Obama Really Is (Ted) Kennedyesque
"It turns out Obama really is the black Kennedy—but he's not Jack, he's Teddy," is how one economic conservative, in a chat with me, riffed on the common description of Barack Obama as the "black JFK."
What did he mean by that crack? This: Despite Obama's impressive oratorical skills and tremendous likability, his actual policy proposals are pretty much what Democrats have been running on for a generation: higher taxes on labor, capital, and corporations. (Recall that JFK pushed for sweeping income tax cuts.) More government involvement in healthcare. More regulation of business. Skepticism about free trade.
Now for a while there, people were touting Obama as the "Democratic Reagan," a liberal candidate who could fundamentally change the direction of the country while also bringing in voters who might disagree with him on policy but liked his optimism and "American-do" attitude. Indeed, many Republican activists I talked to worried greatly a few months back that Obama could win a huge victory next fall if he captured the nomination this spring. Those folks still think John McCain has an uphill battle in the general, but fears of an Obama deluge have greatly dissipated.
And it's not just the Wright-Ayers axis at work here. It's more that there's nothing particularly post-partisan or post-liberal about Obamanomics. (A cheer goes up from the folks at the Daily Kos.) There are no economic policy proposals that would make you raise an eyebrow and say, " Whoa, did a Democratic presidential candidate really just propose that?" (McCainomics, on the other hand, might leave your face stuck in a permanently surprised state. A cheer does not go up from folks at Red State.)
For instance, it would be so easy for Obama to come out for a big cut in the corporate tax rate. America currently has the second highest in the world, and a surprising number of Democrats think it's a big problem. In a recent chat with me, Rep. Rahm Emanuel, the fourth-ranking House Democrat, declared that he was "ready to do lower corporate taxes." Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel has proposed a cut in the corporate rate as did John Kerry during the 2004 election. And here is what economic analyst Sherle Schwenninger of the New America Foundation, a center-left think tank, told me recently:
You are going to have to lower the cost of doing business in the United States first and foremost by cutting the corporate income tax and perhaps even slashing it to zero over a period of time to make the U.S. a more attractive location.
Indeed, liberals in other nations have pushed lower corporate taxes for international competitiveness reasons while relying on income taxes as the preferred way to redistribute wealth. Heck, Obama could even "pay" for the cut through the $100 billion a year the government stands to take in from the cap-and-auction system it wants to force on business as a way of dealing with carbon emissions. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if this is one potential area of compromise between the next president and Congress.

Half Article
This post starts off very good with a lot of valid arguments for people who actually remember JFK and are knowledgeable about Teds budgetary politics (all 3% of the internet that is), but it doesn't seal the deal. It feels only halfway done and never closes back in on the origonal statement.
The carbon and corporte tax section seems totally out of place. It feels like we were in the middle of a conversation about a candidate and for no apparent reason just pulled a quarter from behind my ear. You didn't tie the corporate tax or carbon program to either Obama, Ted, or JFK. Its a good section but has no place in the article as is.

Obama Corporate tax cuts
The Democrats should recognize that corporations do not pay corporate taxes; the consumer does. Any increase and, hopefully, decrease will be passed on to the consumer. They should understand that oil companies are not making windfall profits. Their profit margin is usually lower than other industries. They make a lot of money but have to invest in exploration and sometimes spend tons of money on projects that do not pan out. A little common sense and an understanding of basic economics would help them a lot.

As an Obama support I somewhat agree that I'd like to see him proposing more fundamental changes. For example I'd like to see the tax code simplified by eliminating the different classifications of income and simply have "income", which would include capital gains, wage, pay-role, gift, etc. Then eliminate most deductions. Then, after doing that the brackets would need to be dramatically changed to greatly lower income taxes on the low end and greatly extend the brackets up beyond a million dollars a yea on the high end, going perhaps up to a $50 million tax bracket of 50%. People in America now have incomes in the BILLIONS of dollars a year, and they pay lower tax rates than people with incomes of $75K. We need to stop squabbling over the incomes of $200K etc., and acknowledge that the real issues are income sin the millions a year. $200K a year is still basically upper middle class these days.
I'd also like to see elimination of all tariffs and the replacement of the tariff system with a system of treaties that require human rights improvements, minimum wages and employee benefits with our trading partners. We should be using our economic power to improve working conditions around the world, not to drive nations to enslave their own workers to satisfy American demands.

