Re Alaska border with Russia

Re: "Foreign policy experience? Well, Alaska is the only state with a border with Russia. And it is the only state with territory, in the Aleutian Islands, occupied by the enemy in World War II."

Surely, Mr Barone wrote that tongue in cheek... Foreign policy experience because of a border with Russia thus qualifying the candidate to assume commander in chief role if anything should happen to Sen McCain (assuming they win of course)?

Must admit, this is one of the more gobsmacking arguments I've ever read in defence of Mrs Palin's inexperience.

Go McCain/Palin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This ticket is now the most all-American ticket ever. I will have fun supporting them now, and will volunteer to put up yard signs, pass stuff out - WHATEVER I can do.

Truly a mornoic lightweight

Did McCain do ANY vetting?

Odd how an older cancer survivor like him would give so little thought to the readiness of his V.P.

Foreign policy experience?

What does Alaska being by Russia and the Aleutians being occupied during WW2 have anything to do with foreign policy experience. The Mcain camp have really lowered the bar on a vp. Maybe he can get the three stooges for cabinent posts.

Experience

Those who say Palin is too inexperienced for the number two slot..... So you're for putting someone with less experience in the NUMBER 1 slot??? Makes no sense to me.

(senators vote on legislation, they don't govern .. GOVERNORS actually .... Govern.... Run a State)

Foreign Policy Experience?

Saying she has FPE because Alaska shares a border with Russia is as sensible as saying she's a Communist (or even Monarchist) because Russia once owned Alaska. I have more foreign policy experience than she does, having been raised by multi-lingual European parents and spent time in seven European countries!

Could you honestly type your defense of Palin's "experience," Mr. Barone, without laughing or grimacing? Did this GOP spin point stick in your craw, or did you enjoy putting it out there for public ridicule?

Alaska/Russia

Alaska is across a frozen sea from the most distant reaches of siberia, where nobody lives -- a part of siberia, much much *more remote* than the part that contained gulags. It is completely insane to point to this as a foreign policy advantage for an alaska governor. There is more international relations involved in governing michigan, whose border with canada is at least *traversed* sometimes.

My great fear is that this "alaska is near russia" argument is actually a talking point being pushed out by the mccain campaign to try to sway the most ill-informed americans. Repeat something enough times, and it starts to sound convincing.

Russia

Mr. Barone, since when does Russia "share a border" with Alaska? Is that the same way that, say, Maine shares a border with Ireland? I was under teh impression that countries that were not actually contiguous were not considered to "share a border." I know you're stretching to join teh GOP talking point on this notion, but you ought to rethink it.

The most difficult task for Evangelicals will be accepting BHO's ability to speak fluent Evangelical as evidence that he really is one because he, most definitely, is not an Evangelical.

No Evangelical would have (nor COULD have) answered Pastor Warren's abortion-holocaust question the way he did.

No Evangelical would have difficulty explaining his voting record on abortion the way he does.

No Evangelical would be so indefinite about protecting marriage.

No Evangelical would have switched his position on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE relevant in this campaign, because they have solid convictions.

Most Evangelicals don't even suspect there is such a thing as black-liberation theology, let alone agree with it, as BHO so obviously has done for TWENTY YEARS. Let me add here that he learned something else in those years; his speeches are inspirational only because he has successfully adapted a preachers style, cadence and delivery.

He is a wolf in the Lambs clothing.

On the other hand, Sarah Palin will be an easy, familiar choice for Evangelicals because she is one. She seems to be a God-send to the country's future.

John McCain and Sarah Palin are the only MORALLY DEFENSIBLE candidates for President and Vice President of the United States of America.

Update

Gee, I know this article is already 2 days old, but isn't it time to update it? Palin was against "the bridge to nowhere" immediately after she was adamantly for it. Ooops.

I live in San Diego which really borders Mexico. Now I know that I too am a foreign policy expert.

Senator Obama is a United States Senator - that the Bigs. Gov. Palin won her election with approximately 125,000 votes. That's not even a descent sized city. And that is the minor league.
