessary,” he said. Wright criticizes the Bush administration & it supporters for using Godly language to justify the war in Iraq. He equates using God in America as condoning the war in Iraq to the same perspective of Islamic fundamentalists
“We say that God will bless the shock and awe as we take over unilaterally another country, calling it a coalition because we’ve got three guys from Australia, going against the United Nations, going against the majority of Christians, Muslims and Jews throughout the world, making a pre-emptive strike in the name of God. We cannot see how what we are doing is the same thing is the same thing that Al-Qaeda is doing under a different color flag calling on the name of a different God to sanction and approve our murder and our mayhem”
Long history of government lies,“Prior to Harry Truman’s government, the military was segregated. But governments change. ... under Clinton blacks had an intelligent friend in the Oval Office. Oh, but governments change"
“Where governments change, God does not change. God is the same yesterday, today and forever more. That’s what his name I Am means. He does not change"
Note: "chickens coming home to roost" comment was attributed not to Wright but former Ambassador to the Iraq, Edward Peck
An excellent book: "The Faith of Barack Obama," by Stephen Mansfield http://tinyurl.com/3o7vsk
Mansfield is a pro-life conservative Republican that demonstrates a true Christian attitude of not demonizing people that have different views. Mansfield states:
"What really disappointments me in the church today is the level of hatred about politics. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I am not allowed to hate someone that kills my wife, steals my property. Hatred in the church about politics is sin and it's got to go"

The book is educational, easy to read book, and especially good for people unfamiliar with black churches. Wright's Black Liberation Theology is much different from what I heard on TV. The author is objective and helps answer why Obama stayed in Wright's church for 20 yrs, what really shaped Obama's religious views, how they will inform the way he governs. The book also has a very interesting chapter about the religious faith of McCain, Hillary Clinton, & George W Bush
Obama, his missing Hawaiin birth certificate and the need to travel to Hawaii this week
On October 20th, 2008 Barack Obama and the DNC filed a second motion to dismiss a federal lawsuit that demands he produce his valid birth certificate that proves he was born in Hawaii. To date Obama has not produced a valid US birth certificate, transcripts, records, papers he wrote while at Harvard, etc.
Today, October 22nd, he canceled all campaign plans and flew to Hawaii to see his ailing grandmother. Possibly completely true, but interesting nevertheless. It would be downright hard to believe if he suddenly produced a valid HA birth certificate.
This video and information about the lawsuit is pretty interesting. They show photos of copies of 2 different birth certificates posted in 2 different places on the internet.
