Hillary Clinton, Madame Vice President
A Barack Obama-Hillary Clinton ticket is an idea that I have been promoting as a real political possibility—to much skepticism, I admit. But none other than my fellow Greek-American George Stephanopoulos also thinks it could happen: "I mean, first of all, would Senator Obama go for it? Can he get over the bitterness of this campaign? Can he be convinced that it's the strongest ticket? Third, of course, would Senator Clinton take it? I think if it was offered in the right way, yes."
I think a guy like Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia would be a logical pick—downscale appeal, a Vietnam vet, defense background as a Navy secretary under Ronald Reagan, from a swing state. Currently, the Intrade betting market gives "the field" the best odds of getting picked, at 35 percent. That means someone (Claire McCaskill? Ed Rendell? Colin Powell?) other than listed potential candidates Hillary, Webb, John Edwards, Bill Richardson, Al Gore, Wes Clark, Mark Warner, Evan Bayh, Joe Biden, Sam Nunn, Ted Strickland, Tom Daschle, Chris Dodd, Tom Vilsack, and John Kerry. Of that group, Hillary is in first with 18 percent, and Webb second at 11 percent.
Dan Clifton, ace political analyst over at Strategas Research and a friend of this blog, gives his two cents on Obama's veep choice:
Obama may need to pick someone fast to rebuild the support he is losing from Clinton supporters. We also believe Obama needs to pick someone who is strong on defense, more conservative than him, and has lots of experience. The challenge is that someone in this category will most likely upset the liberal base, so the first week after the announcement could be rough.
My take: I am not sure Hillary Clinton meets any of those criteria, but I think she would rather make history—and maybe set herself up for 2012 if the ticket loses—than putter around the Senate.

Please, No Hillary VP
As an ardent Obama supporter, I would be extremely disappointed if HRC was picked as the VP choice.
That would just spoil his ticket. She's ran a horrible and NASTY campaign and I can't see them getting together.
After all, she's the one who brought Pastor Wright to us, not the GOP.
Obama-Clinton
NO WAY should Senator Obama pick Mrs. Clinton as his running mate -- he'd also get stuck with Bill, and Bill Clinton is the number one reason I would NOT vote for Hillary as President. My suggestion for VEEP for Senator Obama is Nancy Pelosi -- she has experience and has shown great character by advising superdelegates not to override the voice of the people by ignoring the winner of the popular vote/delegate count. And also in her favor, is the Nancy Pelosi does not bring the negative political baggage that Hill and Bill will from their previous administration.
Hillary and 2012
The problem is that Hillary understands that Obama's chance of losing this year's election to McCain is very high and President McCain would be 76 year old in 2013, meaning he will most likely not seek his second term. With Obama out of her way after his November defeat(No second chance for Obama either), nothing stands in her way of 2012 Democratic nomination, barring Al Gore's interest in seeking presidency to save the planet from global warming.
Had McCain been in his 60s, Hillary might take the bait, but not when she's looking at a probable one-termer.
Vice President
Can you run on a platform of 'change' and bring the Clintons back in?
Can you really separate Hillary and Bill?
Can you really invite back into the White House...the same family that brought more disgace and scandal, along with a few good intiatives, to the Presidency than any other in our brief history?
Think people.
Hillary as VP only makes sense if Obama is a phony
Hillary as VP only makes sense if Obama is a phony. If he means what he has been saying about changing Washington, then he has to start with skipping what the "insiders" and conventional wisdom folks want.
And while I think it was said as a joke, I heard on one news cable show the line that will always stick in my mind. When asked...should Obama take Hillary as his VP, the response was "not unless he wants to go through his Presidency with a taste-tester". Anyone who has read Machievelli would appreciate that one.
Hilliary as VP?
No! I'm an elderly white female Republican who's thinking seriously about voting for Obama. If there's even a smell of a Clinton on the Democratic ticket, I'll go back to McCain.
Mayor of Guam
I'm pushing Hillary for Mayor of Guam. It was her narrow loss in Guam that started the falling dominoes. There is a little known fact, something like the Bermuda Triangle, but about elections -- a loss in Guam is like being lost in the Triangle. If the Clintons don't go to Guam immediately and accept the offices of King and Queen for the next four years, Hillary will mysteriously disappear -- and reappear in the 2048 presidential elections, wearing the same yellow leisure suit. If Hillary serves as Queen of Guam for four years, she will win the 2012 Presidential Election. I guarantee it.
Cut the Clintons Loose
The big test for Obama's integrity is yet to come. Will he cut loose the corrupt Clintons, or will he pander to he supporters by putting her in the Cabinet or Vice-Presidency. Obama supporters must demand that Obama cut ties with the Clinton Dynasty. No positions, no perks, no honors for the standard bearers of the "old politics."
No Clintons in the White House
Up front, I'm an Obama supporter - I support him because he makes sense to me and the others don't.
That said, Obama should not even seriously consider offering the VP spot to Clinton for the following reasons:
1) There are huge %s of people who voted for him purely so they would not be voting for her. Those people will most likely not vote, or else go for McCain or third-party.
