BlackBerry Is No Bold Answer to the iPhone

The BlackBerry Bold's biggest improvement is a sharper screen.
The BlackBerry Bold's biggest improvement is a sharper screen.

A new hand-held joins the BlackBerry family, but we'll withhold the oohs and ahs despite the "Bold" name. The phone appears to be a good step forward—and not much more.

The Bold essentially soups up earlier BlackBerry models, adding a higher-resolution screen that has some reviewers singing its praises. And Kevin Micaluk at CrackBerry.com has a gushing review of the phone's look and feel, having scored one off eBay. The phone doesn't officially go on sale until this summer.

Besides its sharp screen, the handset works on high-speed data networks and includes Wi-Fi networking, both pluses. The camera captures a hefty 2 megapixels, and the media player syncs with Apple's iTunes software.

But unlike some, I don't see how the Bold alone can foil the Apple iPhone. That's more likely with a touch-screen model that Research in Motion is said to be developing.

For now, the BlackBerry Bold appears to be a great phone that will attract users who demand a real keyboard. For those who don't, it can't match the ease of the iPhone's touch-screen and software.

I'm with Chris

Iphone is a piece of junk.

I don't want to own a device that forces me to send it back to the manufacturer for a battery swap.

Touch screens break quicker than good old qwerty keyboard.

The bold has a nice leather back, doesn't feel cold in your hand and is less likely to slip out of your hand.

RIM has a proven track record in the corporate world and the new BOLD is the best of both worlds. There isn't a core function that it doesn't have.

I have owned Everything

I started with a Windows mobile 6 HTC Touch, then had 2 Blackberrys and 2 Iphones. All have the ups and downs, Iphones have the nicest looking screens yes, but lack productivity and compatibility , PDA's and clunky and slow, but the 3rd party app list is Gigantic lol Blackberry is an all around solid unit , Able to take on Any task, may not have the prittyest screen, but is able to work apps the fastest and with the highest compatibility to date, Had a Curve 8330 and moved up to a Bold , and loving it. Im not one of those kids who belive my PHone is better because i own it lol, i have owned all 3 modles , and Blackberry is winnners in my mind.

not to mention im an Offical Beta Tester now ;) , i got over $500 in free accessories straight from Rims, and Free software the would generally cost 20-30 dollars each.

And a few more:

1. Video recording - BB's got it, iPhone doesn't.

2. Voice commands - Can I hit my bluetooth headset's button and call up a colleague without digging my iPhone out of my pocket (something I do several times a day)? Nope, sure can't. Hell, even my old RAZR pwns the iPhone in this department.