I served my country and flew in Blackhawk helicopters in the Middle East. I can't tell you how nervous I was at being shot at from ground troops, even though we were flying in the air.
I say that to say this, Hillary & Bill Clinton should realize that you cannot make up "imaginary battle" stories (like the one she proclaimed in Bosnia) and expect our active military, veterans, and the family and friends of those veterans past and present not to be offended in how they are portraying themselves throughout this campaign!
The real "imaginary battle" (in Hillary's mind) is that she (HRC), can not win this political battle to be nominated as the DNC presidential candidate! She needs to stop taking pot shots at Obama, imaginary shots from enemy snipers (who are not there), and taking interest in politely exiting from the race and allowing the Democrats to win the next Presidency without the added controversy that has already distracted the voters into a lulled anger!
Personally, I think the Clintons are a force to be recognized; however, that doesn't mean "they" are the right couple for the White House at this time.
In the military, soldiers have to camouflage themselves to stay alive. We are expected to do harsh things on the battlefield because that's our job. We are the muscle of diplomacy as some might say. This is not expected of our leaders. They must be able to persuade and create positive change without losing their character or moral virtues. There's an old cliche' that says, "A leopard can't change it's spots" - but I guess the Clintons don't really believe that because Hillary and Bill keep changing spots whenever it conveniently camouflages their "real" position to voter opposition.
I think this sums it up the best, when there was a backlashing when Bill Clinton was in office, they called Jeramiah Wright and a bunch of other black ministers to help them with the political support they needed from minority voters. Jeramiah and Bill have pictures together they took of them in the White House; so, why is HRC & Bill trying to ride the old worn out strategy of divide and conquer with one of their old supporters? How's that for irony? Hillary, please, it's time to give it up! Nobody is shooting more blanks in this campaign as you. If you don['t believe me, ask your imaginary enemy snipers from Bosnia.

Obama is the latest in a parade of alleged "outsiders" who surface every presidential election year. This time the outsider is Obama. Last time it was Howard Dean. Before that it was Ross Perot. Before that it was Anderson, or Wallace, or McCarthy, or Carter. Except for Carter, none were elected. What Carter learned, but somehow failed to communicate to the American people, is that no single person, however gifted or charismatic, can ride into Washington and dismantle the entrenched government bureaucracy. Fixing the problems with Washington will require a dedicated effort by Congress and the White House, acting together, but we all know that that will not happen. First of all, much bureaucratic power stems from federal statutes or the secret "Code of Federal Regulations" (with which most voters are wholly unfamiliar) that prevent any actual change from taking place due to their binding authority. To clean up Washington, Congress and the President would be compelled to repeal or abolish thousands of arcane rules and statutes. In doing so, they would be opposed by the "ultimate special interest group" (i.e., the federal bureaucracy and AFSCME) .
Obama knows he cannot really change things, but he has mastered the rhetoric that appeals to the simple-minded among us. Indeed, I have heard (but cannot confirm) that "Barack Obama" is an African translation of "P.T. Barnum".
We must beware of "white knights" who promise to sweep into D.C. and "change" government. What we really need is, in the words of the old Beatles song "Revolution", is to "see the plan". We then need a Congress that is willing to act as well as a President. Unfortunately, the curent Washington mess was created by 42 years of Democrat control of Congress, it was not changed during a decade of GOP control, and now that the Democrats are back they just want to enlarge the bureaucracy while scampering around conducting witch hunts of lame-duck executive-branch Republicans.
In a nation of 300 million people, one would think we could find dedicated and honest leaders.

