Pennsylvania Results Mean Clinton Could Win the Popular Vote and Obama the Pledged Delegate Count

Look up definition of "Opinion"
Victor Palli - this column isn't a report, it is Barone's Opinion. It is clearly labelled as such at the top of the page.
I suspect Barone's columns turn you off because you don' agree with his analysis and he says what you don't like to hear.
Awesome stupidity on display once again
I've been a subscriber of US News since 1994. The one aberration in an otherwise excellent magazine and source of unbiased news reporting is Micheal Barone and his ridiculous columns. The press and all reporters are supposed to maintain at least a semblance of neutrality in reporting and at least seem reasonably intelligent. Barone doesn't even bother - the one column that consistently turns me off every time.
Where does he even get this nonsense ? From Hillary herself ? Such nonsensical drivel.
Hope US News can use this to get rid of this guy once and for all...
Obama the Uniter
I agree the man is doing a lot of "uniting" however, I don't that the pattern of unification that has evolved is what he had in mind.
The campaign may have racial overtones, blacks voting for him, whites against , but I suspect he is beginning to fail for the same reasons McGovern, Dukakis, and Kerry failed. His politics are just too liberal for the majority of Americans. I beliee he has made it this far because of the far-left activists that work in the caucases and primaries. Llike McGovern his base is academia and students. Not a winning formula, but hey there's always a chance. I say we should give it to him. The American public has met Hillary and don't seem to care much for her.
Don't let Hillary FOOL You!
Don't let Hillary and her campaign team Fool you! this is the propaganda that she wants us to believe, how do we ever Trust a candidate who has based her campaign on LIES & NASTY SMEARS?
In fact the Clinton Campaign Team don't know when they are telling the Truth, Monday evening in PA they were Briefing Private Polling was showing Hillary held a 17 PER CENT LEAD! - Tuesday evening at the Victory Rally they were celebrating a 10 PER CENT MARGIN WIN - THE "MAGIC" DOUBT DIGIT FIGURE and then next day we are told she had a 9.3 Marin Win, when you think she entered Pennsylvania with a 27 POINT LEAD where did all the supporters and voters disappear to????
Now they are telling us they have raised $10 Million for Hillary since Tuesday, then pay off all the DEBTS you have built up in every State she has visited.
It is up to Indiana and North Carolina to show Hillary, we don't want LIES & NASTY PERSONAL SMEARS, she has no Clue about Real Life! those of us losing our homes, having True Debt and worried about it (Unlike Her) Health Care Costs and the struggle for Jobs!
Only Barack Obama can UNITE we are the USA in 2008 and color should not make one difference, Barack can beat McCain who will deliver the same disaster as Bush, Hillary can't beat him, hat is why GOP want Hillary to win, Republican supporters in PA registered for The Democrats! to help bring this about.
What the???
"And, as I noted in the same column, Clinton carries Jacksonians—the descendants of those Scots-Irish, Scots Lowlanders, and northern Englishmen who settled the Appalachian chain starting in Pennsylvania in the 18th century and heading southwest, ultimately to Texas, in the 19th. "
What on earth is in your pipe? You need to get out of the office more.
Its the people votes
It makes sense to count the popular vote because that is the voice of Americans. The rule was just to not seat the Delegates which they all agreed on. BUT since neither candidate can reach the number of delegates to clinch the nomination it makes sense to either count the FL and MI, revote or count popular votes. I mean didnt Gore have the popular vote and Bush won the electoral points? All because of some stupid system. Come on its just common sense... when the system doesnt work then just count fairly on peoples votes. I mean not counting the votes in FL and MI is just absurd. No one is saying to seat the delegates, they are just counting AMERICANS VOTES and using that as a reasonable argument. No one told Obama to ignore MI and take his name off the ballot, I mean what was he trying to prove? That he doesnt need his name represented by MI? I will support any democrat who gets the nomination but right now Hillary makes sense since Obama does not have enough delegates either. The system isnt working the way it should be so then there are the superdelegates who should be free to vote whoever they want. They were given this role because obviously they know more about politics than the average person. So why not trust a Democratic superdelegate if you are a true democrat? Whatever all of this is nonsense and people should just sit back and think with their own thoughts and not be strayed by popularity or the opposite. Whatever the case may be... SO LONG BUSH!
