The Ghosts of Political Leanings

Re: Do church people have a clue outside the pew?
Yes they do. That is why most church people I know would not vote for Obama if H377 froze over, thawed and froze again. Most folks aren't supporting John McCain because he's their first choice, but because he's the only viable choice to keep BHO out of the oval office. Yes, McCain has faults. Nobody said he's a saint. He's as human as the rest of us, but the thought of the USA falling into the hands of the likes of obama is completely unacceptable.
Some interesting facts about McCain
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America has given John McCain a grade of D for his support of veterans:
www.iava.org/full-ratings-list
Disabled Veterans of America gave him a 20% rating on support for veterans while giving Obama an 80% rating:

Per Vietnam Veterans of America John McCain has “voted against us” in 15 key votes:

Had he not been the son and grandson of admirals, there is scant chance he would have been admitted to the U.S. Naval Academy. Given his behavior patterns and academics, had he not been the son and grandson of admirals, there is little doubt he would have been thrown out. Instead, in 1958 he managed to graduate 894 out of 899.
McCain’s 5½-year stay at the Hanoi Hilton (officially Hoa Loa Prison) has ever since been the subject of great controversy. He maintains that he was tortured and otherwise badly mistreated. One of many who disagree is Dennis Johnson, imprisoned at Hanoi and never given treatment for his broken leg. He reports that every time he saw McCain, who was generally kept segregated, the man was clean-shaven, dressed in fresh clothes, and appeared comfortable among North Vietnamese Army officers. He adds that he frequently heard McCain’s collaborative statements broadcast over the prison’s loud speakers.
On October 26, 1967, McCain’s A-4 Skyhawk was shot down over Hanoi. The fractures of 1 leg and both arms were reportedly due to his failure to tuck them in during ejection. According to U.S. News & World Report (May 14, 1973), McCain didn’t wait long before offering military information in return for medical care. While an extraordinary patient at Gi Lam Hospital, he was visited by a number of dignitaries, including, to quote McCain himself, General Vo Nguyen Giap, the national hero of Dienbienphu.
Jack McLamb is a highly respected name in law enforcement circles. After 9 years of clandestine operations in Cambodia and unmentionable areas, he returned home to Phoenix where he became one of the most decorated police officers on record. Twice McLamb was named Officer of the Year. He went on to become an FBI hostage negotiator. This man has stated that every one of the many former POWs he has talked with consider McCain a traitor. States McLamb, “He was never tortured…The Vietnamese Communists called him the Songbird, that’s his code name, Songbird McCain, because he just came into the camp singing and telling them everything they wanted to know.” McLamb further quotes former POWs as saying McCain starred in 32 propaganda videos in which he denounced his country and comrades.
Senators who have had McCain scream hyphenated obscenities at them nose-to-nose include Rick Santorum, Richard Shelby, Thad Cochran, and James Inhofe. Most colleagues decline comment. The man has been called psychologically unstable.
The Gun Owners of America rates McCain F minus. Although the National Rifle Association is far softer in defending gun rights, its president has termed McCain the “worst Second Amendment candidate.”

