Ohio and Texas Trend to Obama

February 22, 2008 12:32 PM ET | Michael Barone | Permanent Link

The latest poll numbers from Texas and Ohio are not good news for Hillary Clinton. The realclearpolitics.com average has her ahead of Barack Obama by only 49 to 46 percent. She leads by a statistically insignificant 48 to 47 percent in the ABC/Washington Post poll and 47 to 44 percent in Rasmussen.

ABC/WaPo has the following ethnic breakdown:

  Clinton Obama
White women 56 39
White men 43 53
Blacks 18 76
Hispanics 59 36

Rasmussen has:

  Clinton Obama
Whites 52 39
Blacks 17 74
Other 56 35

These are pretty ominous numbers for Clinton, particularly since Texas selects 127 delegates in the primary but also an additional 67 in caucuses that evening. There are nearly 1,000 caucus sites, and Obama should have a huge organizational advantage.

In Ohio, ABC/WaPo has Clinton ahead by 50 to 43 percent. That's better for her than Texas but hardly an insurmountable lead. Particularly if Obama has a 3-1 or 4-1 advantage in TV advertising, as he did in Wisconsin.

Here's an interesting counterfactual. What if Obama had not run? Then Clinton would probably have had the kind of lock on black voters that Obama has now (but didn't have, at least in heavily polled South Carolina, up through December: See the latest December survey by SurveyUSA). John Edwards would not have been much of a competitor for black votes: He was getting just about zero black votes all the way through in his native state of South Carolina. Clinton would have carried the southern states Obama carried, without much effort, with overwhelming black support.

Or suppose that the black vote remained split between the two candidates, as it was in South Carolina throughout 2007? Clinton would have run much better and would probably have clinched the nomination on Super Tuesday. Did Bill Clinton throw away black votes by his campaigning in South Carolina? As satisfying as it may be for Clinton haters to assume so, I think another factor was very much in play: Obama's victory in nearly lily-white Iowa. That gave many black voters assurance that white voters wouldn't reject a black candidate. Iowa in effect made the Deep South Obama country rather than Clinton country. Would Clinton have been better off skipping Iowa, as some on her staff recommended last summer? Maybe, maybe not. If Edwards had beaten Obama in Iowa, she probably would have been; but who knows? Then maybe Obama would have won in New Hampshire (where Edwards was never strong), with the same effect as in Iowa. It's beginning to look like Clinton and her strategists will have plenty of time to mull over these counterfactuals.

Nomination race

Hillary should just drop out now and safe face and dignity.

She should lose graciously. Step aside like John Edwards.

It's time for her to show some class if she had any.

Texas

When the election takes place, Obama will win. POlls do not interview many independents and blacks who are for Obama. I call them the hidden poll.

Dott Koch Phoenix

What good are polls?

I see black, white, hispanic but no indians, asians, martians, klingons, and autobots. What gives? Way to divide the country. I realize the MSM is stuck on the race issue but what is the purpose of the polls? Why should any vote? We should let the polls decide who will get the nomination. Hard to believe company's get paid for a random sample of 100 individuals opinions.

Presidential Leadership for Now

It is not a question of who is dedicated to civil service and committed to allowing access to opportunities for Americans and others around the world. It is obvious we have two individuals, Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama, who are eager to open the dialogue between those with differing viewpoints within our country and abroad in order to create solutions for the many domestic challenges we have as well as our standing on the world stage.

The question is who is best suited to assume leadership of our country in 11 months? The question is who is best suited to structure an administration in less than 3 months from the national election in November to the inauguration in January in order to focus immediately on the issues at hand? The question is who is best suited to take on international affairs with tact and the knowledge of complex diplomatic structures and cultural intricacies without diminishing the reputation our head of state, the President of the United States of America? The question is who is best capable to assemble and administration that can effectively lead and establish an agenda to unify dozens of departments and agencies? The question is who can lead global diplomatic efforts to avoid military solutions that risk the lives of our troops and civilians alike, to diminish the efforts of terrorist and to improve the lives of people around the world?

In my opinion the answer to these questions is Hilary Clinton. She has the many years of experience that includes failures from which to learn. She has the broad personal and professional network from which to draw upon to structure an administration with ease. She has travelled the world as a senator and as the first lady representing our country and met with many world leaders. She has the knowledge of the finite facts and figures necessary to make the appropriate leadership decisions.

The answer is not Barack Obama yet! His opportunity will be in 8 years.

Obama will be our next President. Hillary can't even manager her own campaign, voted for the war, has people do dirty work as in old politics, claims plagiarism, yet does it herself, she acts like a child in many ways when things don't go her way. The Bush-Clinton-Bush era is over, and it's time for a brand new generation of politics, one of not polarizing effects, but reaching out. We will be viewed differently across the entire world, not like the war hungry image people see us now.

You got to be joking - if she can not even run a campaign then how can she possibly run the goverment ???? I seem to recall she did not do well with Health Care either.

Good comments

To Gary F of NY, thank you for your comments. Although I don't agree with you on Clinton, I'm glad that provided constructive comments rather than mean invective and unfair criticism that a lot of Obama and Clinton supporters alike pile onto the other candidate.