An Obama Presidency will be good for Wall Street and Main Street. I voted for Reagan, I voted for GH Bush, not this last Bush. So, called conservatives like to call Democrats tax and spend liberals. Well, I call GW Republican irresponsible conservatives. The Bush administration has so entrenched this nation into private and public debt that it is no wonder the economy is stressing so badly. You can't have two wars, allow predatory lenders to rule with impunity, allow OPEC and their Oil buddies to willfully restrict supply, allow China to grow at 11% and expect Americans to be better off than they were 8 years ago. George Bush's Presidency is a failure, any self respecting conservative should admit that.
Obama is the most qualified to improve the standard of living for Americans. I don't buy this high taxation idea. Class economics is poor management. Just like the recent gas tax break that Clinton and McCain "embraced"(even though they know is just trickery), Obama sought the voices of experts in deciding whether this idea was sound. I'm sure he will do what Ross Perot said he would do. If I'm not the expert in the subject I'll find those who are experts and make policy that is efficient and sound.
Bush's tax cuts have not really being tax cuts, they have been tools of income redistribution. You can see it in the prices we are all paying right now the inflationary pressures on everyday commodities, such as gas, food, health care, loans, and housing. So, what you rather have a few more points in your tax bracket or your home in foreclosure. Hey, everytime the US has gone to war taxes have risen in proportion to the cost of the war. This let the markets do whatever strategy, has created negative exponential effect on income and wealth for working and middle class families. Of course there are those who have had the knowledge and economic strength to play the market and make all kind of silly money. But for the few who have gotten richer, many more have gotten poorer. That's why Obama will be Obama and not the typical liberal that those who make the silly money want us to believe he is.

4 - Ron Brown - Secretary of Commerce and former DNC Chairman. Reported to have died by impact
in a plane crash. A pathologist close to the investigation reported that there was a hole in the top of
Brown's skull resembling a gunshot wound. At the time of his death Brown was being investigated,
and spoke publicly of his willingness to cut a deal with prosecutors.
5 - C. Victor Raiser II and Montgomery Raiser, Major players in the Clinton fund raising organization
died in a private plane crash in July 1992.
6 - Paul Tulley - Democratic National Committee Political Director found dead in a hotel room in
Little Rock, September 1992... Described by Clinton as a "Dear friend and trusted advisor."
7- Ed Willey - Clinton fund raiser, found dead November 1993 deep in the woods in VA of a gunshot
wound to the head. Ruled a suicide. Ed Willey died on the same day his wife Kathleen Willey claimed
Bill Clinton groped her in the oval office in the White House. Ed Willey was involved in several
Clinton fund raising events.
8 - Jerry Parks - Head of Clinton's gubernatorial security team in Little Rock. Gunned down in his
car at a deserted intersection outside Little Rock. Park's son said his father was building a dossier on
Clinton. He allegedly threatened to reveal this information. After he died the files were mysteriously
removed from his house.
9 - James Bunch - Died from a gunshot suicide. It was reported that he had a "Black Book" of people
which contained names of influential people who visited prostitutes in Texas and Arkansas.
10 - James Wilson - Was found dead in May 1993 from an apparent hanging suicide. He was reported
to have ties to Whitewater.
11- Kathy Ferguson, ex-wife of Arkansas Trooper Danny Ferguson, was found dead in May 1994, in
her living room with a gunshot to her head. It was ruled a suicide even though there were several
packed suitcases, as if she were going somewhere. Danny Ferguson was a co-defendant along with
Bill Clinton in the Paula Jones lawsuit. Kathy Ferguson was a possible corroborating witness for Paula
Jones.
12 - Bill Shelton - Arkansas State Trooper and fiancee of Kathy Ferguson. Critical of the suicide ruling
of his fiancee, he was found dead in June, 1994 of a gunshot wound also ruled a suicide at the grave
site of his fiancee.
13 - Gandy Baugh - Attorney for Clinton's friend Dan Lassater, died by jumping out a window of a
tall building January, 1994. His client was a convicted drug distributor.
14 - Florence Martin - Accountant & sub-contractor for the CIA, was related to the Barry Seal Mena
Airport drug smuggling case. He died of three gunshot wounds.
15 - Suzanne Coleman - Reportedly had an affair with Clinton when he was Arkansas Attorney
General. Died of a gunshot wound to the back of the head, ruled a suicide. Was pregnant at the time
of her death.
16 - Paula Grober - Clinton's speech interpreter for the deaf from 1978 until her death December 9,
1992. She died in a one car accident.
17 - Danny Casolaro - Investigative reporter. Investigating Mena Airport and Arkansas Development
Finance Authority. He slit his wrists, apparently, in the middle of his investigation.
18 - Paul Wilcher - Attorney investigating corruption at Mena Airport with Casolaro and the 1980 "
October Surprise" was found dead on a toilet June 22, 1993 in his Washington DC apartment. Had
delivered a report to Janet Reno three weeks before his death
19 - Jon Parnell Walker - Whitewater investigator for Resolution Trust Corp. Jumped to his death
from his Arlington, Virginia apartment balcony August15, 1993. He was investigating the Morgan
Guarantee scandal.
20 - Barbara Wise - Commerce Department staffer. Worked closely with Ron Brown and John Huang.
Cause of death unknown. Died November 29, 1996. Her bruised, nude body was found locked in her
office at the Department of Commerce.
21- Charles Meissner - Assistant Secretary of Commerce who gave John Huang special security
clearance, died shortly thereafter in a small plane crash.
22 - Dr. Stanley Heard - Chairman of the National Chiropractic Health Care Advisory Committee,
died with his attorney Steve Dickson in a small plane crash. Dr. Heard, in addition to serving on
Clinton's advisory council personally treated Clinton's mother, stepfather and brother.
23 - Barry Seal - Drug running pilot out of Mena, Arkansas, death was no accident.
24 - Johnny Lawhorn Jr. - Mechanic, found a check made out to Bill Clinton in the trunk of a car left
at his repair shop. He was found dead after his car had hit a utility pole.
25 - Stanley Huggins - Investigated Madison Guarantee. His death was a purported suicide and his
report was never released.
26- Hershell Friday - Attorney and Clinton fund raiser died March 1, 1994 when his plane exploded.
27 - Kevin Ives and Don Henry - Known as "The boys on the track" case. Reports say the boys may
have stumbled upon the Mena Arkansas airport drug operation. A controversial case, the initial report
of death said, due to falling asleep on railroad tracks. Later reports claim the two boys had been slain
before being placed on the tracks. Many linked to the case died before their testimony could come
before a Grand Jury.