2) It's not just her - you get the complete Clinton package, and who honestly believes Bill will take well to being the Co-Vice? The man's a bit ego-centric (he can't help it), and I think he'd find it impossible to avoid causing problems.
3) He can do better. Whether it's politically calculating or not, having a different top-tier female democrat would go a long way for him. Kathleen Sebelius, perhaps.
4) Tounge firmly in cheek, he'd have to double his Secret Service to watch for daggers in his back or any other tactic that would suddenly elevate "madame VP" to "Mrs. President". (Come on, you know I'm not the first to think that, and I'm far less serious about it than some.)
5) Seriously - I did the math based on a comprehensive examination of all the polls matching Obama-v-McCain and Clinton-v-McCain, and even without Clinton, Obama beats McCain in the general election. That's without any VP slots chosen on either side, but unless McCain chooses someone who drastically impacts the electoral landscape or Obama somehow chooses someone who half the country avidly despises (other than Hillary, I mean), Obama will do just fine.
I'm quite sure there's more reasons than these, I just thought I'd throw in my 2 (+/- 2) cents.
Hillary and Stupidity
So to work off of what you guys are saying(and gals) are saying, I'd like to mention the pure retardedness of Hillary's campaign. She has played dirty politics for the last 6 months, so no, she shouldn't get the vice presidency. Both she and her husband have outright lied in several news broadcasts(don't even bother arguing, its not a debate, its fact), she has taken every step to split the party in two and is dragging this out towards the party's implosion.
We all know we can't allow W's third term(McCain), and she would rather do that than at least put a democrat in. Look at the Hillary and Obama's stance! There are so very close, yet she has made what should be a minor details and electability race into an all out war. And if you can't guess why, it's because when she was campaigning for herself and not specifically against anyone she was LOSING. Gee, maybe she should realize that this election isn't about her. But no, she rather accuse Obama of being an elitist while pumping ten of MILLIONS of dollars into her own campaign. Or how about her big gas tax idea? Don't worry, economists don't study money or anything, they don't know anything about it! But Hillary does! OH YES, her husband taught her all about it over the last 2 dozen years when niether of them have had to have any source of income.
The only reason she is still here is because the mainstream media had initially picked her as their candidate (look it up) and decided to give her more press time than her opponents compared to her vote numbers(again, look it up).
This country needs someone with some fiscal smarts to get us back on track towards overcoming the national debt crisis, towards fixing America and she has done nothing but rip it apart over the last few months. Her own states papers all turned against her and her negative, party destructive ways months ago. Maybe she should just go crawl into a whole somewhere and be quiet for a few months while we try to fix her mess.
If Hillary is NOT on the ticket...I'll vote McCain. There is no way Obama will get my vote without her. He is naive, passive, inexperienced and arrogant. All those things together spell DISASTER for America.
You Obama folks are evil and nasty....have you guys actually read your comments about Hillary. She's a fellow human being! You people are sick. And its Obama's campaign that has attacked Hillary personally. She has never attacked Him and his family personally. Take Obama's unclassy wife for example....she said she wanted to "rip out" Bill Clinton's eyes....then she insulted Hillary's marriage. THAT is wayyy too low! And Obama compared Hillary to BUSH...(can't get any more negative and insulting than that!) Its the media who refused to pick up on these things and report them....they'd rather report that Hillary is so negative on poor lil Barack. What a joke!
DREAM TICKET 2008!
Of course he should pick Hillary. And of course she should accept. Clinton supportorers have developed a healty - and understandable - dislike for self-riteous Obama supporters, and vice versa. If Barack is really the unifier he claims to be (and I think he is), the one clear choice to heal the party quick and start battling McCain is to pick her. Obama might be wise to offer up the condition that Bill must keep a loooow profile during his administration - but he'll be in the driver's seat, so he'll have the power to do that.
If he doesn't pick her, he's just another well-spoken hypocrite politician who speaks of unity but doesn't act to achieve it. If he does make her the offer, but she doesn't accept, then she's just a big dummy. And if the DNC doesn't do what's necessary to encourage this union, then they deserve to be out of power for the next 4-8 years, and I will certainly not be voting Dem.
Barack Obama - Colin Powell
Here is a ticket that will not only grab the right but also entice the left as well. You want a true power ticket - these two together would be a ticket that could not loose.
Hillary is treated unfair!
I agree with Amber 100%. You people have no idea what your talking about. Obama has had just a dirty campaign as she has. He is arrogant, and naive. How can you vote someone in office who has 0 experience.
You people are very nasty and you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
Go Hillary! Obama? NO WAY!!!!!
Hillary deserves to be a president. If for example Obama gets norminated this year, don't worry guys, I don't think he would be elected as the president and Hillary would come back in 2012.
Obama/Biden - that's the ticket!
No Way to Hillary. Barack has run his entire campaign undergirded by the notion of change and an end to politics of the past. Hillary is the complete antithesis to his theme, and therefore, she would not be of ANY value on the ticket. In fact, she would cause him to be completely discredited.