I hope we all can discuss, argue, and build a consensus in this fashion instead of tearing each other down. Seeing the blogs and comment sections on so many articles on the web absolutely explode with unreasonable and plain vicious talk really gets in the way of having good conversations about this important issue. So thanks to you and others for putting forth the real questions and talk that we need to be having.

Clinton fired her campaign manager because she was not doing the job and instead applauding her for knowing when to change course people blame her still. I think it is a great quality to have and not be afraid to take chances and make changes even in the middle of the battlefield.

Everything that makes her perfect for the presidency people find fault with. She is too much of a fighter. She doesn't know when to give up. She is tenacious. She doesn't mind putting herself out there. These are not faults, they are things to be admired

Who wins?

If you look at Hillary in terms of her judgment (vote to invade Iraq with all it's dire human and economic consequences), Obama wins. If you look at Hillary in terms of her mismanaged campaign finances and tactical errors and general inefficiency of her campaign, Obama wins. She tried to forge healthcare reform in 1992 and reportedly could not work well with people then. Her current healthcare plan is devoid of consideration for those many Americans who simply and truly cannot afford to be forced to buy health insurance. She is bright and she has more U.S. Senate experience. but I she caves to special interests, caves to the Bush Military Industrial machine (her recent vote for the anti-Iran agenda), and does not have the backbone to help lead America out of it's current situation.

Obama

Obama is able to do something that Hillary cannot: articulate a vision for America. Hillary's vision for America? Non-stop fighting with the Republicans. Her selling point is that she's the best fighter.

What about ending the fights? Ending the fights does not mean capitulating to the Republicans. It means creating a working majority to get legislation passed. And the way to create a working majority is by getting people involved in the political process. Obama has the ability to mobilize people, especially young people, through hope and inspiration.

Having an engaged, active citizenry who can not only visualize change, but who are motivated to do the work necessary to achieve it, is the only way to move America forward.

Hilary isn't well suited

I am not satisfied with Hilary's claim of 35 yrs experience and readiness to be president on day one. The latest report on her political and campaign management failings are in my view an indication of her poor judgement. How is she gonna be able to manage the economy if she isn't even able to manage her campaign finances? All she is good at is attacking Obama with negative ads that seem to backfire.

All those who have been her supports will soon look stupid because she will never be president of the USA. Obama is gonna win in Texas. She will win in Ohio. Afte that, she's finished. Mark my word. You will remember this in weeks to come.

The Texas Debate

Best debate ever!!!

Watching Obama wipe the floor with Hillary as she fires petty cheap shots $0

Watching Hillary squirm as the reality sinks in - Obama has more common sense in his pinky finger that she has in her whole body - and he's finally not afraid to show it $0

Learning that the only decent point Hillary made in the entire debate - in the last 2 minutes - was NOT genuine or heartfelt, but actually a plagiarized phrase that she stole from John Edwards... PRICELESS!

She had this one coming.

On a serious note

RE: TRENDS... This trend is not new. In every state, Obama is way behind in the beginning, but he always wins in the end. When he gets in there and speaks to the people, it's like magic.

RE: THE DEBATE... There were several high points for Obama (the "silly season" remark, his urge to "tone down the rhetoric" on immigration, and pointing out that Clinton's Health Care Plan is failing right now in Massachusetts).

But my favorite seems to have gone mostly unnoticed. On the issue of commander in chief, Obama scored big! Two specific (2) issues arose - the Iraq War and the recent election in Pakistan - and Obama handled both masterfully. Again, he proved his readiness, in part by showing strength and confidence in his response, but also by simply reiterating his proven track record of good judgment.

He opposed the Iraq War, and he warned against "putting all of our eggs in the Musharraf basket." He was right on BOTH issues.

Barack Obama

Senator Obama's opponent insists that he is too young and inexperienced to be President of the United States. She claims to have had "35 years of experience," but most of that “experience” was not as an elected official but rather as the wife of the Governor of Arkansas and as the wife of the President of the United States. Actually she has had 7 years experience as an elected official having been elected to the US Senate from her adopted state of New York in November 2000.

Barack Obama was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1996 where he served 8 years prior to his election to the US Senate in November 2004. As an elected official accountable to voters his combined experience as an Illinois State Senator and US Senator is 11 years.

During the 1960 Democratic primary elections then Senator John Kennedy was also told he was too young and inexperienced to become president, and by such notable members of the "old guard" at the time as Eleanor Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Adlai Stevenson, and Lyndon Johnson. Kennedy was told to wait his turn! But, of course JFK won the 1960 Democratic primary and went on to defeat Richard Nixon in the general election despite Nixon's protest that "Kennedy is too young and inexperienced to be President." It wasn't true then about John F. Kennedy and it isn't true now about Barack Obama.