Let me clarify for you since you are disappointingly uninformed. Obama is not for socialized medicine. The socialized medicine candidate is Hillary Clinton. Obama promotes PRIVATEhealth insurance with affordable premiums. Plain and simple. HRC is promoting socialized mandated health insurance. Be very clear about your facts if you are going to go spouting anti-Obama rhetoric.

The people who are against universal health coverage probably have coverage themselves. One poster likens it to being a slave to the government when in reality some decent, hard-working, play-by-the-rules tax payer winds up having to sell his home and forfeit his accumulated wealth over a lifetime (thereby leaving nothing to his kids) because he gets sick and either doesn't have adequate or recently cancelled health insurance (not to mention the insurance agencies being in the business of finding ways not to pay) so some doctor can throw a $10,000 birthday party for their spoiled brat of a kid, or drive 6 cars and 8 motorcycles. How many Ferrari's does one need in their garage?, how many pairs of shoes? (and by the way I am speaking from actual experience, I'm not exaggerating about the 10k b-day party or the vehicles)

Senator Clinton is not for socialized medicine and her health care plan is not a free government insurance. Corporations will continue to insure their employees, the uninsured will be offered appropriate and affordable insuranse plans, and the poor will continue to use Medicaid as they use it now, but with her plan everyone will be insured. Mitt Romney, the former Massachusets' governor provided every citizen of his state with health care, similar to Senator Clinton's. This is not a free health care as it is in all developed western countries, which are not socialist countries. Medicare is called a socialized program, and it doesn't mean socialism at all. I'm a Gerontologist and tend to know the difference.

I just want to respond to two points you made:

I think you might've missed the memo, but we currently have historically low corporate revenue collections. As a result, corporate taxes make up less of our gross domestic product than ever before. Corporate income tax revenues are lower in the United States than in most European countries. And how has all this worked out? We're in a recession and the Euro is thriving.
By the way, contrary to your claims that Obama wants to increase taxes on labor, Obama has proposed tax cuts for lower and middle class families. This is true, even if you stick your fingers in your ears, close your eyes, and shout "he wants to raise taxes, he wants to raise taxes, he wants to raise taxes."
"raising taxes" makes you sound ignorant
anyone that has studied economics knows that raising taxes hurts the economy in the long run. that is a fact. so, if you are for higher taxes please say "I want to hurt people because I feel they make more money than me." it will make you sound smarter.