Besides that, can you imagine the ridicule that would become campaign fodder for the republicans if Barack presents himself on a ticket with someone who openly declared that his opponent(mc-same) is more qualified to be president, and who claimed that Barack is nothing more than a speech making windbag? Sorry, Hillary ran such a nasty campaign, that she ruined ANY chance of being a viable option for VP. She burned that bridge with a blow torch.
She "may" be fit for a cabinet position as secretary of health and human services, but I'm not real sure if she is fit for that since she seems determined to repeat the mistakes of the past on healthcare which rendered it dead on arrival with no hope of passing.
GREAT CHOICES
1.Claire McCaskill
2.Kathleen Sebelius
Hillary Clinton has proven to be an outright disgrace to women voters and humanity PERIOD. her underhanded approach and dirty approach has left us voters with such distaste for her and what she represents.
OBAMA 08.
p.s. to all democrats who threaten to vote McSame should Obama win
1. you're not really a democrat
2. you're the equivalent of an 8 yr old who throws a tantrum when he/she doesn't get what he/she wants
3. what the major difference in issues of substance between Obama and Clinton aside from that horrid gas gimick and universal health care (which btw as a health policy professional i totally oppose mandated universal healthcare)?
4. could it be that you just can't stand the though of a man with some BLACK in him is about to become president?
reflect.
Hillary? Are you serious?
Have any of you Hillary supporters actually read any facts, or watched her extremely conflicting interviews? She lies and back-tracks more than anybody, all for the sake of winning. She doesn't want to win to better the country, she wants to win to better her ego as the President. And let's all do well to remember something here: First lady is just an ambassador. Hillary Clinton does not have 8 years experience in the White House, William Jefferson Clinton does. She wasn't the one tasked with making the decisions. She's been in the Senate for fewer terms than Obama's Illinois and federal Senate tenures when combined - She actually has 4 fewer years experience in doing real work than he does.
Clinton runs campaign as if..
sorry clinton runs a campaign as if she is still the First Lady, but one that is more ready to flout rules whenever it is to her advantage. in the first place why did she allow herself to be a candidate in michigan and Florida when the national committee never even sanctioned it, or gave it the go ahead. as a respectable leader she should know more about rules and laws. becoming a president is all that she wants but when it comes to laws, well "flout it anyway so long as I can be President". america cannot have such a flawed personality to be President, otherwise there will be no end to troubles and america has had enough of troubles...from another rule and law flouter.....George Bush....
Hillary as VP
Remember ..Hillary (and Bill) will do ANYTHING to get Hillary the position as President. I think he should go with Claire McCaskill. If the Clintons had any thought of of doing the unthinkable, then Claire would be the first woman President. I'm afraid that Obama will need that insurance. Can you hear Hillary now...I was the first woman VP and first woman President. It's too scary to think about but I am very afraid of the Clintons and what they mighty do. She probably knows her only path to the Presidency ...no one will vote for her 8 years from now. They better up the security by threefold and keep him safe.
Bad Idea
Being in my 70's, I've voted in every presidential election since 1960. As a registered independent, I have never voted a straight ticket and have never voted for a Democratic candidate for president. I am excited about having the opportunity of voting for Obama for president. However, if he gets forced into accepting Hillary as his vice presidential running mate just to pander to the Clintons, the Democratic Party will be making a huge mistake. An Obama-Clinton ticket is NOT a strong ticket and not a combo I could endorse. Please allow Obama to make a vice presidential choice with which he is comfortable; someone with whom he can work and trust.
Hillary v. obama
Don't matter what you all say! I already cast my vote in Pennsylvania for HILLARY CLINTON. Back in the Clinton days I lived a comfortable life style, and I want it back. Gas in 1990 was $1.34 and dropped to $1.22 in 1999. After the horrible 8 Bush years, a person can only tread water so long before sinking. I look around and many are sinking, foreclosure on homes, bankruptcy, inflated food and gas costs etc. etc....Putting Obama in the White House is like giving a Trojan gift horse to a place you wish you could get in but can't. Now, Obama and his cronies figured out a way to blind-side the American people.
Clinton - Obama
I have been a Democrat for all my life, now in my mid 50's, I am a supporter of Mrs. Clinton. She has the experience and the toughness to be our next president. I wish I did not have to say this but is Sentor Obama is the democratic nominee then I will have no choice but to vote, I cannot believe I am saying this, republican.
WHY
ARE YOU DEMOCRATS THREATENING TO VOTE MCAIN IF HILLARY DOES NOT WIN?
state reasons.
skip the bullshit.
my feeling is that you cannot stand that this man, who has some BLACK is him is exemplary and is surely about to become president.
jh of Santa Cruz
OBAMA can not win it on his own...... without the CLINTON supporters- he is going nowhere. He does not have a chance. Silly naive, gulliable dreamers. Obama can take a job preaching with Rev. Wright and hang out with the educated and elite. Be with the Good Old Boys. and the secret societys.
I say the H--- with it Hillary- Break that D--- glass ceiling.
Go all the way Girl! Hillary Clinton President of the United States.
Never understimate a women!
