It's Close as Can Be in Texas

February 26, 2008 09:59 AM ET | Michael Barone | Permanent Link

Via RealClearPolitics.com, here are the latest polls on Texas and Ohio:

In Texas, Rasmussen has Hillary Clinton ahead of Barack Obama by a statistically insignificant 46 to 45 percent, a result similar to the Washington Post/ABC poll showing her ahead 48 to 47 percent. CNN headlines its result, with admirable statistical modesty, as a tie, but it's Obama 50 to 46 percent. This is the first Texas poll with an Obama lead.

In Ohio the picture is different. Rasmussen has Clinton ahead 48 to 40; Quinnipiac has her ahead 51 to 40; the Ohio poll shows her ahead 47 to 39. It looks like Clinton's not huge, but statistically significant, lead is holding up in Ohio.

The bottom line: These are not numbers that would keep Hillary Clinton in the race. A victory by a microscopic margin in Texas would not, as I argued yesterday, give her any significant delegate advantage, and perhaps none at all. Her Ohio numbers are holding up, but even they don't, as I argued yesterday, give her much of a delegate advantage. And while they suggest she might prevail in later contests in Pennsylvania and Indiana, they say nothing to suggest she could win in North Carolina, where she is now well behind in a state whose Democratic primary electorate is looking a lot like Virginia's.

On Clinton's side, one does have to admit that the most recent national polls show Obama's lead over Clinton declining. Maybe Obamania is starting to fade, or to pall on those who were once enchanted. But he's going to have to fall some further distance toward earth if Clinton is to have any realistic chance of winning the nomination after March 4.

Anyone But Hillary

I continue to be mystified as to why Hillary, or any of her supporters, continue to attempt to use the argument that people should vote for her because she has more "experience." Let's break down the total amount of experience that Clinton and Obama have in elected government.

Hillary has a total of 8 years of service. 8 years in the US Senate.

Barack has a total of 12 years of service. 4 years in the US Senate and 8 years in the Illinois Senate.

Hmmmmm, and where is this massive experience gap that Hillary is trying to claim?

Oh yes, that's right, I imagine that she (and her supporters) would have you believe that her 8 years as first lady should count too. Except... "first lady" is a completely token position with no substance. Unless... you buy into her argument that she was in essence a covert "co-president" with Bill for those 8 years. But then, using that assumption, she then would attempt to get you to believe that she was only "co-president" regarding the good parts of the Bill Clinton presidency and she had nothing to do with the bad parts (e.g. NAFTA).

The most vital experience I see that she has is 16 years and counting as the lightning rod of the Republican Party. She would be a quintessential poster child for a "Get out the vote" campaign for Republicans. If she's the nominee, Republicans, Conservatives, Independents, Moderates, Reagan Democrats, etc would all be coming out of the woodwork to vote for McCain to keep her out.

Barack has more electability in his pinky finger than Hillary could ever hope to garner.

This is not a close race

I don't understand the logic that Clinton is "still in the race" if she wins Ohio and Texas. Unless her victory margins are big, Obama could still moot them with a landslide in Vermont. Does that mean Clinton is suddenly back in the race because she picked up a two delegates? The "change" election cycle, momentum, time, and also math are working heavily against Clinton right now.

DON'T VOTE OBAMA

I don't want a Muslim running the United States. He was raised Muslim and my fear is he is still a Muslim.

Narrow Minded Untruths

Donna - you clearly know nothing about Senator Obama or his background - i suggest you do some reading - provided you know how.

Seriously- it is people you like - fearful, narrow minded, misguided and probably uneducated who make people believe that all Americans are racist xenophobes.

You probably think Civil Rights was a bad idea too.

Stick to fact - not spreading gossip.

Barack wasn't raised Muslim

Barack's father was an atheist by the time Barack was born, and he left Barack's mother by the time Barack was two. There is no evidence he was "raised Muslim," and in fact, he received education in a Catholic school. He was a member of the United Church of Christ long before he even entered politics.

OBAMA IS NOT MUSLIM

Donna honey, Obama is not a Muslim. Please educate yourself before you vote. He was baptized in the Trinity United Church of Christ, and has been an active member for two decades.

Obama-mania

I live in IL. The man as done virtually nothing. Oh yeah, he did vote against the Infant Born Alive Act....disgusting.

