July 16, 2008 10:53 AM ET | Kimberly Palmer | Permanent Link

I interviewed Jose Garcia, coauthor of Up to Our Eyeballs: The Hidden Truth and Consequences of Debt in Today's America for the latest edition of the Alpha Consumer Podcast. He explains why he thinks consumer debt is climbing and what should be done about it. You can also hear the Alpha Consumer Tip of the Week on lowering your summer air-conditioning bill. This guy is an idiot. I work and live in the same economic world as the rest of you out there. However, I am not stupid when it comes to my families finances. Let’s continue to blame everyone else for the economic and finance mess we as individuals get into. We pay our bills first and save some when we can, what we have left is what we have left for extras. People that get into financial difficulty have no one to blame except themselves. There are a couple of situation that are beyond our control, such as job lose, death of a family member whose income you count on. If you buy, buy, buy and spend, spend, spend and take loans for homes that you know you can't afford. Let’s put the blame in the right place.

Regardless of WHY Americans are buried in debt, or who's most at fault, a society where too many individuals owe too much to corporations is a society at risk of making dumb decisions.

As for the podcast, as soon as I saw an opening AD from Conoco, I turned it off. I'm already over-saturated with marketing. No, thanks. Also not interested in 11 minutes of talk. Put it in writing where we can skim to what's important.

Just fyi, you can download from iTunes to skip the ad.