Clinton is OBAMA’S only chance to win in November
I won’t vote for Obama unless Clinton is on the bill. If Mr Obama means what he says in all those pretty little speeches about “healing the country” then he should start with his own party. If Mr Obama doesn’t ask Mrs. Clinton to be his running mate he is proving that he cant get over his ego long enough to put together the ONLY winning ticket the American democratic majority will buy. Let not forget nether candidate can reach that magic number without the Super delegates. Obama did not win his party over by the same numbers McCain did with the republicans. Clinton will need the Super delegates help and SO WILL OBAMA!
Hillary all the way!!
I wouldn't vote for obama for dogcatcher - well, maybe dogcatcher.
Madame President!
Break that D--- Glass Ceiling Hillary!. Go all the Way!

Obama or Hillary
Why not all of us just vote how we feel. Come November, when all the lies are said and done, I like the rest of you should vote for what is in all of our best intrest. Not because one is to old, not because one is Black, and not because one is a woman. Because it is our civic duty to do what is right for the Nation, not to feed our own Ego's. Ron
Vice Slot
I hadn't seen Webb previously speculated for the veep spot. He would be a terrific choice as a southern white male with a military background and a brush cut. I also like Claire McCaskill, the Missouri gov, who delivered her state for Barack in the primary. She must be a helluva an organizer as well as being articulate (more so that HRC actually).
Certainly if Barack put HRS on the ticket, it would carry great symbolic value as a move to unify the party reflecting his lack of partisan zealotry. But the Billary factor makes that a tough sell. I was a big supporter of Bill when he ran both times but his performance on the stump was putrid. Let him go make out with whomever he does that with these days.
Hillary Top Gun
I have been a Hillary supporter since she began her campaign. I can't belief the Hillary bashing, like she is some evil person. She is smart, confident, and she has experience. If a man was running as close to Obama as she is, no one would think of telling him to leave the campaign.
Take Hillary serious and get with the program. She should be president and let Obama be her VP. I am not against Obama. I am for Hillary. After Obama gets experience as a VP he would be in great shape to run for president.
Hillary deserves to win. She is the best candidate for the job
Who cares?
McCain wins.
Still Laughing
I'm still laughing over Anthony of Maine's complaints concerning Senator Clinton's extra air time, so can't really answer. Will have to come back.
No to Hillary for VP
I would have supported Hillary but for the fact that her true nature came out in this campaign: she manipulates her position to fit what she thinks will get the votes, changing positions like the wind. She's as hard headed as Bush, the "Decider", not getting out of the race because she can't believe her anointment as the nominee didn't come to fruition - remember the PA win had to be double digits to stay in the race (it turned out to be 9%), Indiana and NC results were supposed to be the game changer - instead it showed Obama's strength...and she still stays in the race???? She is hard headed and egotistical and she would be a negative on the ticket.
no no no
I could not support an Obama/Clinton ticket. More than that, he deserves better. McCaskill or Sebalius- Real women with real resumes, good character, genuine values and no psychodrama.
VP
If Obama is nominated I hope that Hillary has the good sense not to accept the VP nomination.Obama has divided the party to the extent that there is no chance that he will be elected this year. If Hillary is his VP she will be blamed for his loss and he will try again in 2012 and we could have a rerun of this year. If Hillary steers clear of this trap she will be in a great position to run in 2012 and win!
vp
No way a Clinton taking second. It is not in their language. Also how could Obamabe for a new kind of politics and then choose the oldest kind around. It destroys his whole platform. This makes no sense whats so ever. Plus VP are usually quite and respectful two qualities she does not have. Dumb mistake on his part if he gives in to that one. Alo if she is VP and I was President I would for sure hire a food taster for the white house I do not put anything past that family at all.
OBAMA NEEDS TO BEG HRC TO BE HIS VP
Obama's only chance ever to win the national election is (to get down on his knees if he has0 to beg Hillary to be his VP. Barring that he will alienate the majority of the Democratic voters ie working class wite females . Obama supporters should not fool themselves in believing that they can do away without the majority of the Democratic votes. Had Hillary won the the nomination it would conversely had been her only chance if Obama would have been her VP, due to his base of supporters. Without the "dream ticket" Democrats can kiss this election good bye. Let's see how smart Obama is/is not in his selection of VP... stay tuned.
James
Politics is about wining.I cannot understand why people cannot get this. Hillarry is not running a nasty campagin. She is only trying to win, just like Obama was trying to win when he was not the front runner.
GO Hilary!!! GO ALL THE WAY!
Hilary is number one and she will be always a number one for this country. Just look at the economy that we really enjoyed during her husband era. God bless Hilary and bill clinton.
all of you is stupid
everything here is stupid
Selecting Hillary would destroy the moral integrity of Obama's candidacy.
She would not accept it - she wants McCain to win and shoot for 2012.
She represents the establishment - more than anyone - she represents the shadow leadeship of all that Obama has pledged to get rid of.
He has taken the high road and refused to play in her mudpool.
He must contibue the high road and leave her to swim alone in her mudpool
Dignity, honour, integrity, authenticity define him- while she by her actions shows that those words/values are not only unknown to her but not contained in her dictionary
We are a great nation with a great pool (not mud) of talented potential VP cadidates
We can do better - We deserve better
No to McCaskill
anyone but McCaskill. she is a junior clinton. wines and dines her way to the top. ANYONE BUT HER!