Man, with a record like that under his belt, Bill could have single handedly been sent into Iraq 5 years ago and we could have saved over 4,000 US troops lives and this whole thing would have been finished in a week or two!! Race
As a European, it is interesting (and also sobering) to see, how large the racial gap still is in the United Stated 40 years after the (racially motivated) assassination of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy.
In a world that has never been as unified and globalized as today, the race issue still seems to cut right through the middle of your country, and it seems to enable a less than mediocre politician like Senator John McCain to open the door to presidency. Although people feel that President George W. Bush (and his aides) have pulled the image of the USA to an alltime low, they are still not openminded enough to accept a not-100%-white american as president.
A president McCain would be a desastrous message for the world, and this would clearly put the leading position of the United States at stake.
Europe Is As Racist As America
This for the comment from Michael of XX. As an ex pat American who has lived in Asia and Europe that despite the deep seated racial problems of Americam, Europe in my opinion is much worse. Unfortunately it is just a more deep seated and firmly entrenched system of racism. I saw serious racial problems in every country I either visited or lived in. Racist police treatment, 0% racial integration in employment, and housing, and 0% racial participation in the political process. Furthermore America has a better immigration program than any European country.
As bad as America can be it did not turn its back on an entire culture while the Nazi's murdered 6,000,000 Jews plus the all the other people the Nazi's killed! Do not fool your self the Europeans willingly capitulated to the mass murder of an entire race of people. Europeans have NO idea what civil rights or human rights truly means although they pay polite lip service to this topic. Both World Wars have been started by Europeans, The international slave trade started by white Europeans, The internatinal drug trade started by white Europeans, more acts of genocide of cruelty to human beings have been purpotrated by white Europeans, and dont forget this whole Colonial imperialism thing started by the racist and unelected "Monarchies". Lets also examine that whole monarchy thing.
How moronic it is to still pledge your allegiance to a person as the unelected head of your state simply by the luck of birth! It is the height of racist, elitist, anti-democratic and unprincipled value system which still dominates our world. Europe blames America for the World's problems yet takes no responsibility for their part in the creation of the current world order. Hmmmm you must be French.
OBAMA
It is chrystal clear that the Obama's (she wears the pants) are right out of the far left
marxist idealogy. Every signle far left looney tune Liberal idolizes him. Iran, Hugo Chavez and Al-Qaida will be dancing in the streets too when the spineless girlie man Obama appeases them Jimmy Carter style. Russia's Lenin wrote long ago that "western socialists were his useful idiots" !

Our Greatgrand Nation
Dear Fellow Americans,
Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America is and will face very critical and substantial "Challenges" in coming, months, years, and decades to come. It is very essential that we pick out our next President on following criteria in mind.
1. A candidate with "Vision and Mission".
2. A candidate with " Stable Character and Integrity".
3. A candidate with "Presidential Temperament" and
"stable Judgment".
4. A candidate with "little "Washington" exposure"
and "real connectedness with New Voters".
5. A candidate who "Inspires us up" rather than "Tears us down".
6. A candidate not based on sexism, racism, and
ageism.
In my professional and personal opinion, the only candidate who has the above qualities and characteristics and is also cool, calm, and collected is Senator Obama.
As an independent registered voter since 1980. I voted for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First Bush, and second Bush in 2000 and In the process last
interest in Washington politics as usual and I stopped voting.Not a good idea under any circumstance particularly at present.
This time we can not afford to stay on side lines and let Washington stay the same.We can not afford our Greatgreat Nation to become less than what we are and can be.
We need to send clear and candid message to the world and some 24 hour partisan hateful media. These media outlets are trying to deprive, dupe, and derail us from getting it right this time.
They are trying there best to deny us better rather than bitter future. { Our Greatgrand Nations people are persistently and constantly subjected to
Psychological terrorism" without their knowledge thru these hateful partisan media outlets.
We Americans are should not and would not to allow them psychologically terrorized, traumatized and silence us this time.
I am sure that we will get it right this time and elect Senator Obama our next President. let us not get dragged down into racism, sexism and ageism.