Consider Abraham Lincoln’s political career before he became President of the United States: In 1834 at age 25 Abraham Lincoln won election to Illinois state legislature and subsequently served a total of 8 years from 1834-1842 during which time he taught himself law and was admitted to the bar. In 1847 he was elected to US House of Representatives serving a single term from 1847-1849 before returning to private law practice in Illinois. On October 16, 1854 a 45 year old Abraham Lincoln delivered a powerful speech against Slavery in Peoria, Illinois and in 1858 was elected to the US Senate, just 2 years before being elected President of the United States in 1860. Not much “Washington Experience” for “Honest Abe” either but he sure made a great president. Could it be that one’s character is a lot more important in being President than having a lot of “Washington Experience?”

Senator Obama has served in Washington long enough to understand what needs to be changed and unlike his opponent he has already begun making changes by refusing to accept money from lobbyists and political action committees. He is proving that being beholden to such money peddlers is not necessary. He raises money for his campaign directly from the people to whom he is accountable, people like you and me.

Hillary Clinton Wins

I am a Canadian. I did however serve in the American Army and served in Nam.

America hasn't changed politically jn the years since. You aren't inclined to elect the best person for the job (Reagan the anomaly). It's a contest of poularity backed by millions of dollars in ads and promotion. The press a;lways plays the pivotal role of influencing those that are less than informed (the majority).

This year it is a race based mostly on race. If Obama were white he would lose. You can't ignore that. he has not faced the constant attacks by the liberal press for two reasons. First most in the media fear the Clinton not out of a patriotic allegence but out of the fact that Bill and hillary can walk all over them. Secondly the press is afraid of alienating a united black community. this fear goes back a while and puts a bias on their comments and support. It is true that Barrack attracts whites as well as blacks but he has a free pass in any primary that has a substantial black population. the reason he does well in small white states is that no one other than his on the ground team has ever placed any significant attention to them.

As Canadian I urge you to elect the best person for the position not one who is great at the interpersonal action of electioeering but someone who we can trust with our well being and safety.

Obama, Edwards are junior candidates. Clinton because of her experienced husband can and will be a great president and leader of the free world. You are all too hung up on His dalliances look to other countries-France, Canada (Trudeau) and many european powers they pay attention to Leadership and not sexual prferences.

ELECTION REFLECTION

Integrity, intelligence, leadership and change! That's Obama! Go Obama! Vote Obama! He would be a great asset to this country and to ALL AMERICANS!

Hillary should concede now and seek VP status

This is a legitimate movement, avoiding negative campaigning, raising hope. Hillary's Iraq war vote alone shows that she would play good ol'-boy, old-money politics again. Neither Hillary nor Obama has any true military experience, nor do they need any. That is why the President has the advice of the Pentagon and cabinet. What we are electing is not the best Washington or military insider, but the better moral compass and idea generator. The rest is done by staff. I would hate to see the legacy of Hillary's candidacy be the continuation of good ol' boy negative politics. She should concede now, while there is still time to come out a winner, and become the obvious VP candidate. The combined momentum would be unstoppable. Don't give McCain any more ammo Hillary! Don't do it!

Obama Rocks!

Obama is already appointed leader. The first black president of the Harvard Law Review and the only black man in the US Senate... No devil can stop Obama from becoming the fist black President of the United States of America. America, are you ready for a black President?

and lest I forget...Texas is Obama country and rich in delegates :)

Neither Obama nor Clinton

Will Americans find it acceptable that a black man or a woman should be their commander in chief?

Polls elicit one type of answer, the total anonymity of the polling place brings out the truth.

Anyone who thinks Obama or Hillary can become Commander in Chief will wake up to reality in November, when the final tally is revealed.

Two good candidates; one great campaign

Obama is obviously a very bright guy who has a history of effective organization. I hope he can put us back on the track we seemed to veer off during our last chance at transformational greatness.

All R Better

Emotions run high and there's a lot of candidate bashing by loyalists from the McCain, Obama, & Clinton camps. It's natural enough ... choices need to be made.

Bottom line, thought, is that whichever of these three candidates takes the oath of office our nation will have been delivered from the more ruthless faction of the Republican right wing. America's foreign and domestic policies have been in the wrong hands for too long.

Any of these candidates will work to redeem our nation's reputation over seas. Any of these candidates will start work on health care, amendments to more equitable tax codes, and a retreat from illegal government screening of American citizens.

Pick your favorite but remember, after the Bush presidency, you'll be happier with whichever one we elect.

Obama's logo speaks for himself. Hope, opportunity, and change. A bright new day! Vote for Obama, and together create a bright new day!

Oba,a will win because people like him. People don't like Billary

Thousands of words can be written about this race so far, and have been. One factor that has been touched on but not sufficiently in my opinion is the "Likability" factor. People, including MANY white men just "like" Obama. Billary has ALWAYS had a HUGE amount of people that simply don't "like" her.

it's a personality problem that she has never been able to, and probably still cannot, overcome. a signifigant amount of people, for many and varying reasons just don't like her.

And people do not elect people that they don't like.

To MB

First, if you were really in the army, you would know that it is called the "United States Army", and NEVER the "American Army". Secondly, "sexual preferences" is a synonym for "sexual orientation" NOT a gender preference in politics. We don't want 4 more years of Clinton scandals. I suggest that you stay on your side of the line.