From Missouri
IF presented the right way?!?
You act if Obama has put his tail between his legs and beg Hillary for the VP position.
1.) He doesn't need her. He spanked her in IN. Rush dittoheads gave a 7% boost. That was confirmed.
2.) Putting her on the ticket completely neutralizes his message, he picks up her negatives and if he mysteriously dies.. then what.
If she's anywhere on the ticket as much as I like Obama I won't vote.
So... NOT GONNA HAPPEN
Why continue the Cheney/Bush trend?
Suggesting that Hillary becomes Barack's VP continues the Cheney / Bush trend with the more experienced person in the number 2 position.
The real "Operation Chaos" is that Republicans changed the primary dates in Florida and Michigan and the DNC is so inept that it excluded their votes. Had these votes counted, Barack would have rightly dropped out by now and your question would be just the opposite!
Equally FLAWED
SnObama and Hillabeans = Flawed versus a not so Republican, McCain. Of all the 300 million Americans in this country, we are down to these candidates for president. Pathetic. Pathetic. We have a candidate in SnObama who is a nobody (don't know who he is and has a "too late" to take him back sticker tag with more skeletons coming out of his closet, and not to mention a wife who just does not shut the heck up). Also, we have a candidate in Hillabeans who is considered the most demonized & divisive woman in American politics. Further, a geriatric candidate in McCain and a liberal in sheepskin clothing. Very disappointing time for America and I am sensing a Jimmy Carter part II administration for the next four years.
Ross Perot appeared out of nowhere to assure the victory of Bill Clinton
Barak Obama appeared out of nowhere to assure the defeat of Hillary.
You don't offer her anything " the right way" If she wants it she will grab it or steal it.
Shame is unknown to her.- look at the management of her campaign. Do we want to risk her having any chance to run the country the way she runs her campaign
The clintons like the famous pen of history have written now they must move on.
Are you for real?
Are you Hillary supporters for real? I think you all have your heads buried in the sand. Tell me what experience she has? She was NOT president, she was First Lady! She had tea parties for God's sake! Look at the bills she has written, co-written, or supported and compare them to Obama's regarding importance. Have you forgotten about the White Water scandal? The whole Monica scandal? The fact that when Hill and Bill left office they took things from the White House THAT WEREN'T EVEN THEIRS?! The fact that Hillary moved to New York for a power position instead of representing her home state? Don't get me wrong, I liked Bill when he was in office, but the Clintons have embarrassed themselves to the point where I don't want them representing our country.
Have you even read up on Obama? How he has been working with and for the people for years and years? Did you listen to his speech in Pennsylvania? Go to You Tube and watch it. Notice how often he refers to his notes - not very much. How much does Hillary look down at her notes? A lot. Obama has the calm and poise that we need in a leader. Hillary is confrontational.
I think you need to check your tan and ask yourself why, exactly, you don't like Obama.
McCain - simply too old and out of touch.
Come On Already!!!
After reviewing the list of comments on this web site alone, it is obvious that the Republican Party is doing a very fine job of the old "Divide and Conquer" ploy. For starters, we're all still kidding ourselves that a 2 party system and career politicians are exactly what the founding fathers really wanted for this country. With "Cult-of-Personality-esque" tactics, both Hillary and Obama have parlayed their way into the Love/Hate hearts and minds of the American Voters. Both just want to grab the brass ring and claim to be "the first" in their class; however, we all know it has little to do with class when it comes to American Politics. Wake Up America and VOTE with common sense!!!
Obama w/ Hillary as VP
Initially I thought that was a excellent idea, however upon observing the racist comments and dirrrty politics that Hillary started after the third debate, I say "Hell" No!! and as far as some of you stating if Obama is elected as Democratic choice you all would run to the Republicans?....You all are not fooling anyone, you all are "whites, (wanna be white) Hispanics, and Uncle tom status blacks that just can't bare the thought that a 50% black male is ......The Preseident of the United States !! that just destroys your inner souls huh? Myh question to all of the above mentioned "Sub-Culture Groups are; Why cant you all see such as the new age voters that skin color is not an determining factor. Look at the content of the charactor and use Gods good judgement that he gave to you. All of you know, since George Washington, No white male as ever been able to correct America's problems, they all have stated that they will do this and that and has only destroyed this great country. So apparently now we have a Black man and finally a woman and you let your predjudice show brighter than the sun. WAKE UP AMERICA!
RE:
NO HILLBILLIES PLEASE>>>>>
You need to be more thoughtful
For all of you who rage against Hillary Clinton on the ticket (and I have to wonder where you all were during the prosperity of the Clinton years), I hope that Obama is smart enough to realize that there is a significantly greater percentage of Clinton supporters (from numerous polls) who have said they're not willing to vote for the Democratic ticket if she's not the candidate vs. his supporters saying they won't support the ticket if he's not the candidate.