Hillary's a Joke

The "experience" arguement that Hillary trots out is a complete joke. Her "experience" is repleat with failure (Arkansas school debacle, Hillary care - just to mention a few). Given that there is not much difference in policy positions, I think it is very dangerous to put a person with so much contempt for people as Hillary has, in a position of power. I for one, do not want to go back to the good ole days with Bill running around. We've had quite enough of that disgrace. She'll say / do anything - you may infer lie - in order to get elected. I'm also sick and tired of Hillary's blatant racism in this campaign. Time to move on.

Obama's lead

It actually seems to be increasing, with the USA Today/Gallup and CBS/New York Times polls showing him with double digit leads and over 50% for the first time. I don't know if these are right as they're quite a bit different from what we've seen before, but it doesn't appear to be getting closer nationally.

Of course, many of those polled have already voted, and some of them might have voted for Hillary in January or February but now like Obama better. In any event, Obama does seem for now to have the greater momentum and possibly greater electability.

obama

they refer obama to be a muslim.he is more christian than that idiot who made the stupid coment.i am a greek orthodox.that make me a muslim.n.

Obama will be a weak President

Read what CBS news (a relatively unbiased article) has to say about Obama’s record in the state and US senate:

Some telling points:

“Binder notes that Obama has spent his time in the Senate on "midrange issues," such as ethics reform and nuclear proliferation, where he could more easily find a Republican senator that would be open to working with him.

"He wasn't working on issues where you have hard Democratic vs. Republican divides," she said. "He seems to have very carefully chosen out areas where there were prospects of success and where he could find like-minded people across the aisle.”

“In a debate with Hillary Clinton last Thursday, Obama was asked to respond after his rival brought up an uncomfortable cable-television exchange in which an Obama supporter was unable to identify any of the senator's accomplishments. Obama cited his work on health care, providing tax breaks to families, reforming the criminal justice system, and passing "the toughest ethics reform legislation since Watergate."

"I don't perceive him as one of the chamber's liberal members," said Jennifer Duffy, a veteran analyst with the Cook Political Report. "I don't perceive him as one of the guys who goes down on the floor and rails about his pet cause."

Obama has been criticized for not taking a stand early in his career on some hot-button issues, including abortion: He voted "present" on abortion questions seven out of 14 times in the state Senate, including once when the issue was a statewide ban on so-called partial-birth abortion.

Binder said Obama's time in the Senate suggests that he seems "comfortable working across the aisle on some of these smaller type of issues." But she suggested there are few clues as to how effective President Obama would be in dealing with larger, more divisive issues such as the war, health care, and entitlement reform.

"Those are all issues where there could be bipartisan solutions, but it's a big challenge," she said.”

Also don’t forget the NYT article from earlier this month on Obama’s watered down nuclear waste bill (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/03/us/politics/03exelon.html?scp=1&sq=obama+illinois+nuclear&st=nyt) which he claimed to have passed but in reality, the bill was never taken up in the full Senate.

Obama is not a fighter, when the going gets tough, he bows out. He will be a weak president but that will not happen because McCain will win the Presidency in a match against Obama. Polls are fickle and unreliable - after all they only sample 1000-2000 voters at a time. All those Republicans who voted for Obama in the Democratic primaries will not vote for Obama in the general election.

Comparing Obama to JFK is ridiculous and JFK is not here to squelch that comparison: JFK was a war hero (a commander in the South Pacific during WWII), a Pulitzer Prize winner, served 6 years in the US Congress and 8 years in the US Senate before he became President.

experience

Obama has been a Senator for four years AND he decided to run for the presidency three years ago (his words). I am sorry with all do respect to Ill. 8 years in the legislature is far from being on the National scene. He did not voice his opinion on the national scence for then four years ago where his idea could be tested and vetted. HRC HAS BEEN IN THE nATIONAL LIOMELIGHT FOR eight years as Senator. She was also active in the Clinton administration trying to get healthcare passed. HRC had a voice in teh Clinton administration. She has visted countries as the First lady ambassador for the US. HRC has met and discussed things with wolrd leader. Obama has been to europe once I read recently. Gee who does that sound like. I know another disaster of a ppresident GWB. The us does not need another GWB in charge of foreign policy. A rookie novice empty suit!