To MB

You definitely displayed your prideful ignorance. Therefore your comment

really does not deserve my time! Although you did accomplish ticking me off tonight! I am thus led to call you a "POMPAS REGENERATED HINEPART"

with nothing on its shoulders.Although there does remain the air between it. Which in turn, leaves me desiring to kick a football right down the middle.

President of the World

I am not an american. But I see and read from media that people from all over the world like Obama so much. So why don't you, Americans just vote for Obama that can be a president of world people's heart not just Americans'?

Lincoln was not even a US senator

To Robert of CA.

Fact is Lincoln actually *lost* the Illinois senate election in 1858 (back then the state legislature elected the senator). But he did so well in the debates with Douglas that the Republicans chose him as presidential candidate.

Like father like son

Remember what the ''Bush family'' era has brought to the American people.

People around the world keep asking themselves if in electing George W. Bush the American people were trying to find out whether a son can learn from the mistakes of his father.

If that was the case then the lesson is once again on your hands but this time you are trying to find out if a wife can learn from the mistakes of her husband.

Dear American people, if you believe Mr Clinton fared well in his term of office as president of the United States of America then give his wife Hillary the chance to lead your great country.

Otherwise do not expect miracles from her. Like father like son and like Mr like Mrs that is why they are together as a family.

You need a change and Obama is the right candidate

The Texas Debate

Clearly it's all but over for Hillary. She is unable to stop the incredible

momentum that her opponant Senator Obama has in play.

I feel that in regard to policy issues, these candidates are fairly even, however, Senator Obama seems to have the ability to unite and to inspire the American people. Quite frankly, Senator Clinton does not.

However I must admit that after watching her deliver her final comments during the last debate I was somewhat moved by her seemingly sincere closing words.

Then, the next day she appeared almost hostile, acusing her opponant of misstating information regarding her once favorable position toward NAFTA. Seems she is able to dish it out but is unable to take the blows that come with campaigning for elected office. I find it increasingly difficult to track with her message as she appears to be lost or misguided in her campaign efforts.

Following Texas and Ohio I am hopeful that she will bow out gracefully. The democratic party will need to unite and work together in harmony in an effort to regain the White house come November.

Nader on the Radar...good God not again!!

I can't believe that Ralph Nader is going to do it to us again!! I used to respect the guy but now I seem as a self-deluded spoiler and a unbending purist who would rather have the ship go down and say I told you so than to move us incrementally (but I believe significantly under Obama) in the right direction.

Ohio and Texas Trend toward Obama

Obama will win in Texas and Ohio-

YES we can…2008

I loved loved loved your PRICELESS Comment...I am going to copy and paste that to every forum I go...

I am asking for your permission before Hillary supporters accuse me of plagiarism.

Time for a Change

When Bill Clinton won, it was said it was time for a change. His season is over and we are in a new era. Now it is Obama Change. We must move on as a nation that has lost so much over the last eight years. Let's don't turn back the hand.

Hillary can't control Bill on her campaign trail. What is she going to do with him in the White House. Argue, because Bill will try to run it. Let's get real folks--our country and world need a fresh face, a new page, a new book and a new writer. When Obama puts his cabinet in place, you will see that America will be a better place to live for all Americans that want change. I want my grandchildren to have a future, not a past.

Vote for Barack Obama and let's win in November!

Vote for Barack Obama and let's get a Democrat win in November!

Obama is the best candidate to beat Mcain, according to polls at www.rasmussenreports.com and other polling sites. Obama leads Mcain by 15% in Minnesota, he leads Mcain by 7% in Colorado, he leads Mcain by 12% in Nevada, he leads Mcain by 10% in Pennsylvania, he leads Mcain by 13% in New Hampshire, and he leads Mcain by 9% in Oregon. Hillary is losing to Mcain in Minnesota by 5%, and in Oregon by 3% and by double digits to Mcain in Nevada and Colorado. She is tied with Mcain in Pennsylvania and she only has a 2% lead in New Hampshire. I like both Hillary and Barack, but let's unite as Democrats and nominate a candidate who can win in November.

Our goal as Democrats is to win the presidency in November, and the best candidate to win is Barack Obama! Let's not let the right wing war mongering political agenda steal another election from us like they did in 2000. With Hillary as our nominee, we risk losing to Mcain in November.

I encourage all voters in the Texas and Ohio primary's, and in all of the upcoming primary's to vote for Barack Obama and let's get a Democrat win in November!

joe

You talk about racism. How about a country electing a man simply because he is black -- totally disgusting. I wouldn't vote for the rock star Mesiah Obama if he were the last black candidate on earth -- not because I am racist (as cult Obama would love to attest) but because he stinks. He stinks of the politics he and his cult claim he is above. His record (especially his "present" votes and lying about passing the nuclear leak bill) stinks, saying he was against the war from the beginning when he wasn't even there to vote and later saying he doesn't know how he would have voted anyway STINKS...the man reeks. His judgment with Rezko stinks, his ties with Farakhan stink, his holier than though crap stinks...

