Palin Did in Fact Draw White Women to the McCain Ticket—Temporarily
I'd like to respectfully respond to my colleague Morgan, who wrote last week, "The buzz is that John McCain had captured the support of white women because of Sarah Palin. But here's the rub: White women haven't behaved any differently from the general population. They haven't been swinging as wildly as my colleague Bonnie and many others have suggested."
Sorry, "sistah," but the facts as relayed by Politico.com are in stark contrast to the claim that white women were never wooed to the McCain ticket by Sarah Palin's presence.
They were indeed:
Shortly after John McCain's announcement that Palin would be his running mate, several polls showed a strong swing of white women toward McCain. An ABC News/Washington Post poll conducted immediately after the Republican convention showed a 20 percent swing among white women toward McCain. White women went from supporting Barack Obama 50 percent to 42 percent to supporting McCain 53 percent to 41 percent, a swing that helped McCain close a 6 percent gap in the poll in only a week.
But Obama has since regained his lead with white women in most polls.
And Obama now leads among all women voters "despite all the talk of disaffected Hillary Clinton voters."
The facts are, white women were taken by Sarah Palin at first by a considerable margin. But since all the negative publicity and facts surrounding Palin have come out (the abuse-of-power investigation in Alaska, her mean-spirited love of slaughtering wildlife, her teenage daughter's pregnancy, and her hard-right stand on most issues), women have fled back into the Obama camp. I rest my case.

Dear Bonnie....thanks for the article and hopefully this will perk up the poor deluded Hillary turncoats who believe that McCain and Palin "got the right stuff".They are not offering anything but dim-witted stuffing and I for one am glad that they took off their hoods. Yes, their hoods for anyone who doesn't want to accept that all they see and want is an America that is white, racist and anti-everything. Just like everything else in America, everybodylikes to think that white people, in this case, white women, hold the sway....everyone forgets about the "dark horses" of any political race because no one wants to see them..this is African-Americans and other Americans from *all walks of life* who are determined that McCain/Palin have no place in the America that is being built now with a Barrack Obama presidentialideal that embraces ALL Americans. Everyone wants to paint Obama as a radical because that is their stereotype of blacks...how ludicrous. Barack's dream for America is no different than the radical signers of the Declaration of Independence...the major victory is that now the american dream is finaly being played out in 2008 and Obama,as a viable black american presidential candidate is worth more than a horse or a slave. We all need to wake up and stop playing around with outdated philosophies. HOW CAN ANY RIGHT THINKING AMERICAN VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHO REFERS TO HIS FELLOW SENATE PARTNER AS "THAT ONE" which is similar to "you people" or "those people"...clear racial stereotypes and someone who thinks and acts like Ma Barker? I am proud of an Obama Presidential candidacy and proud of all americans who are doing the right thing for the right reason. When I wake up on November 5th when Barrack Obama is President of the United States, it will be to join hands across america and across the world in celebration for a time that has come and we can work for the change that is needed. And if you really want to speak about radicalism, let's hope we don't wake up on November 5th with an angry irracisble out of touch white man and a moose/wolf/killing out-dated so-called hockey mom as President and Vice-President....you will REALLY see some radicalism then because American ideals will be down the drain and millions of Americans just like me, a strong, independent, yet deeply committed African-american woman will not sit back and watch people like McCain/Palin trash our great traditions. We will indeed RADICALLY oppose them and fight them....by any means necessary! And this is not fiction, it is indeed a fact. We will not continue to have four more years of George Bush style failures by his designated clones. And Ms. L. Grahm, Sarah Palin can take daily jewelry baths and attend the top charm school in the world and she will NEVER have the polish nor the character nor the decency of Obama and Michelle. And try though you might...you cannot make a vice-president out of a moose killer.nor one who shoots his friends..ring a bell?
Palin
Sarah Palin is a member of a hate group so vicious that they preyed for the deaths of Mother Teresa and Princess Di, and so crazy that they believe that God answered their prayers. If you are a Mormon, a Catholic, a Mason, or a member of many other decent and respectable groups which they call "corrupt religious systems," you are on their hit list.
