The headline on the lead story on page A1 of the February 28 Washington Post: "Toll in Iraq's Deadly Surge: 1,300." (The numbers are dubious, as the left-leaning Greg Mitchell points out in Editor and Publisher, via www.captainsquartersblog.com.) But if you want the full story with context, you need to turn to page A11: "Diplomacy Helped to Calm the Chaos."

If it bleeds, it leads. And if it tells a story of success, it's deep inside.