He is being elected on the fact that America likes kool-aid and he's black. That stinks.

Hillary 08

Experience

Just remember what experience has brought us.....Cheny, Rumsfeld, Rove, Bush Sr, and Bush Jr.

Hilary cannot even be commander in chief in his family. How can she be one in the United States of America? Just ask Bill. She would have obtained more respect if she had kicked the adulterer out of the house and stood on her own two feet. Then she can safely say that she is the real commander in chief on day one!

Tackle the issue

Hilary appears to be more interested in attacking her opponent rather than offering more constructive advice on how to run the country. By insinuating that voters had been mislead, she is underestimating the intelligence of the American people. Abraham Lincoln once said, 'you can fool some people some of the time but never all the people all the time'. Americans are not as dumb as what she believes and they will speak through their votes.

Nader

J. M., Thanks for bringing this up. I sent Ralph an email through his website stating something similair to what you posted. I believe Obama is our best hope for true change, and I hope Ralph can be persuaded not to spoil our chance to get a democrat back in office.

I also used to respect Ralph, but not after causing Gore to lose the election eight years ago.

YES WE CAN!!

Obama will be an awesome president. When i first heard that Hillary was running I thought...cool. Clinton was the best president we've had in my generation (Im an 80's baby) and it will be like having Bill in office all over again! No more war, lower gas prices...yay!! But once I heard the ridiculousness that she represents and once I saw how she is too emotional, I thought why would anyone want a someone like that to be responsible for the the entire United States of America. Thats millions of people! Something bad might happen and Hillary will break down in tears. I dont know about you but that is scary. (I am in know way being prejudice against a woman being the President of the US- im all for it because i am a woman). I believe Obama has what it takes to turn this country around. Please Americans...Go out there and vote for OBAMA!!

OBAMA IS THE FUTURE

The fact is Hillary represent old politics and as we have seen in the last 12 years or so, old politics just does not work. We need change and it won't come from Hilary. It will come from Obama. The fact is, he's truly a uniter and is likable, people just don't like Hilary.

She is overly ambitious, slightly erratic, supremely arrogant and very power-hungry and that is NOT the type of person you want in the white house. Her campaign, in my opinion, is showing us the reasons why she should NOT be the next president. Being able to make a clear decision and not hold onto a losing point (much like that idiot Bush with Iraq) is a quality a president needs. She needs to stop holding onto the idea that she can win, its done and over with. Bow out and go home Hilary.

If she had any class she would admit defeat and just bow out, go home and make some cookies and call it a day

THE DEMOCRATS

I WILL ONLY SAY THIS, IF YOU CANNOT HOLD THE FIELD THEN YOU CANNOT WIN THE WHITE HOUSE. ALL POLLS DO SAY SHE WILL NOT FARE WELL AGAINST MCCAIN, HOWEVER OBAMA WILL, DEFEATING HIM. I AGREE THAT HER EXPERIENCE IS MORE NOT IN OFFICE AS ELECTED BUT AS SIDELINE WIFE. NO OFFENSE TO WOMEN, BUT HER POLITICAL EXPERIENCE IS NOT 11 OR 35 YEARS BUT 7. REMEMBER, BILL CLINTON HAD NO WASHINGTON EXPERIENCE NEITHER DID THE CURRENT BUSH, YET THEY WON. OBAMA WILL TAKE THIS TO THE BANK AND THE COUNTRY WILL BE BACK ON TRACK. HER HEALTHCARE PLAN IS SO OLD IT HAS WRINKLES FROM WHEN CLINTON FIRST GOT ELECTED IN 1994. ALL OF THE CHARGES AGAINST OBAMA ARE CHEAP SHOTS THAT HAS ALREADY COST HER SUPERDELEGATES. I AGREE THAT INSTEAD OF DIVIDING THE PARTY UNIFY IT NOW, MCCAIN AND THE REPUBLICANS KNOW WHAT TO PICK AT AND ON NOW. SHOW THEM UNITY AND THEY WILL HAVE TO WORRY, YET THAT WILL NOT WIN FOR THEM. LETS GET TOGETHER PEOPLE, LETS TAKE CHANGE AND CHARGE AHEAD OF THE REPUBLICANS.

reply D of TX

I DONT BLAME YOU ASKING PERMISSION, IS IT THAT THE CLINTONS ARE SO DESPERATE THESE DAYS. MAYBE THEY SHOULD TRY THE ONE ON MCCAIN ABOUT HIS MARRIAGE, FIRST THEY LIED TO EACH OTHER ABOUT AGE THEN GOT MARRIED. THERE IS A 20 YEAR GAP ALMOST SO WHAT ELSE DOES HE STANDS FOR????