One thing these postings confirm is how fanatical people are about the primary. The article accurately described how the "principles" that people back, on both sides, are adopted merely because they are convenient. I agree that there are legitimate arguments on both sides. Pretending that your preferred overarching principle has some clear objective superiority is specious, and self-deceptive. That said, while I think that both sides have equally legitimate big-picture arguments that their candidate should be nominated, that does not mean that every individual argument advanced by one side or the other is logical. With that in mind, and acknowledging that my sympathies are with Clinton, I want to point out that the argument that the "will of the people" should be effectuated, an argument that Obama supporters seem so fond of, seems to support Clinton slightly more than Obama. Presumably the "people" referred to are the voters in the democratic party. While there is a basis for arguing that delegates should be determinative, the clearest and most direct expression of popular will is, not surprisingly, the popular vote. Thus, arguing that the "will of the people" would be effectuated by selecting a candidate whom the voters did not choose is illogical. In fact, it sounds a little Orwellian.
Shady math...
I understand that Americans have a hard time with math (we rank 9th of the Industrialized nations), and I recognize that 20% of our adults are illiterate, but I hoped that our good old "common sense" was better than this. In defense of the disenfranchised voters of Florida and Michigan, Hillary offers an argument that disenfranchises the voters of Michigan who voted "uncommitted" (40%) as well as disenfranchises caucus states. But playing along with that voodoo math - if instead of giving Obama ZERO votes from Michigan, if we give him the 40% uncommitted vote - he is again in the lead in the popular vote.
Don't buy the BS that Hillary's team would be happy to have a re-vote in either Michigan or Florida. They know good and well that Obama would do much better in both now than he did previously (he didn't campaign at all in either and we know from experience that when he has an opportunity to do so, he has improved his numbers by at least 10 points). Several polls over the last two months have shown him actually ahead of Clinton in Michigan. Also, it is getting really tiresome to hear the Clinton team blaming Obama's team for there not being a re-vote when both states voted not to go forward with re-votes (sorry folks, but Obama wasn't in their legislatures to do that voting). They determined that they did not have sufficient time or political will to host re-votes.
Why do so many of us nod along as they offer bold-faced lies in order to manipulate us? How many times are we going to mutely go along with the power brokers of this nation? Not only do we vote against our economic interest, we vote against our liberties in the guise of national security. It is time to take back our government from Corporate America. Every time I see Hillary praising McCain and denigrating Obama, teaming up with the right wing (Scaif, Limbaugh, Rove), when I see the right mobilizing against Obama, but not Hillary, when the mass media go viral with Rove style sound-bites... I see more and more clearly that we must vote for the insurgent Barack Obama. They thought they could easily count him out because of his race and his lack of Washington Insider status. Not only did they underestimate Obama, they vastly underestimated the millions of Americans that support him. We are no longer willing to lie down while they destroy our standing in the world, dwindle our military resources, oppress the American dream, and impoverish a quarter of our public.
The Dems are worrying about nothing
It will not matter who the Dems pick because they are both weak choices. McCain will beat either one. The GOP will paint either one as anti war, cut and run liberal and the people will probably buy that since they always do. Historically, the Dems ALWAYS lose when the run a liberal. Bill Clinton won running as a pro business Dem who was going to cut big government. Given the choice between a liberal and a moderate (which is how most view McCain), the people never choose the liberal.
Being a woman or black makes it harder from the start but both of these candidates are greatly flawed beyond those superficial challenges. We have a choice between the most hated women in politics who has negatives in the mid 50's. With negatives that high she has virtually no chance of winning. An inexperienced black guy with an anti American preacher good luck selling that to America. And our other choice is an old man with a short fuse who wants to keep us in a no win situation in Iraq and with a struggling US economy openly admits he knows very little about economics. Am I being too negative about what will happen this November? If so, I would love to hear a reason why I should be more hopeful. Do you have one?
Racism?
How can all these people claim racism as a reason why Obama is losing the white vote! HELLO! The man is winning 90% of the black vote. That to me is Racism. He is getting this far because of his color