Farrakhan praised his follower Barack Obama

Louis Farrakhan praised his follower Barack Obama. "We are witnessing the phenomenal rise of a man of color in a country that has persecuted us because of our color," the leader of the Nation of Islam, who many accuse of being anti-Semitic, said Monday at a rally in Chicago. This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better," Farrakhan said at the rallyObama's spiritual adviser, J Wright gave Trumpeter Award to a man it said "truly epitomized greatness. Louis Farrakhan. maybe for Wright and some others, Farrakhan "epitomized greatness." For Americans, Farrakhan epitomizes racism, particularly in the form of anti-Semitism. Over the years, he has compiled an awesome record of offensive statements, even denigrating the Holocaust by falsely attributing it to Jewish cooperation with Hitler "They helped him get the Third Reich on the road." His history is a rancid stew of lies. Any praise of Farrakhan heightens the prestige of the leader of the Nation of Islam. His anti-Semitism and particularly his false insistence that Jews have played an inordinate role in victimizing African Americans. Farrakhan's dream has vilified whites and singled out Jews to blame for crimes large and small, either committed by others as well or not at all. (A dominant role in the slave trade, for instance.) He has talked of Jewish conspiracies to set a media line for the whole nation. He has reviled Jews in a manner that brings Hitler to mind. And yet Wright heaped praise on Farrakhan. According to Trumpet, he applauded his "depth of analysis when it comes to the racial ills of this nation." He praised "his integrity and honesty." He called him "an unforgettable force, a catalyst for change and a religious leader who is sincere about his faith and his purpose." These are the words of a man who prayed with Obama just before the Illinois senator announced his run for the presidency. Will he pray with him just before his inaugural?

The New York Times recently reported on Obama's penchant while serving in the Illinois legislature for merely voting "present" when faced with some tough issues. Farrakhan, in a strictly political sense, may be a tough issue for him. This time, though, "present" will not do.

A number of Jewish and pro-Israel voters have raised questions about Barack Obama during the 2008 campaign. In case you haven't followed this ongoing issue, here's a brief summary of the complaints:

Obama hasn't distanced himself from Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. of his home congregation in Chicago, whose church's magazine gave an award to the notorious Louis Farrakhan. Obama has called for engaging Iran. Daniel Ayalon, Israel's former ambassador to the United States, told the New York Sun he is concerned Obama would want to negotiate with a "Hitler-like" regime. Some of Obama's policy advisors of various stripes, such as Samantha Power, Robert Malley, and Zbigniew Brzezinski, have come under attack for their views on Israel. World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder fears, it's only a matter of time before the president becomes anti-Israel Howard Friedman, the president of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, said the leading presidential candidate are all interested in continuing close ties with Israel. But yesterday's online frenzy about a picture of Obama in traditional Somali muslim garb brought these questions back to the fore Obama is a closet Muslim.

anyone but Obama

that greek orthodox comment made no sense... coming from another greek who supports Hillary 100%. I will not vote Obama in the general election if he happens to win. Hillary is the only reasonable choice. Second choice might be Nadar -- but I won't vote for Obama 'cause he's a charlatan, pretends to be someone he's not and is evangelical-scary.

No change, no science either

I am a Texan who works in Illinois as a scientist because that is where the high-tech jobs are or were. It is remarkable that so little attention has been paid by the media to Illinois' role in defunding critical science and technology. Our Sr. senator, Durbin, was directly responsible for the cuts in the omnibus budget that devastated science across the U.S. As thousands of scientists and projects leave for other countries, including China, our national security is compromised, not to mention our world leadership. Obama although absentee, as is common with him, works closely as a team with Durbin.

Obama has no record of change - zip, zero, nada in Illinois. He is bankrolled by the nuclear power lobby, banking, and other powerful special interests. This is all public record. He is the favorite son of the Chicago political machine. The mafia-like developer, Tony Rezko was his partner in community projects (Obama, Rezko, Ties again at Issue, Chicago Tribune). A nice background, Obama, Inc., in Harpers, can be found on the internet. Republicans control the media and like Obama because he never rocks the boat whether it is a cap on credit card interest, or protectionism for ethanol over sugarcane. Regulation on reporting radioactive leaks (Nuclear Leaks and Response Tested Obama in Senate, NYTimes)is another example of legislation allowed to die quietly in the Illinois Senate. If you are comfortable with pretty words and no action, then Obama is your man. Don't whine when the recession is allowed to run its course.

ughhh, dumb Obama ad banners

These damn Obama banners all over the online newspapers are sooooooo annoying. Please don't put this joker in the white house. If you want a celebrity sighting -- go to the movies!!!

