Michael Barone Meets Barack Obama

Yes, it's true that I attended a dinner party at George and Mari Will's house last night with other conservative writers and Barack Obama. No, I'm not going to write about any of the details here; it was off the record, as such gatherings must be, if people are to get above the level of frankness that obtains in public statements. But my observations will affect my writing in the weeks, months, and years ahead. A miffed talk-radio host notes that George W. Bush and previous Republican presidents did not dine with liberal journalists on coming to Washington. That's not entirely true: The late Katharine Graham invited the Reagans and the George H. W. Bushes to dinner and cultivated a friendship with Nancy Reagan. But evidently no liberal journalist thought to send an invitation to the now outgoing president. Perhaps one should have.

Dinner with Obama

This is pretty much his modus operendi. This is just another way to ensure that there won't be any honest media types out there. I really love Barone and I will expect his dispassionate presentation of facts and thoughts. I do have some reservations because of this dinner. I will always have a suspicion now how honest and dispassionate Barone, Wills, and other conservative media types are. I have seen enough slavish idolatry at the Obama shrine.

Chow Down with Obama

Michael, daahhh, the purpose of the dinner was to influence (neutralize) your future writings. Mission Accomplished. Thanks for letting us know you will no longer be objective in your reporting.

Your impression of PEObama

But my observations will affect my writing in the weeks, months, and years ahead." In what way? Were you pleasantly surprised or disappointed? Do you think he will do a fine job or did you think he has much to learn and thinks too highly of himself? Your readers are not interested on what was said but we are interested in what way it will affect your writing. Please expand on your comment. I respect your opinion inmensely and would feel better if I had a sense of how you feel about him.