I am one of those people -- I will not vote for him if he doesn't do one of two things: offer the VP slot to Hillary, or change his health plan to real universal health care. Mind you, I won't vote for McCain -- but it's a real possibility that I won't vote at all. There are a lot of people like me. If you all think you can go it alone without us, then I hope you're willing to accept the consequences of such a risk.
In a presidential election that will probably come down to a small percentage point difference, and a few key states -- I'm counting on Obama to understand the dynamics, do the calculations, and make the right choice (offering the VP slot to Hillary). Hillary would be the perfect complement to Obama -- I would have preferred it the other way around, but I can accept this compromise -- and hopefully he will not only offer her the position, but he will make proper use of her as VP (treat her as a real partner, and not just shuffling her off to the side).
Frankly, many of the reasons you all have cited for not wanting the combination are just silly. Ooooh . . . "Bill's influence" -- well, if Barack can't keep a former President who has a vested interest in line, then how can we even think he can navigate the petty politics of the Middle East?
Oooooh . . . it would undermine his commitment to change. Duh, an African-American and a woman as President and VP -- do we actually, really need to say more?
Oh, she's too entrenched in the politics of now: talk to most people from New York, and she's done a damned fine job representing their interests, and Barack will need someone like her to tend to the details as he addresses the more visionary concepts.
Oooooh . . . the campaign was too bitter and she should be punished for it. Give me a break, negative campaigning characterized both campaigns and if you didn't see it on both sides then you're living in a fantasy world.
The nastiness of many of the comments I have read about Hillary in this comment stream is the type of mean-spiritedness that advances the resentment we Hillary supporters have had about Barack and that will keep us away from supporting him.
I'm encouraged that he's been more positive about the possibilities lately (frankly, more positive than many of his supporters). In that context, I hope he will understand the importance of offering the VP position to Hillary. I have to put this to you all: are you all ready to actually bolt if he does [in spite of the Republican whose "thinking she might vote for him" -- whatever (btw, I'm an independent) ]?
Hope this gives some food for thought. Best to you all.
Every State Counts ....
Blind Amercians voting on a slogan. I'm sorry if your that religious and conservative vote for McCain, if you want change then take a chance on Obama, if you want results, vote Clinton.
Wait till all the states are in, how do you think those state feel? Oh, I get it the rest of the US says we really don't matter let's just name the nominee, it ain't over to the fat lady sings people.... even if that ends up being HRC, at least its fair and every state has there say. shut=up, be patient, unless you Obama supporters have something fear? A few more weeks and it will all be over ...
Hill as VP? More sniper fire...................
It is time for the Clintons to get out of town. They would build an underground tunnel to the White House and camp outside the Oval Office., She has tried to overshadow Senator Obama. He should not put someone in as VP who is still playing the race card with her husband. Why would he want that? I am sick of hearing her talk of white voters this and white voters that. I am sick of her saying people over 60 vote for her. I am sick of hearing her talk of cross-over Limbaugh voters who voted for her. I am a white, senior over 70 mostly Republican and I want to see Obama take over the White House, make changes there and in America, and get rid of this black and white America. The only true Americans rode ponies and hunted their food with bow and arrow. The rest of us are imigrants and legal ones at that. Clintons had their day in the sun and Bill had his day working and playing in the Oval Office. President Obama is above all that. Hillary should go back to New York and work at her Senate job which is paying her big bucks while she flies all over the country campaigning for a lost cause. At least she is using her own money now and not the money of hard working Americans who have given her, as she admits, a sea to shining sea vacation.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO WAY!!!
I think we all have our favorite candidate who we feel is better for the presidency. In my opinion, we need new blood in the White House. I think fundamentally it makes sense to have Obama pick someone else as vice president. Powell would be a good candidate, or even Condi Rice or Nancy Pelosi...but not Hillary. I think she has an ego problem at this point. She had not only shown that she's a liar with this Sniper story, but she has the same song and dance of "We need someone who is ready on day one." As if Obama would not be ready on day one, what's he going to do, sleep in. The bad thing about it is this, the superdelegates should have put an end to this bickering a long time ago. Right now Hillary is feeling pretty low because she can't phathom the fact that this young bi-racial (in her eyes - black man), with just about the same experience (though she won't admit it) that she has, has gotten this far and has beaten her. Mr. Obama could have gotten dirty with the white house scandals when she and Bill where there, but he chose not to go there, though she kept pushing his buttons with her attacks on him, I think he handled it quite eloquently. Many Hillary fans say that the media was harder on her than Obama, that was totally not true, they searched and searched for something to get him on and each time came up empty handed. He withstood all of the accusations, lies, antagonistic comments with dignity, and they say he wasn't strong enough or firm and direct. To stand and take all that he has endured, even after writing 3 books, one detailing his entire life growing up in a bi-racial family, being poor etc., they still came at him with their denial and he still stood tall and proud. He basically told all there was to tell good and bad. There was nothing left, and then they procured Reverend Wright, who didn't make Barack look any worse, he only made himself look like a fool and anyone who was in favor of Barack who then changed their minds over some comments "another" man made in a sermon, showed poor judgement on them being a "true" Obama supporter. It's like a bitter divorce, if someone has been in your life for so many years it's very hard to denounce them, and I think that for Barack, it was hard for him to do, though he was probably contemplating his break from Wright for a long time and probably had distanced himself physically and was doing so mentally as well. What amazes me about Americans is that they fall for anything. Anytime a person running for President lies outright and/or tries to mislead the country, then whose husband served as President only to have sex in the white house, cause scandal and then gets impeached, has the audacity to try and defend her place as a person who Americans can trust is beyond me. I don't think that Barack can do any worse than the president we have now, and any in the past. One thing that Michelle Obama said that sticks with me and I know this to be true since Barack was so forthright, is that she "Hates a Liar" and when she said this in an interview when the commentator asked her what's one of her peeves, the look on her face when she said that, let me know that these are the people who need to be in the White House, these are the people we need to run this country. The time is now
O'Bama No! She's Dangerous to You and this Country
A person who will go to the extremes to get what she wants is dangerous, to your campaign and to this country. Think about it. What if she were to have this no negotiation my way or else attitude with our allies, congress, the senate. You have to give a little sometimes to be successful in politics. Stubborness is not the way to run a country. You could be wrong sometimes, you have to listen to others. She's dangerous.