WE ALL LIKE SEN. OBAMA, BUT WE HAVE THE USA TO GOVERN IN A VERY DIFFICULT TIME. PLEASE, SEN. OBAMA WILL BE READY IN 8 YEARS

SUBJECT: WE ALL LIKE SEN. OBAMA, BUT WE HAVE THE USA TO GOVERN IN A VERY DIFFICULT TIME

My fellow Americans, I have been listening to the voices of countless Americans, without specfic number as I have traveled this country, preaching the Gospel of Christ Jesus the King: I want to EMPHASIZE the urgency of the situation we find ourselves in:

We face an enemy that has repeatedly attacked us and remains committed to killing Americans and the destruction of our most cherished values. This election is about who is best prepared to lead and defend our nation and its international allies as Commander-in-Chief from day one. This election is about MAKING SURE we have the experienced leadership to guide us to victory in this war, protect the nation against future terrorist attacks, and support our troops and first responders who are on the frontlines of the war.

My fellow Americans, we ALL like Obama, BUT we have the United States of America to govern in a very difficult time of Islamic jihad, the economy, health care, housing crisis, Iraq, nuclear weapons and our image abroad; the OVERWHELMING challenges confronting us in the 21st century. The stakes in this election are so very high, and it will take a leader with Hillary Clinton's strength, will, resolve, determination and experience to tackle the challenges we face.

Not only is she the best qualified candidate, Hillary Rodham Clinton will win in November, take back the White House, and deliver real tangible and VALID results for America and globally by creating a strong, secure, prosperous and globally respected America, AGAIN.

My fellow Citizens, NO candidate (republican/ democrat) approaches the power and promise of Hillary Rodham Clinton. Clinton has used all of her time in the Senate to establish herself successfully as a genuine and sincere political and economic powerhouse. Moreover, Clinton offers Americans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to break the world's most prominent glass ceiling and elect a female President of the United States of America. I will say this again for my fellow Americans: NO candidate (republican/ democrat) approaches the power and promise of Hillary Rodham Clinton. Clinton has used all of her time in the Senate to establish herself successfully as a genuine and sincere political and economic powerhouse. Moreover, Clinton offers Americans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to break the world's most prominent glass ceiling and elect a female President of the United States of America.

I beleive with all of me that Senator Clinton is showing ALL AMERICAN WOMEN that they can aspire to lead our great nation and be taken seriously. If Hillary should succeed, America and the world would be changed forever and for the better.

Fellow Americans, there will be a clear choice November 2008, and I strongly believe that Hillary Clinton's life has prepared her to lead our country, the country we love so very much in the transcendent challenge of the 21st century. God bless Hillary Clinton, OUR NEXT President for a secure, strong, prosperous and globally respected America. God Bless America.

Reverend Felton McBride, Los Angeles California

Obama will win!

People are tired of the tactics Hillary Clinton employs. She whips up sentiments at the slightest opportunity. Nobody wants that. The other day, she was yelling, 'shame on you, Barack Obama' on allegations from Obama's camp that were not far from the truth. The facts are there for reference. When she alleged that Obama's health care plan excluded 15 million Americans, was that not an attack on a fellow democrat? So why would she be asking questions like, 'since when did democrats start attacking themselves on health care? She's really getting herself worked up at this point. Obama will win the nomination because he has displayed the qualities of a president. He is civil, mature and intelligent and most importantly, he seems to be the people's choice. My point is, let the people decide who their next president will be.

Obama

We need change in this administration , we want our children out of Iraq NOW!!!! When our first BLACK PRESIDENT gets into office I am hoping this and Healthcare will be his priorities .

Good luck Obama and God speed.

Human Nature

I agree completely with Daniel P. The reason Obama is winning is simply human nature. He and Hillary are often saying the same things, albeit with some significant differences. He comes across as an intelligent and approachable, someone you would be willing to listen to even if you disagreed with his views. At least half the country is not willing to even sit down with Hillary and listen to what she says because she comes across as stone-faced, hostile, and unapproachable. Perhaps she has had to be this way to get where she is. It doesn't matter. People know that Obama has little experience. They know that he is Black. None of that makes any difference here, and their dislike for Hillary overshadows all of those things.

Actions speak louder than action

I am not an american but I have been following the US election lately! Of course who would not when the world would be affected with the suites of policies that were to be placed when a new president is elected. We europeans can not understand why OBAMA seems to be very attractive when listening to him one would know that he is just the kind of grandiloquent politician whose substance is doubtful. I am scared for those people who vote on the ground of color, gender and some correct guesses on the forehand of a short political career and not based on the political will to drive a country, experience and good hands on knowledge of world politics. Furthermore, I can not understand why the media is playing too much role and making too much noise. They are making things confusing to the voters with the overload of punditry and polls and whatsoever.

Bush I and II Had Experience, Too..

It would be a great stride to have a female President is the USA. It would be a great stride to have an African-American President in the USA. But neither gender NOR color should be the determining factor on why you vote for a person. Great, if Clinton wins, she'll have struck a blow for the female cause, but so what? Her track record shows her extreme bias to lobbyists, big businesses, non-commitment to civil rights, and her horrible foreign policies (which are no different than our current Administration). Somehow through osmosis, Hillary Clinton has received all the accolades associated with her husband, and is attempting to ride into a nomination based on BILL Clinton's 2 terms in office.