Conservatives in Texas voting for HRC

A number of conservatives whom usually vote Republican, including hopefully everyone I know, plan to vote for HRC in the Democratic primary in Texas in hopes of prolonging the bloodletting.

Of course, I've always enjoyed watching girls fight.

Obama lemmings and the mob mentality

Obama talks a lot without saying anything. Emotional rhetoric and the word "unite" are not going to fix foreclosures or our healthcare system, and neither is Obama. He's a fraud and a showman, nothing more.

Obama has hidden agenda

Obama has written and spoken about being inspired by the preaching of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., and his calls to “spur social change.” The title of Obama’s second book, “The Audacity of Hope,” which essentially launched his presidential bid, was taken from a sermon by Wright.

Baptized in Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ, Obama has been an active member for two decades, regularly attending services with his family under Wright's spiritual mentorship.

Some of Wright’s sermons, which often address themes of white supremacy and black repression, have come under scrutiny by those who interpret them as racially divisive. Such preaching, they believe, polarizes Americans rather than unites them.

“Wright’s preaching does promote a sort of racial exclusivity,” said Michael Cromartie, vice president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington.

“Statements that suggest you cannot truly understand God unless you are black or poor are exclusive.”

Remarks attributed to Wright that were posted on audio files on the Internet and cited in press accounts earlier this year may have prompted the criticism.

“Fact number one: We’ve got more black men in prison than there are in college.

"Fact number two: Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run.

"We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns and the training of professional killers. ... We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God. ... We conducted radiation experiments on our own people. ... We care nothing about human life if the ends justify the means.

"And ... And ... And! God! Has got! To be sick! Of this s***!"

Click here to hear an audio clip of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.

Wright had been scheduled to speak at Obama’s Feb. 10 presidential announcement. But after news of the remarks were published, the senator apparently changed his mind the night before and chose the Rev. Otis Moss III, Wright’s successor at Trinity United Church of Christ. Moss declined the invitation.

A request for an interview with Wright was not granted. All requests for an interview were referred to the Obama campaign.

An Obama spokesman referred to Wright as “media shy," although Wright has routinely posted live webcasts of his sermons on Trinity United's Web site.

Obama met Wright after college while working with local churches in Chicago to tackle problems of drug abuse and unemployment in inner-city neighborhoods. Wright preached an Afrocentric theology that interpreted the Bible through shared suffering of African Americans.

For Obama, this experience was a spiritual turning point. He had been exposed to various faiths during his life but never formally adopted one until after meeting Wright.

“Inside the thousands of churches across the city, I imagined the stories of ordinary black people merging with the stories of David and Goliath, Moses and Pharaoh, the Christians in the lion’s den, Ezekiel’s field of dry bones,” he wrote in his memoir, "Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance."

Grammatics

Perhaps those who have rendered an opinion on whether HRC or BHO would be a better candidate... could you at least type with both hands?!

As a New Hampshire voter, and an Obama supporter, I would be remiss if I didn't remind the readers of this blog site that while serving as First Lady, HRC fired the entire White House travel office staff for covering up financial statements that she had previously approved, maligned several former and current DC-ites due to 'uncomfortable' personal interactions, and oh by the way, HRC stated that the voters of Iowa and all other caucus-voting states really don't matter because, as she states, voted in "an undemocratic way." Her words, not mine.

Enough with the Clinton-Bush years. Enough with the Republican platform for global disaster or embarrassment. Enough with this blog.

read the book

His first book is damn near genius. He is not a fake or a charlatan. He is a great combination: Left-handed, brilliant, inspirational, spiritual, comfortable in his own skin, and cool.

Clinton negative

The desparate and panic Clinton, now doing all sort of negative and dirty campaign, which is going to backfire- more negative by Hillary means more chances for Obama

Obama's background

People who think that Obama is not Muslim or hasn't relinquished those ties are obviously uninformed and sticking their heads in the sand. Muslims, whether from the Middle East or from the US (particularly the Nation of Islam) or not keen to support someone who doesn't agree with them and their beliefs. Case in point Louis Farrakhan. Aside from that fact, people who are looking for someone who makes them feel good by promising them things they want to hear will fall for anything. Like the woman who falls for the man with the line that gets her to give into what he wants - whatever that line is and whatever that desire might be; she is very naive. You think not?Call up your mortgage company, creditors, insurance company and see how effective your words will work: since you want to 'unite' they will find your words sufficient for business with them as well.