Madam VP
I don't know if any of you out there watch survivor, if Obama where to give the VP spot to Clinton that would be just another Erik on survivor. Since she wants to destroy the Democratic Party the best spot for her now would be Michel personal secretary as long as Michel or her daughters don’t eat candy or food from the Clinton’s. and most important if the Clinton’s is to be anywhere near the White House the Osama’s need to hire a food taster.
Come on NOOOOOOOO way
You really believe that! Obama is careear politican too. He has little to no experience in the senate. No matter what party are stand for, in order to get things done in Washing ton you have to have a working knowledge. His experience is limited. Clinton on the other hands has been in the "trenches". People say she is a bi--h but they say that about any woman who is strong and willing to take charge. I also agree that if Obama was the bi-racial or black whatever that we would not bbe having this conversation. The black voter are vote for Obama because he is black not because of his stand on anything. If you don't believe that you are crazy.

Hillary no chance
Hillary has no chance of been named VP.She has portrayed herself as a white egotistical maniac,She claims she has experience, experience she has,... of hosting big parties at the white house, but experience of running the country zero, not unless the decisions Bill was making came from her.
After 8 years of mismangement by 'know all 'Bush we need,a change of direction,a breath of fresh air, change and true change,Obama has not baggage to carry around and please unlike his revival, for experience all those president america has had learned to be presidents from the white house, you became the president experience follows.
Hillary for DC Madam
Favoring a brain dead old fart McCain over Obama because Hillary got toasted is indicative of a sick mind. Hilary is no democrat, she is no republican either; she is void of principles. She is Saddam Hussein in drag. She would step on her daddy’s dead body for few pennies. She’s ruthless, arrogant, shallow and worse of all; she’s a congenital liar who’s not suited and should not be trusted for any public service job. She is well certified for the DC Madam Job given that the position is vacant now . . .
No more red neck slick Willy
What’s wrong with people in this Country? Why are we fighting to put corrupt Clintons back in the White House? Wake up folks, the Clintons have no concerns about working class or any class of people. Bill Clinton made $130,000,000 “that’s 130 Millions” in 2007 lobbing for foreigners in UAE and Kazakhstan. Unfortunately, during Clinton’s 8 years in office; we lost most of USA’s industrial base for good when thousands of US companies moved to China, Mexico and the Pacific Rim. It was during his time in office when the biggest fraudulent dot.com boom then bust took place. It was also during his crooked administration when China got most of US Aerospace, high tech military and industrial secrets under the pretense of new world order and spirit of cooperation, which in turn will be causing us great dangers in next decade or two. I wouldn’t trust the low life Clintons even if endorsed and escorted by Moses, Jesus and Mary. Enough of old Arkansas and red neck slick Willy
Hillary as Independent!
Hillary should go Independent and pick a VP with a conservative bent to peel away support from John McCain. She has 50% of the Democratic party voters behind her already. She has the women's vote, the white blue-collar vote, the Latino vote, the Catholic vote, the Jewish vote and the 65+ vote. The youth vote abandoned us by not voting in the general election in 2004 and there is nothing to say they won't do it again. Apparently, they bore easily. Senator Clinton has easily beat Obama in the big swing states that are a must-win for Democrats in the fall. She is far and away more intelligent than Obama and McCain. Obama won't debate her now because he knows he'll be beat, but in a three way race, he'll have no choice. She will make mince meat out of both McCain and Obama. I sure hope her campaign is seriously considering this approach because a) it is very do-able and b) ultimately it is what would be best for the country and the world.
WELL SAID!
Thanks for the below post. It is the most intelligent I have read. I too would have preferred a Clinton/Obama ticket, but an Obama/Clinton ticket is an acceptable compromise.
If all the Obama supporters believed in what he says about "unifying" then it is incomprehensible that the 48-49% of us who voted for Hillary should have no voice in this. How many of you will not vote for Obama if he picks Hillary.....seriously.