Hillary has served as senator a bare 2 yrs longer than Obama, which equals nothing, and as a New Yorker I can say that she has done NOTHING for my state except ride the "Clinton wave" of popularity. Before she was a senator, she was a 1st lady to a President, which amounts to little. If a man married Sandra Day O'Connor, would that somehow make him fit to be a justice of the Supreme Court? The entire postulation is LUDICROUS!

Before BILL Clinton was President, SHE was a lawyer. Oh, waitasec! Obama was a lawyer, too! And after being a Civil Rights Lawyer and causing SERIOUS change in Illinois, he became that states' senator! And wait! Obama has had MORE experience on the city/state level than Clinton, and their senate careers are not very different in age. Hillary's ONLY real "extra" experience is living with a philandering former president and using the bonus of his last name to propel herself through the political machine.

Let's get serious. Barack Obama has the potential to actually DO something with an election and turn the direction the country is going. Hillary Clinton almost guarantees that the "same old song" will be sung in Washington. Nothing will change locally, little will change overseas (except maybe alot more dead US soldiers, Iraqis and Palestinians), and little will change about how America is viewed by the rest of the world. Voting for her based on her gender, or her marriage to an unfaithful ex President is no reason to vote for Hillary. Try thinking about the WORLD picture, the world which the United States currently has excluded itself from. Let's vote to bring PEOPLE together.

Billary

I'm a Libertarian. I won't vote for Billary (sic), Obama, or McCain. But if Billary, gets nominated, does anyone think that the Republicans will NOT bring up Whitewater and all of the past scandals of the Clinton years ? ! How many scandals were there ? Most people have lost count I bet. a few weeks ago, Billary's campaign ran out of money and she had to "loan" her campaign $ 5 million. Where did it come from ? Billary won't say. And how is she going to be paid back ? Who is going to pay back that $ 5 million ?

And why does she still adamantly refuse to release her tax returns ?

Do you think the Republicans are going to NOT ask these questions constantly during the campaign ? And why shouldn't they ? She won't answer these questions and I would like to have honest answers to them.

BTW, I hear that the Republicans are already researching impeachment in case she pulls a miracle here and actually gets nominated.

I can see it now... Her stern face staring into the camera, wagging her finger, and saying: i NEVER had sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky !"

anybody wanna go thru that again ? :)

Personally, I'm getting a lot of humor and enjoyment watching her self-destruct. She only has herself to blame.

GO Obama !

Getting personal

Go on the offensive against your opponent even though he is from the same party. Fire your campaigners if you fail to win. Put your own money to fund the campaign even though it run into millions. Bombard your opponent with irrelevant issues like plagiarism, words, inexperience and distortion of facts, etc, etc. Stick on to your own husband even though he cheats because power means everything. All these are the perfect ingredient for failure. Time out - Miss Hilary Rodman.

I'm the Greatest

Reminds me of someone who always claims to be the best, the smartest girl in class, the one with all the solutions, the one who has the experience, the one who is always ready, the one who shall be commander in chief on day one. Where is the modesty, honesty and humility that comes with being a leader? No wonder Bill found solace in Monica L. who is less boastful!

With all the accusations and mud slinging wouldn't it be nice to hear Hilary say something like, "Yes, I made a mistake in voting for the war in Iraq, yes I was wrong about NAFTA, let's move forward and look to the future.." I was laughing when I heard that she is a real fighter who does not give up easily. If only she can show the same fighting spirit when she was cheated on repeatedly by her philandering husband, she will emerge to be at least on par with Ivana Trump whom women admire!

Actions speak louder ?

I am a Frenchman and I've been following the US democratic primary process closely since Iowa. I don't agree at all with the anomymous

european who said 'We europeans can not understand why OBAMA seems to be very attractive when listening to him one would know that he is just the kind of grandiloquent politician whose substance is doubtful....'

Obama is a great speechmaker. He has to be, otherwise he would not be here. The fact that he could overcome Hillary Clinton is prodigious.

But he's not a demagogue like some we have in europe. He's not playing on negative feelings, fear, chauvinism, division. If one democratic candidate does that, it is his opponent, rather. Of course his speeches are often simplistic, he uses (excellent) slogans: that's the law of the genre. He's uncommonly good at it: good for him! But he did deliver some subtler speeches (for instance about the place of religion in politics) and his website provides more substantial stuff. Besides his political career shows that wants to get things done and he works in a spirit of dialogue without excluding those who don't agree with him. Obama has a programme and

he seems very strongly motivated to see it carried out.

Besides, the 'experience' argument is lousy. Where is Hillary Clinton's experience? What did she achieve? Is being the spouse of a president

the right kind of experience? And if so why not adopt hereditary monarchy? That's by far the safest way to ensure that the leaders

know the system from the inside.

The fact of the matter is Obama is a highly intelligent and expericenced

guy. Were he not, we would not be talking about him now.

I'm sure that many europeans hope that Obama will be the next president of the US.

Where did the wheels come off ?

Sometime soon after the Democratic Convention, after Billary loses the nomination, some reporter will ask Harold Ickes ( isn't that a PERFECT name for a Democrat ? ! :) ): Where did the wheels come off ?

his only possible answer: ON DAY ONE !