Obama is the Anti-Christ!!!

i Think this man is the anti-christ, i am trying to support this theory with evidence.... I felt his grip on me when i heard him speak the other day.... It was frightening i swear... I hope he never wins....I am a lifetime Democrat...i never voted republican in my life i will do so if he was chosen on the Democratic side.....

Obama will win

First, he'll beat Hillary.

Then, he'll beat McCain.

And I can't wait.

Hillary Clinton

YOU MIGHT BE AN IDIOT:-)

If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary's than they had ever been before or since.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..

Best regards

jacksmith...

Does the word Sleeper occur to any of you idiots who think this is the way for Free America (the USA). He does have that Hitler quality and look at what that madman did. How can anyone of you say that this Hussein is not a Muslim with all certainty if you don't spend 24 hours with him or better yet what the hell makes you believe in a man who is all talk and no deeds? Are you lemmings or do you just want to prove the world right about Americans being so stupid that that is why we lost the Towers. I am going to be laughing when the Muslims take your so called freedoms away and the blacks finally say NOW IT"S YOUR TURN WHITEY TO BE MY SLAVE.

Obama and Islam

Obama's church has honored Louis Farrakhan, the vitriolic Jew-hating, white-hating Nation of Islam bigot.

Obama's "spiritual mentor" in his church has praised Farrakhan.

Obama Wins!

Obama made the witch screech and claw, like the two-bit petty politician she is.

Obama makes the cut, wins big.

Obama all the way

People who have a problem with Obama's supposedly "Muslim" background, or his name, would be unlikely to have voted for any Democrat in the first place.

In Illinois, Obama's two most noted achievements show him interested in fighting for government transparency -- mandating videotapes of homicide investigations, and monitoring potential racial profiling by traffic cops.

Obama does not hold my views either

I suggest you look up Mr Obama's church and what it stands for. If I did not know better, I could swear I was looking at a script from Mr. Louis Farrakhan racist inflammatory bigotry playbook. This guy is the most liberal senator we have and does come close to holding views I value. I think the Obama supporters need to do a little back ground check into this guy. I wonder how he got his house at such a reduced rate when as part of the same deal now jailed Resko paid a premium for the lot next door. The press needs to do a better job of asking some hard questions of Mr. Obama.

The Best President: Barack Obama

I just want to say that Barack Obama want the best for America. It does not always depend on experience as classified as Hillary Clinton has the most experience. Having a vision of the future; have a eye that plans good things for America counts as well. As you have seen, Barack Obama has won the last 11 contest between Hillary Clinton and himself. Now why do you think he won those contests? Is it because they felt bad for him because he have less experience; is it because they think he is not ready; or maybe it is a race factor. It might be some of those I just named but most of those votes comes from the way he is touching average people around America. You see the huge numbers he have attracted as far as younger voters. They are getting involved into this election. I see him as a pathway for something properous in the future which is why he is seeking for change. Some say that they think that he is just saying that to get votes but the thing about it is that you will not see change with the first glance you take. It takes a belief that the country can change around with a leader who knows what he is doing. The main mission is to come together as Democrats and take over the White House in November. That is the goal that we should be trying to reach. I see Barack Obama as the future for America; the gladiator for change. Yes, Hillary Clinton has some things that is better than Obama but we have to realize that there is not a perfect person. He will have some flaws and she has some flaws. There is not a perfect candidate but there is a candidate who wants to make it right and put all differences aside between both Republicans and Democrats. Lets join together to support Barack Obama.

BS!

I'm getting sick and tired of supposed Democrats grouping the Clintons with BUSH!

If it wasn't for your cult-mentality you'd wake the hell up and remember that Clinton years were great for us and that we all just about cried when Gore didn't get to carry the torch for them!!!! Remember BUSH stole the election!

Why don't you just do Democrats a favor, jump ship now, vote republican! I mean all your boy Obama wants to do is "Get along" with them anyway! Screw that! I disagree with Republicans so I DON'T WANT TO UNITE WITH THEM.