If so, then you will only have yourself to blame when he loses in Novemeber. I will LIKELY vote for him regardlessof whether she is on the ticket or not...I'm not against him, I'm for her. But I will vote with much less enthusiam, and some won't simply won't if she isn't o the ticket.
It is up to Obama to now put his money where his mouth is.
<<<<<For all of you who rage against Hillary Clinton on the ticket (and I have to wonder where you all were during the prosperity of the Clinton years), I hope that Obama is smart enough to realize that there is a significantly greater percentage of Clinton supporters (from numerous polls) who have said they're not willing to vote for the Democratic ticket if she's not the candidate vs. his supporters saying they won't support the ticket if he's not the candidate.
Best to you all.
wonderful
to think obama will win in november is the greatest joke of the century.hill please refuse any no 2 slot and prepare for 2012.
Hillary for Veep?
Hillary as Obama's Veep? No. More appropriate for her to run with John McCain. She's already agreed with McCain on Iraq and the gas tax, not to mention praising him for having passed the presidential "leadership test," whatever that is. And she's better looking than Joe Lieberman. Though not by much.
"who brought Pastor Wright to us"
Actually, no, Obama brought us "Reverend" Wright, and quite a few Americans are not going to forget that fact. Although, lord knows, he may prevail, this bering the weakest, most depressing slate of presidential candidates since Carter/Ford.
The winner takes it all
we must understand one point that barak oboma is a burn politician, i strongly trust and believe that he will definitely change America, let him choose whom ever the pleases him.

>>>>>>>
And then the people will chose whoever pleases them. Without Clinton supporters, I suspect he may find that more difficult than many people here are willing to admit
Obama/Clinton will destroy McCain
She has to the be the VP. Without her, Obama loses to Johnny Mac. Plus, I made two $50 bets at 6-1 and 9-1 odds that she'll be the D VP and the VP in 2009, respectively.
Go Veep Hillary! I need the $750!
People may be upset when Obama announces her as his VP but they will get over it. Imagine both of them being able to campaign on the same day in two different cities? It will be very effective. Any other VP (besides Gore or Edwards) will not be able to garner the attention that Hillary would bring to the ticket. And in the end, the Ds will not be able to bring themselves to pull the trigger for Mac.
Hillary as VP?
I voted for her. Yes, maybe she should be VP because it's only a matter of time before she becomes president by default. America is not ready for a Black man as president esepcially with his Muslim background. He won't be alive long enough to enjoy the presidency.
clinton legacy of evil
Do any of your people realy research these matters? Does any one read the Clinton circle of power postings? She was Vince Foster's lover for years. He did not commit suicide. Some knows and some one will talk one day and that will be the end of the Clintons. She "found" the rose law firm documents mysteriously. It was Hilary who insisted Janet Reno move on Waco. That was a church no matter how unorthodox. 84 people did not have to die at Waco and that brought about Oklahoma CIty. Both Bill and Hilary are evil people and anyone who takes the time to study and dig will discover that. She is the empress of evil running not for the good of the country or her party but to feed her ego. ANY woman who would be so emotionally bankrupt and have so little self esteem as to put up with all Bill's many philanderings, just to hang on to HER ego driven desire to not rock her own political boat, is a sick woman. Carpetbagging it to NY? These are sick and dangerous people. If Obama is elected with Hilary as a VP, he will be gone and she will be president before the first year is out. GET REAL people.
cALIgUY
People... think outside the box!!! How many times do you want to recycle the Clintons? Tell u what, why don't we throw the election process away and make the Clinton’s royalty. That way we'll just hand the thrown down to all their decedents. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! IT’S NOT THE 90S ANYMORE!!!
SHE’S NOT GOING TO WIN… NOT NOW, AND NOT IN 2012!!
SAY NO BAD PANTSUITS!!!
Hillary is the best candidate for the Presidency
Hillary is in it to win it. There is no reason on earth she would want the VP slot. Why?
1. Obama will turf her to some hole in the wall and marginalize her; Hillary will have more clout in the Senate;
2. Obama needs her supporters to win the election despite Donna Brazille’s rash comments;
3. As Obama’s VP, Hillary will never have the chance to run – she will be 68 in 2016;
4. Hillary can run again in 2012 (at age 64, she will still be younger than Reagan and McCain) – Hillary’s supporters will still be kicking to support her in 4 years;
5. Hillary can run as an Independent

Hillary and vice presidency
I think that Hillary should not go for the vice-presidency because she deserves to be the president. The process to get the chrism is complicated, something that favored Sen Obama.
Hillary is not born to be no 2 and she should avoid that.
I am from Greece as well and I live in UK. I would have to admit that I have never been fond of Mr G. Stephanopoulos. After all, if the economists knew everything, why didn't they predict the global food crisis, the oil price and even more, why don't they come with a viable plan of how to overcome all of these?
Hillary is right when she finds it unecessary to agree with the economists because she is more experience as a senator and she is practical rather than a theoritician, like most of the economists. They'd rather come up with a good plan than disagree with Hillary.
Sincerely,
Katerina
