Debt Collectors Hounded Reader, Too

June 20, 2008 02:49 PM ET | Kimberly Palmer | Permanent Link | Print

After posting my item about dealing with debt collectors yesterday, I heard from another reader, Melissa from Alexandria, Va., with the same problem. A debt collector called and said she owed money to a health clinic. But the collector had the wrong person, albeit with the same, relatively common name. When Melissa explained that she wasn't the person who owed the money, she says the collector didn't believe her at first and was rude to boot.

Eventually, after multiple phone calls to the clinic, collectors, and her insurance company, she got the situation straightened out. Says Melissa: "The rudeness I encountered trying to simply get an explanation and an apology points out that there's something wrong with this industry."

Has anyone else encountered this kind of trouble?

I Suggest You Read CAIPNJ

CAIPNJ.ORG exposes these cretin who use illegal companies and file illegal motions against consumers. This industry is filled with nothing but rejects and criminals!

Based on what I read on the consumerist site, this is a common experience. I believe the best way to deal with it is to send a letter stating you are not that person and do not owe this debt. If the company keeps pestering you, you can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

AMEN to you CAIPNJ It's about time with Pressler and Pressler

After being harrassed by Pressler and Pressler Collection Agency and taken to court for $600.00 from a 2003 charge-off, and receiving a 25 page document reviewing every legal case in the State pertaining to these types of debts, I decided to research Pressler and Pressler. Low and Behold I find dozens of websites and Video's.... I applaud CAIPNJ and the people of New Jersey for taking a stand against these BRUTE FORCE TACTICS....I myself have been out of work for 5 years due to Multiple Sclerosis, and other heath issues....Pressler could care less about my attempts to pay this debt, (which I did offer and it was refused recently) Instead, they would rather drag me into court to attempt to collect $700.00 more on the debt than what is owed. I have also been "Brutalized" by the collection tactics in this state....my circumstances would not allow me to work and a disability claim is pending...does Pressler care???? Instead.....drag the homeless...the disabled...the blind....into court....threaten us with taking what little dignity we have left to begin with?? Amazing.Pressler But ya know what??...I love my State....I left for 3 years and came back...because I love my State...but the brutality must end. Forge on CAIPNJ...I will think of you in court with Pressler any day now......and I will pay them....hoping that the next person does not suffer as so many others do as a result of your actions CAIPNJ!!!! Keep up the good work...
