Could McCain's Extremist Running Mate, Palin, Help Obama?

How many times did McCain and Palin meet?

ONCE.

And that was before picking her as the vp candidate.

How do you expect things to run smoothly when the team just met? Do you expect Mccain to deeply know Palin in a month? You don't even know your best friend until you are best friends for years.

The country is screwed.

Supporting Women? Not...

Bryan in PA said:

Likewise, Governor Palin in spite of being a woman is certainly not a friend of women. Governor Palin’s political views regarding women’s rights is frightening especially since she is a woman. Governor Palin does not support a comprehensive sex education curricula, , she advocates an abstinence-only approach to sex education, she opposes the use of contraceptives, and she is against a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion even when a victim of rape or incest. She has cut government spending in the state of Alaska for programs that would benefit at pregnant teenagers in an effort to cut the state budget.

Additionally:

Palin stated VERY clearly last night that as a mother of a special needs child, she would be a strong advocate in Washington for special needs children. She failed to mention, however, that she cut the budget for special needs children as Governor of Alaska.

A bit of a sad irony that she now has a pregnant teenager and a special needs child.

Not a good choice for McCain

Governor Palin does not help Senator McCain's campaign. In fact, I would argue that she greatly harms his campaign.

The newly introduced female vice presidential candidate, Governor Sara Palin, has been a mayor of Wasilla and a governor of Alaska for 20 months now. We know that she is able to deliver a speech tailor written for her and that she is able to throw mud and insults at Senator Barack Obama. Interestingly enough, Governor Palin missed a very powerful opportunity to provide a comprehensive plan or vision for the US. Unfortunately, many voters (both men and women) will view her as a ranting woman trying her hardest to play ball with the boys. Many voters will question the ability of this woman to be a good vice president, and unlike the proven and tested stellar career of Hillary Clinton, the jury (literally) is still out on Governor Palin’s questionable record. Clearly, if Senator Hillary Clinton was unable to transcend gender discrimination, Governor Sara Palin will have a very hard time dodging that ball.

Additionally, Governor Palin is not an advocate of universal healthcare for all citizens. It is truly amazing that this woman is a mother who has children!

If Governor Palin is the republican tactic of bringing into the fold any disgruntled female Clinton supporters, the republican party has a better chance seeing the Lord than seeing any former female Clinton supporter vote for the McCain/Palin ticket in the upcoming election. Governor Palin truly makes Senator Barack Obama look like the Alan Alda of American politics today.

Oh, Sarah Palin.

I'm convinced that the right wing is the most anti-life party of them all. They don't mind brutally (aerial hunting and canned hunting must be the most brutal of all) killing animals and people of other religions, but don't touch an unborn fetus!

Anyone remember that scene from "Dances with Wolves" when Two Socks (the wolf) won't leave Dunbar's side, so the soldiers shoot him? Someone let Sarah Palin know that this was a sad part in the movie--a part that symbolized the downfall of the Native Americans and the stupidity of the white soldiers.

Community Organizer

TO: Sarah Palin

SHAME ON YOU!

MARTIN LUTHER KING WAS COMMUNITY ORGANIZER!

SHAME ON YOU, SHAME ON YOU!

Agent for change

Like so many other Republicans I have been upset at the way the elitist liberal Washington establishment led by Bush, Cheney and Rumsfled have put America to shame.

Now at last a right wing, anti-abortion, pro gun, evangelical Christian will restore the traditional conservative values that Bush and his left leaning coterie turned their backs on.

Eat your heart out Obama now we have a real agent for change

Sarcasm and Shrillness

So John McCain is a 72 year old cancer survivor. He is also an American hero whose faith in America was tested as he suffered pains but never gave up on his country.

Both statements above are true....or factual truths if you prefer.

Here are some more truths;

He has picked a 44 year old self described 'hockey mom' whose intellect on foreign and domestic issues is basically non-existent.

That explains why, for almost 7 days now, the Republican Vice Presidential nominee has not granted a single interview. She's clearly not ready for prime time as proven by revelations that she's currently being schooled on policy as she gears up for the debates.

Reading a teleprompter speech laden with sarcasm and shrillness is good fodder for the Republican base. But many women, including those commenting on this blog weren't very pleased with that performance.

It is also true that John McCain had only met this lady ONCE before giving her dibs on the US presidency in the event he becomes incapacitated.

Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong II and Ahmadinejad are cold hearted despots who will not be swayed by the sarcasm or shrillness of a self described 'Hockey mom', former mayor of Wasila,Alaska(Population 9000).

The American people deserve to have a vice presidential candidate who isn't afraid to talk to the media. Its been a week after she was named...she hasn't had a solid sit down, 'meet the press' style interview.

Gov. Palin, if you're such a self described 'pit bull', then come out from hiding and face the nation. Microphones don't bite.

palin as veep

although she was eloquent in her speech, she cam off as a high school snob with jabs at Obama, though NEVER mentioning his name. I'm a woman and would never vote for someone just because of their gender and after listening to her experienced or not would not give her my vote.

I think she should stay at home and tend to her family and continue to govern the state of Alaska. Having a child with Downs Syndrome will be plenty on her plate and this is brand new to her. The struggles will be enormous not to mention that her daughter will need her now more than ever for guidance in her new role as teenage mom and wife.

She will never be able to handle the diversity of Washington let alone the entire U.S. How many minorities in Alaska besides the inuits? How many Black families on public aid are the schools overcrowded as most of ours are?

Also, Let's leave religion out of the picture, separation of church and State, remember? Let women control their own bodies not the men in Washington. And most important let's ask ALL PARENTS to TALK with their children regarding issues of SEX. Soccor mon, hockey mom, SOOO what! EDUCATE the children and if their parents can't help them with their homework, then let's educate the PARENTS too. Stop with all the mudslinging and get down to politics, health, education and the economy.

SARAH PALIN

Perhaps some people only know her for three days but not me.

I read about her in the WSJ in 2006 and have followed her career, read some of her journalism and seen her interviewed. I -and every person who has met her- wsa very impressed by what I saw and heard. Last night Palin's speech was a homerun. Truly star was born. Win or lose in November Palin has become a personality and force to reckon with.

Scottish newspapers have already had these headlines "WHISPER IT OBAMA MIGHT LOSE..."

LET US HOPE AND LET US PRAY

MAC and PALIN ALL THE WAY.

"Extremist" ??

Bonnie & Blog: Let's not let politics get in the way of being fair and reasonable. It's demeaning to anyone to be unfairly labeled. Moreover it's demeaning to a respected publication like USNWR to be associated with unfounded rhetoric.
