John McCain's 180s—He Twirls Like a Boomerang on the Financial Crisis

September 19, 2008 11:27 AM ET | Permanent Link | Print

Sen. John McCain's speech in Wisconsin this morning is as full as 180-degree turns as an unending ride on a boomerang. I have noted the 180s below and noted how they conflict with his earlier positions:

As Senator Obama's leader in Congress memorably put it the other day—and I quote —"no one knows what to do." (180—-McCain admitted months ago economic issues were not his strong suit.) Perhaps given that reaction, it shouldn't surprise us that the Congressional leaders of this do-nothing Congress also said that they weren't going to take action until after the election, claiming that it wasn't their fault. (180—-again, he's never claimed economic expertise until recently and indeed said this week that the government should not bail out AIG, until he reversed course on the same day and agreed the government should.) I am hopeful that last night's discussions are a sign they have changed their mind (180—-as has he) and will take action soon. But any action should be designed to keep people in their homes (180—which he once said should not be the province of the government) and safeguard the life savings of all Americans by protecting our financial system (180—-again philosophical reversal.)

Dem Bums

C'mon everyone - we all know the Donkeys, or is that a Jackass, caused this thing, dating back to the CRA in 1977 by one of the worst ever - Jimmy Carter. The libs had to make sure all the people that couldn't afford a home - own one. But let's not forget all the illegals (also known as "votes for the Dems")- got to make sure they own a home too. Fast-foward to 2004 when the hearings on FM/FM showed that this thing started to fall down under Frank Rains and Jim Johnson's astute (?) leadership. Of course the Dems backed them all the way and didn't want an investigation - got to cover up the mismanagement. How the books were cooked on their watch. Let's not forget Gorelick, too. They all manged to get large bonuses but did they really deserve them? McCain and Repubs tried to pass legislation to regualte the mess but no, the Donkeys blocked that as well. And now, Pelosi worst SOH ever is calling the Repubs "unpatriotic" is she kidding? this is from the person supporting taking "one nation under god" out of the pledge. What a class act (low class) these people are.

McCain Is Not Prepared To Lead In This Economic Crisis

McCain's role in creating the atmosphere of deregulation and golden parachutes disqualifies him in my mind as a the person best able to lead this country out of its current predicament. Years of overspending, tax cuts to the corporate interests, deference to CEO's at the taxpayers expense must stop or we will be in such a deep hole that our grandchildren will never dig out. McCain will twist and disguise his philosophies to a false populist message in order to get elected. If elected, does anyone believe McCain would not return to the convictions he has held his past 72 years? The deregulation he has promoted and participated in since his career as a politician began. America can't afford McCain - we're in a downward spiral that needs change.

Economy

1.Until the Juggernaut known as a "Corporation" ceases to have the same rights as a human being, the global economy will not improve. They are, by law, beholden to the bottom line of profit. We don't matter, their "legal" bottom line does. Anyone who thinks we are not beholden to that is naive and needs to inform themselves. The bottom line is that there will be no oversight in these corporations because it's contradictory to the bottom line.

2. All Americans deserve some blame for our current economic crisis, and in turn we're all going to have to buckle down and dig together to get out of this economic cluster@#!$ for our children's sake. We've been a nation of overspending, reactionary nuts for a long time who need to start reasoning, looking at our own bad habits and not make this only about Republican, Religious, or Democratic talking points.

3. WE THE PEOPLE, need to start looking in our local neighborhoods/communities for some real support solutions to the upcoming economic landslide that will have nowhere to go but down. How do we pull together as a country and come up with some out of the box thinking to help the new homeless, and the new suffering out there? I'm tired of hearing blame passed around, IT BELONGS TO ALL OF US!

4. People need to stop PANICKING, and start thinking! Fear doesn't solve problems. Take action, call people and see what can be done to create stability instead of reacting to things bigger than any of us can totally understand at this point. This issue cannot be handled overnight, to rush is to make a very stupid decision that can't afford to be made.

5. READ NUMBER 1 again.