Day ONE

Billary says that she will be ready on "Day ONE". Really ??? Does she realize that HER "Day ONE" is the day after Senator Obama is nominated for President, and not January 20th ?

Is she REALLY ready for "Day ONE" ?

Keep the kitchen knife

The debate in Cleveland would be another soap opera exposing the weaknesses of the two nominees. Americans are more interested in solutions that can bring the country forward and bring about peace to the nation and the world. My advice to them is to focus and work on their strengths to achieve this rather than shoot each other down benefitting Mc Cain in the process. Negative campaigning never works and firing salvos achieve nothing but failures. Having the last word and winning the arguement is like winning a battle but losing the war.

Time for a real change!

WHAT AMERICA BADLY NEEDS NOW IS TO CHALLENGE AND DO AWAY WITH THE DUOPOLY BY CREATING A VIABLE THIRD PARTY. AS A DISENCHANTED DEMOCRAT (PARTY NO LONGER REPRESENTS MY VIEWS AS IT HAS BECOME OVERLY LEFTIST), I AM SUPPORTING RON PAUL! I REALIZE HE HASN'T A CHANCE OFF WINNING THE NOMINATION, BUT AM DOING SO AS A PROTEST VOTE SIMILAR TO SUPPORTING ANDERSON IN THE 80'S. IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER WAKE-UP CALL!!

Response to Joe

I was really surprised by the extreme hatefullness of Joe's comments...On the first point, as an Obama supporter, it never crossed my mind to support him because he's black. I support him because I was impressed with his insights on U.S. foreign policy and the current lowpoint of U.S. standing in the world. Yes he is charming and charismatic and popular...Most people are naturally attracted to happiness and unlike Hillary, he seems like a stable, grounded and happy person. He's not perfect, and of course, it's the nature of competition and politics to represent yourself as such, but I still think the head and heart are much sounder than his competition. And yes, he does use some cheezy slogans and whatnot that can be a little annoying sometimes, but if you dig a little deeper and watch some of his personal interviews, you see that he has fresh insights and truly intelligient ideas on some of the nation's and world's problems.

He does not stink, we are not electing him because he's black, and I don't like kool-aid.

Bill's choice

Someone ask Bill the other day on who he will be campaigning for if Monica Lewinsky were to stand for election. "Of course I will campaign for Hilary, but I will camp out with Monica!".

OBAMA THE ROCKSTAR

Man whenever this Guy speaks .... it shivers all my veins and touches my heart .. his voice .. his calm n humble character.. his one quote peace n hope message ... which dint changed throughout the 2004 democratic speech until now... his honesty and charismatic approach towards common issues... he is no doubt young and we need young leaders like him who are born in hundreds of generations and we are lucky to have such awesome leader who actually talks about unity...whenever he speaks "WE" Gosh it seems like some thing epic is going to happen ... honestly you guys look for your self. when hillary said on national tv that she voted in favor of a bill and she said i did voted in favor but i wish it wouldn't passed... then she was so furious that she got out of her mind and couldn't controlled her temper and said "shame on you barack obama" look at this now ... how low and cheap she could go.. its such a shame that a woman running for president and just could not control her self and temper then how would she control a country.. when she couldn't control her own campaign then how could she persist to favor this country.. she loves hispanics now ???? when she favored agains the bill for driving license for them and when obama voted in favor of it. she is nothing but by all means a low self esteem politician who could throw mud and who is not able to stand on one message even. 08' OBAMA YOU ROCK THE WORLD... GO GO GO WIN BIG OBAMA.. M FOR YOU MY HEART BELONGS TO YOU

Four more years of Bush-Clinton?

C'mon, half the voters in 2008 were barely kids in 1980 when the Bush-Clinton dynasty began. 1981-1989 daddy bush (with ronny), 1989-1993 (daddy bush with potatoe quayle), 1993-2001 slick willy clinton, 2001-2009 baby dubya bush. It's time for fresh air! Hillary should take Madeline Albright and go on a long long cruise. Liberal feminists! the topic! neither liberal nor feminist! Discuss! Why did albright state on CBS 60 minutes that killing 400,000 children (with sanctions) in baghdad was worth getting one (silly) dictator? Why did HIllary and Al Gore support the kidnapping and torture program called Extraordinary Rendition? Please see the Reese Witherspoon film from 2007 called Rendition! It was suppressed! Coffee tawk! 555-4444, discuss!

'Hilary isn't well suited

I am not satisfied with Hilary's claim of 35 yrs experience and readiness to be president on day one. The latest report on her political and campaign management failings are in my view an indication of her poor judgement. How is she gonna be able to manage the economy if she isn't even able to manage her campaign finances?'

Thank you for paying attention

election

I hope Obama shuts Hillary Clinton out this coming Tuesday! He already has my vote, and I feel he is the better candidate of the two.

Hillary is too divisive and she has tried to paint herself as so experienced, but the facts prove otherwise. She is truly tied into the political machine and she does not have the leadership which America especially needs now more than ever.

God bless this country which I love!