Comparison to JFK

I read Wai from Mi, you said 2 main things I disagree with:

]* Obama does appear to be a fighter, he is not confrontational and attacking someone is not a trait we need as President. He decided he wanted to run for President and has put together a campaign and a team that is proving hard to beat. Thus, he had an objective - laid the ground work, picked good people and started to fight. To be that is a fighter, an intelligent one.

* You say comparing him to Kennedy is wrong, well JFK's daughter , borther and niece who knew JFK, say there is a comparison. I don't think you know him better than they did. Kennedy also put together a campaign, communicated his ideas to the people and got people of all ages involved. That is sort of what is happening now.

Hillary's missing tax return

Let's see.

A U.S. Senator is paid $169,300 a year. Hillary was unpaid for her eight years as first lady. She wrote a book awhile ago. Where did the $5,000,000 come from that she "loaned" her campaign? What is on her tax return that she is trying to hide? Interested voters want to know.

Bill in the White House

What is Bill going to do to keep himself out of trouble if he is elected as First lady? Please- no more Clintons or Bushes. This country cannot withstand anymore politics of division. Send the lobbyists home for good. Barack Obama 2008

Obama

Yes Donna if you read his books you would actually learn something about where Obama was born and where he was raised. The guy is an original thinker, authentic, deep and knowledgeable.

It's a refreshing change, after 8 years of Dubya's anti-intellectualism. I WANT a president who can read. And you as a voter have a responsibility to get educated too, not to mindlessly blather off incorrect information.

I hope Billary isn't thinking that she can hang on by the skin of her teeth in Ohio and Texas, try to count Florida and Michigan delegates in her beauty contest "win" in those states and keep dragging this thing on while McCain gears his campaign up. Billary, it's over. Get out while you can with whatever remaining dignity you can muster.

Obama - The easy choice

The Clintons were ok for America. Our standing in the world continued to decline as far as the Clinton administration being all over the place on foreign policy, but they did a pretty good job with the economy. However, there were so many side issues with their sleazy dealings (including Clintons' pardons on the way out), that Bill is not regarded as better then an average president. Leading to the famous Simpson's episode in which Lisa is saying that it is not a very good example to change the rules so she could win a band contest and Bill Clinton says "But I am not a very good president"

The Conservative media, Clinton's, Far Right Republicans have been trying to indicate Obama has no substance is only paying attention to the speeches shown on the nightly news. Just because he is inspirational somehow means he has no substance. All you have to do is pay attention to his issue papers he has filed on topics ranging from global warming, energy reliant issues, health care, education, etc. and pay attention to the debates then you realize he has stands and plans for a full range of issues.

His record is extensive from working as a Constitutional lawyer for 10 years (so he understands the Constitution better then our current president who regards the Constitution 'as a piece of paper'), has worked in the Illinois legislature for 8 years, and a Senator in Congress from Illinois for about 3 years. Obama was able to accomplish more in the Illinois legislature because he was there longer, but also the first 2 years in Congress were controlled by the Republicans so we thwarted quite a bit as were most democrats

McCain is a good candidate but his stands on conservative issues like the war and tax cuts for the wealthy rule him out. We do not want to continue the failed policies of the Bush administration either in foreign or domestic policy

As George Will weighs in on the experience debate, he states that James Buchanan had tons of experience before he was elected president and is now regarded as one of the worst presidents ever, and there was a one-term Senator from Illinois who became to be considered one of the best presidents ever - Abraham Lincoln

The Obama Phenomena

Bush inadvertently opened up the possibility for the historic political race we have today. Anyone would seem a savior after the last seven years. Who could have guessed that a competent intelligent woman and a charismatic intellectual black man would make themselves available for the Presidency simultaneously? After six months of following all the candidates (from both parties and a few lesser known independents) around, in Iowa, in order to ask pointed questions and look them directly in the eye when they responded and, having observed their campaign spending habits first hand, Obama's my choice. Never have I seen such a thrifty and efficient juggernaught of an organization spring up, seemingly overnight, on behalf of any candidate in my fifty plus years of life. I thank Edwards for the fine Hollywood entertainers and Hillary for the free Milk Shakes at the Drake Diner following the exciting opening night flood lights in front of the little Varsity Theater for a showing of thier silly mini documentary of the Clinton Campaign thus far which "premiered" near Drake Campus in Des Moines, but I'm casting my vote for the organization that refused to give me a big lawn sign because my house is not on a highly visible route. You give Obama money and it will be spent WISELY.

