voting on cultural values

I have been baffled by the way immigration or gay marriage have been used to bring out republican voters in force in previous years, to keep Bush's corporate cronies and the like in power (nevermind that their fearless leaders are outsourcing their jobs to other countries). This year, the war (in whatever country, against whoever those people are over there - McCain can't seem to learn which side of the split in the Muslim world Al Qaeda is on, and Bush can't seem to learn which countries Bin Laden is not hiding in, but it doesn't matter for the war voters - Bomb Iran, Al Qaeda's #1 enemy, what's the difference?). Maybe Obama is right, and it is because of a belief by most voters that their vote does not make a difference (when there is no real difference between the candidates) that makes cultural differences the only differences on which the voters feel they have a choice. Spouting cultural values is free, and easy to do, and it works (it works for Achmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, and Putin too). It's sad that politicians in our country do it, because there are alot of issues and problems that matter, and that require real work to be done.

TO: Stela of IN 15:37

Government is not there to solve your problems. Government is there to secure your right to solve them yourself. As long as you sit back and whine instead of thinking of ways to get ahead, you will always be a failure.

Caught in the Act

This kerfluffle is a classic instance where a candidate does what they all do - tailor their message to a single audience - feeling safe in the environs of one of America's wealthiest households. But one of the attendees had the temerity to make a tape of his remarks, and then the gall to release them to the public.

Wake up Obama, this is the new world, the you-tube world, where you can no longer assume that you have any privacy at all. Now the group you despise, but need for election, has heard your own voice admit that you have no respect for them.

Obama has not done well with blue-collars against Hillary before. He will look back at those poor showings wistfully when he sees how badly he does in Pennsylvania.

He may have managed to lose Pennsylvania with this one. He may have done the impossible - let the nomination get away.

He has assured himself that he can never win the general election. And it will be HIS racism, not ours, that brings him down.

Barone and Obama

I cannot understand how Mr. Barone has gotten so upset about a comment which is more a metaphor about the response of a dissatisfied citinzery and its government. To ascribe the term elitist to this comment indicates to me that he does not fully appreciate the nuances of the English Language. Does he really believe Mr. Obama intended to insult those good people - voters- in Pennsylvania?

How non objective can one get.

Conservative Trash

You and your ilk are the very epitome of conservative trash that does not look out for us. Obama will never even come near the the level of disdain and condescension with which you view the less fortunate. Barone and his type should be exterminated.

How obvious

WOW...I have never seen so many people that have grown up or live in small towns than I have online lately. When Obama insults city folk next, something tells me that everyone will suddenly have come from a metrpolis!