self-righteousness
Brian of MI:
As a Southerner who was raised around so-called 'religious' people, I recognize your rationale from a mile away. You are self-righteous and judgmental of others. What happened to "Judge not lest ye be judged?"
There are none so close-minded as those who look down their noses at others from their mountaintop. Of course, you would never be so introspective as to realize the truth in Daniel David's post; that you have sterotyped Obama as Muslim based solely on his skin color. If someone asserted that McCain was a Muslim (or made some other extreme, unsubstantiated assertion) you would simply disregard it as false-- or you might even laugh. Yet you are very comfortable judging Obama's Christianity or lack thereof as if you were Jesus Christ himself. Why is that??
Well, allow me to do the same. I question your Christianity and see you as just another 'religious' person who attends church every Sunday but doesn't have a clue. You never search inside yourself so you never have to acknowledge what you really are.
Black vote
I am so tired of people who say Blacks are racists because 99% of them voted for Obama. This is so disingenuous. Everyone knows that Democrats have always received about 90% of the Black vote. This time the Dem happens to be an intelligent, talented, extraordinary Black man and Blacks are naturally proud of him. Were Blacks racists over the past 50 yrs., when they cast their vote for whichever White male Democrat was on the ticket?
As for McCain's infidelity, I wish Repubs would just be honest and not so hypocritical. These flimsy distinctions between McCain's and Edward's infidelity are so transparent. They both had handicapped or sick wives who they cheated on -- period. Further, my understanding is that McCain was a serial cheater before he finally fell for Cindy and divorced his crippled wife for her. I don't particularly care about their personal lives (too many Congressmen have cheated)-- It's just the blatant hypocrisy that offends me. If you have a problem with infidelity, McCain is no less culpable than Edwards-- period.
black racism?
Obama is carrying close to 100% of the black vote, which makes it black racism? Amazingly, in previous elections for president, probably 99.9995% of African American voters voted for a caucasian. Wonder how that happened...
As for Rev. Wright, what he said might have been stupid and repulsive, but if white americans had been subjected to what blacks had been subjected to for years in America, dare I say we would be rather paranoid about the lax governmental response to the AIDS crisis (which was lax because of the early demographic populations which were primarily affected - gays, IV drug users, Haitians, the poor, and later, more generally people of color). Coupled with the shameful episode at Tuskegee, is it any wonder that the older generation of black Americans is/was at times angry/suspicious?
If they are supposed to move on, then lets all set aside the Confederate flag, recognize it for what it is (an incredibly divisive symbol that needs to be retired, whether or not our ancestors fought in the Civil War on the side of the Confederacy) and quick pretending that the Civil War (and let's all call it by the proper name, the Civil War, not the War between the States) wasn't primarily about slavery. There may have been other issues involved, but race can never be separated from the Civil War.
Finally, I am always mystified by how folks on the right always seems to feel that Obama is only ever thinking of himself - He may be incredibly ambitious (who isn't, if they are running for President), but where is the evidence that he doesn't have the best interest of the country at heart? I am not a McCain fan, but I don't doubt that he sincerely believes that he can lead the country in the right direction, just as I don't doubt that Obama, Mike Huckabee, Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney or the other presidential candidates believed that. If you don't like a candidate's policies, fine, but let's quit impugning the candidate's sincerity. I say this with a grain of salt, since there will always be some pandering by ANY candidate. I believe that Americans won't really vote for someone that tells us the truth - which is that we can't have it all - low taxes, huge defense budgets, increased social spending, cheap energy that doesn't contribute to greenhouse gases, etc. etc. etc.
Blowback to smart aleck
Well, Brian, your weekly churchgoing ain't a merit badge and, in your case, hasn't kept you from being as spiritually blind as a bat. When you insist Obama is a Muslim, you are only seeing black skin and too many of those e-mails of lies that your brethren spam around to each other.
As for the 15 beers a day in drunkenness, your McCain buddies are selling the beer, facilitating people right and left to ruin their own lives and the lives of others. It's why you knuckleheads "admire" the McCains for being rich (from enticing others to sin.) Leadership, my foot.
Some People Never Learn
Regardless of the reason why people don't like Obama. Your country should come first. Everyone making less than 250,000 a year, this election should be a no brainer. Hopefully many have learned their lesson. If not then when your job gets shipped overseas or your factory closes you will be looking for a liberal handout. Republicans, I beleive are brainwashed. Even though they don't make enough money for John McCain to look their way. They will vote for him because he is familiar. Well look at our country and see ehat else is familiar. Lost Jobs, high gas prices, poor education,a shrinking middle class comprised of all races. I guess the American people like what has happened under 27 years of republican rule. I mean, The Germans followed Hitler until it was too late. I can't wait until they find out that drilling won't help but who will they blame then the Democrats for not telling them enough!
racism, morality, and a mirror to hopefully see yourself in
To anyone who says that not voting for Obama is a sign of the racism that is rampant in the Republican Party, I ask what party Martin Luther King was associated with.
If you are curious why few people are jumping up and down about John McCain’s marital indiscretions. Perhaps you should ask do prefer a man who admits that he made a selfish mistake or one who waits until after he has been caught to admit it? I believe there is something to be said about culpability.
I believe that voting for a candidate, not because of his policies, not because of his voting record, nor his vision for the future, but rather because he is a minority. That is indeed as racist, if not more so than voting against him because he is a minority.
Therefore I implore any person who really wants to understand the differences between these two to get a transcript of their debates (once those occur), and some speeches. I believe that if Americans were to vote with their eyes closed, and solely on the issues McCain would win in a landslide.
Obama is a socialist
Obama is a socialist pure and simple. America is starting to figure that out. He is only out to help the poor, who already receive to many handouts the way it is. I work hard for my money and accept responsibility for my actions. If obama is elected im gonna quit my job and get in line for my handout, cause it wont pay to be a asset to society instead of a burden to it.
Thanks for your great insight into "church people"
As a weekly churchgoer, I assure you that most everyone I go to church with knows that John McCain is divorced and remarried, and (boldly speaking for my fellow congregants) we also know that there is no comparison between how McCain's marriage unraveled and the mess the pompous pretty boy Edwards is in right now.
As for the beer that "most of (us) do not believe in drinking", perhaps you should brush up on your theology. Jesus first miracle was turning water into wine.... Most religious conservatives (or as you and your circle might refer to us, "right wing bigoted Jesus freak nutjobs") simply believe in the Bible's instruction to avoid drunkenness as a lifestyle of excess. In other words, having a beer or two on occasion, or the occasional glass of wine, is not a sin. Drinking 15 beers a day and allowing it to control your life is. Big difference.
That said, I'm not a huge McCain lover. I will vote for him, simply because even though he is too centrist for my taste, he is the more conservative candidate of the two. Speaking only for myself, the choice between McCain and a radical Muslim masquerading as a "Christian" (Jeremiah Wright being Obama's "Christian" mentor) is a no brainer. I don't buy his "faith" for a second. I'd sooner believe George Wallace wsa pro-integration than believe Obama is a Christian. And again, I'm only speaking for myself right now.