What really bothers me after reading some of the comments is that some of the extremist views and the narrowmindedness of some of the people. Just remeber there are bad muslims and also good muslims, like any other religion. Remember Hitler was a christian.

Negative Comments Against Hillary

I cannot forget the first time I ever heard Hillary talk on 60 minutes. I thought her "baking cookies and Tammy Wynette remark was the most hickish thing I ever heard." I also thought the line "right wing conspiracy" was the tackiest talk ever said by anyone who was supposed to be somebody. Doesn't she know she is married to a womanizer. I really think she blew it when we had a chance for health care in the nineties and she completely ruined that. Really people,,, I know of nothing she can do. I never felt more embarrassed (as an American) than I did when Bill was caught in the White House with Monica and the cigar. He was later impeached and didn't even have the gaul to resign and regain some pride for America. I really don't know Obama that well but I do know what the Clinton's stand for (nothing). I'll take my chances with Barack and naturally wish you would too.

Another vote for Obama

I am a trusting person but I find it hard to trust Hillary. Her laughs were irritating, put on, a fake, and she could not get her campaign in order when her mantra is: ready to be president on day one! A pity to America if she gets elected! Here's another vote for Obama!

Town Hall in Duncanville, TX With Obama!

We just returned from an awesome Town Hall Meeting in Duncanville, TX with Obama and he was magnificent! I actually love Bill Clinton and Hillary but think it will be next to impossible for her to win against McCain. I'm sure that the Republicans have already arrange for Swift Boat-type ads against Hillary on everything from Whitewater to Monica to distract the voting public from the important issues we are facing. It would be very hard for Hillary to keep on message while defending Bill and the Past. Bill was a GREAT President in our opinion, but the times today demand a new face and a new perspective. Today's problems are a result of George Bush's terrible policies, educational ignorance, and just plain bad judgment. We need an inspirational, intelligent, and educated leader who has no past baggage to overcome! Barack Obama is that person and we hope he will be our nominee and that he will win the Presidency! VOTE OBAMA!

Hillary's modes

Hillary, at her age I would assume is past menopause, so I was wondering why all the mode swings...i.e. anger, euphoria, screaming, crying, calming "everything will be alright". Could it be mode enhancing drugs? For instance, Prozac or something similar?

The Voice of Reason

For those of you advocating that Senator Clinton should drop out of the race, I have a question for you: If you were behind 3.5% in the voting, and behind by the same margin in the delegate count, as Senator Clinton is, would you drop out of the race at this point?

Let me answer that question for you: No, you wouldn't. And anyone suggesting she should is...well...an idiot.

For those of you Obama kool-aid drinkers out there who can't fathom why anyone wouldn't be in love with the patron saint of hope and change, let me explain it to you in simple English: Barack Obama is a duplicitous liar and a fraud.

He campaigns as the candidate of hope and change. He states regularly that he doesn't take money from registered federal lobbyists. I've got some bad news Senator Obama; we are not illiterate. The LA Times reported last year that BO takes plenty of money from lobbyists. He's just found clever ways of doing it while maintaining the pose of purity. For those of you who don't believe me you can read all about it here:

http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/04/22/681/

Oh, and lest we forget, the Change Messiah is also going back on his pledge to accept public financing for his presidential campaign (should we be unfortunate enough to see him nominated). So much for taking on the lobbyists.

Let's move on shall we?

Let's talk about Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. Senator Hope received Farrakhan's endorsement this past week. But the Great Unifier has refused to condemn him as the racist Jew hater that he is. He refused to condemn the Nation of Islam as a racist, and anti-semitic organization; even as he panders to American Jews telling them he is a firm supporter of Israel (which he is not...more on that in a moment), and that they having nothing to worry about concerning Mr. Farrakhan (who referred to Judaism as a "gutter religion").

Senator Change has been a member of a church for 20 years that is led by a man who named Louis Farrakhan his man of the year. Did Senator Obama make a firm statement against this? Did he demonstrate his disgust for this show of support to a known bigot by leaving the congregation? No, he just agreed to disagree. The Great Unifier would rather not alienate the NOI racists, and their supporters because he needs their votes. Rather than condemn racism, as was done by his supposed role model, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (whom Obama has likened his message to), he tacitly supports it.

BTW Jane from OH, I don't accuse Farrakhan of being anti-semitic. I've seen him speak; he IS anti-semitic.

But the pandering is not left solely for the NOI. Prior to running for the Senate, BO was very much anti-Israel, and supported the Palestinian cause to the point of sacrificing Israel's security. But when he ran for the Senate he realized that American Jews are a larger, and wealthier voting block than Palestinian Americans. So he abandoned them and now calls Israel's security, "sacrosanct." Any Jew who believes Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state, and has already voted for Obama, ought to have a deep feeling of buyer's remorse right about now.

Now I will concede that all the candidates lie about something. All the candidates pander. All the candidates take money from the special interests. What makes Obama worse than the others is that he's sold you a bill of goods called, "Change you can believe in." He says he's different. He says going to change Washington, when in fact he is playing the same dirty, lying games. The difference is that he's found a new way to do it. That must be the change he is referring to in his speeches.

But there is an alternative. If you want real change, if you want a candidate who really doesn't take special interest money, who believes America's greatest days are ahead and not behind then look no further than Chester Hopewell. Everything's going to be fine.

about Obama

This Obama phenomena is over. Now we know he is a member of this fanatical racist group that hates everybody except themselves. He denounced Farrakhan but not his mentor, Rev. Wright who have the same ideology as Farrakhan. He wants to unite us, i don't think so.

"Follow the Money"

There is a common fact in politics...that if you want to know what will command, motivate, stimulate and ultimately direct a candidate...just follow the money...! If by comparision any of you faith/hope/basket-waiving fans of Barack, ever wish to peek into a future look of our nation? Please take the time to study the corporate "backers" of Barack. Can you spell N-U-C-L-E-A-R???? Illinois has the largest number of nuclear plants in the entire nation and with Barack's help we will be a nation whose enemies "beg" to provide these obvious targets for future attacks-nuclear plants! Barack has received Millions of Dollars from the Nuclear Power Corporations. FACT-not-FICTION!!!

Wake up kids...this can be a fatal decision for all!!!!

FYI...John McCain has also recieved a substantial amount from these same donors!!!

Hillary refused their endorsement!

obamination

obama and his drooling idiot followers are an abomination! he is the antichrist.... BEWARE BUYERS!

In defense of the word "unite"

To the person who wrote:

"Emotional rhetoric and the word 'unite' are not going to fix foreclosures or our healthcare system, and neither is Obama. "

Actually, I would beg to differ. The fundamental problems with our country (health care, social security, foreclosures, etc, etc) aren't going to be solved with 50 percent plus 1 of the vote. I think we learned that with the health care debacle during the 90s when the Clintons not only had the White House but also comfortable majorities in both houses of Congress.

For anything of great consequence to be done in this day and age, you need to assemble a broad coalition, which is to say the people need someone who can be a unifying force in this country. Is Obama that person? I don't know; decades of partisan rancor have so poisoned the body politic that I'm not sure anyone could. But, at least he's trying.

Clinton, on the other hand, has run a campaign based largely on the premise that she's the most ready to fight the opposition tooth and nail on day one. That's fine, except that, given a choice, I'd rather not fight the opposition; I would rather try to persuade and co-opt them to my side--or at least the reasonable members of them. I'm tired of the fear-mongering, the demonization of one's political enemies, the arbitrary distinction about who is "significant" and who isn't, and most of all, the endless finger pointing.

The Clintonites tell me this is how it is, how it's always been, and how it always will be. Maybe. Certainly, I've accepted that in all the past elections that I've participated in, but I see where it's gotten us.

Obama is relatively new to the national political scene, but he's smart, has shown a remarkable learning curve, has shown mastery of the ability to blunt cheap attacks, has managed the most impressive and effective campaign operation that I've seen in my lifetime, and substantively shares 90% or more of the policy positions of all the mainline Democratic contenders from Clinton to Biden to Edwards.

But, his approach is something different, "naive" as the Clintonites suggest. So I say, if Obama is indeed a "roll of the dice," then let them roll!

IF SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON BECOMES PRESIDENT

If Senator Hillary Clinton becomes president of the United States it will mean that we would have had a Bush followed by a Clinton , then another Bush followed by another Clinton as presidents. America is a very big country ,has America run out of the "gene pool" for potential presidents?
